do you realize that almost all of todays popular music has no substance or meaning? a lot of music is produced not by the artist(s), but by someone else thats creating less interesting music, in exchange for targeting a larger audience. The less mainstream a song is, generally the more specific of an audience it targets, which means it is a much more powerful song for that specific audience, which in turn makes it a better song if you're a part of that smaller audience.
