Better to find a picture of a tanned person and use a color picker and save the color. Then you have a good color that has the right tone. You never need to guess at colors in photoshop, you can select color that is just right for the job. Same goes for skin, hair, lips etc.

press W (quick selection tool)

select the skin (only what you want to change)

(you can also use this tutorial for makeup, paint someones lips and set it to color overlay or whatever you like)

@Neylonx Well, it's more desired in our culture's aesthetic preference. In some cultures and eras in human history, like back in the Middle Ages and in ancient Japan, the paleness was/is synonymous with beauty. Some people look better with a tan, but not all.

@SuperGamer87 yeh but that was also for a reason. being pale in those times meant you weren't spending all day out in the fields, so it meant you were rich.

nowadays, being pale means you dont go outside, either because you have a crap job and work nights, or have no social life.

theres no point saying that it didnt look good 500 years ago, because we live in the present.

i agree with you though, those orange girls look ridiculous.

its all cultural, rich cultures (mostly western) like slim, naturally tanned people. because it shows they are healthy. 3rd world countires prefer plumper, paler people because it shows they can afford food and not work out in the fields every day.
