  • @walkabout09 I know that's how construction works, however, when some builders get paid too far in advance they can lose focus and work doesn't get done.

It's as if the government just found the myki contractor in the yellow pages, was there a tendering process? The future of that company should have been tied to delivering what they said they would - fail to deliver and be sued out of existance!

Read the above comments on this form, than you'll know more, that guy you commented isn't from Melbourne, he is trying to make it look like labor i shit, because he knows that if labor get voted back in, Melbourne will take over Sydney much faster!

  • @ashleybrient *facepalm* he's right, labor is shit, you can't expect to go HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars over budget and not be called shit.

  • @iamnotascientist

Every Government in the world goes over budget, Melbourne however have only had 2 in the past 10 years, Sydney has gone over budget more than 38 times in the past 10 years, it's life, also, what would it matter to you if something went over budget? most of the money is coming from the Commonwealth anyway, not the State, and it's not because of the Government is why Myki has errors! there are over 980 codes built in, on Myki, all they needed to do is rewrite the codes for Myki!

  • @ashleybrient

Before Labor took over in 2000, the Nationals had around 44 projects over budget, of around 6.3 billion dollars over budget, that included Sports projects, the nationals didn't even spend money on public transport, Melbourne never got a new train or tram until labor took over, nor a redeveloped train station, which complies with the Disability ACT!, Labor funded for it all,

  • @iamnotascientist

All the liberal party has ever done is rip up train tracks and sleepers,

The liberal party closed 6 country railway lines including Mildura, and the labor party has a plan to reopen all them lines, in stages,

And you know something, when the liberal party were in Government, they never upgraded train track sleepers at all, the labor Government is upgrading sleepers and level crossings, they have even separated some train lines from road and removed the level crossing!

  • @walkabout09 So myki has only cost us 1 billion dollars more than the second highest costing ticketing system... What's the arrangement behind myki, the contracted group has endless credit and no obligation to deliver the product? Can't a contract provide for payment to the contracted party for work that has actually been done, and if the work were to fall behind schedule we would be compensated, or if it went over budget the company would cover the excess? Am I making too much sense?

  • @iamnotascientist

Don't believe anything this user "walkabout09" says, he is from Sydney and he knows that if labor stays in, Melbourne will overtake Sydney much faster, it's because of the labor Government that, as of May 2010, Melbourne will have a new public bike hire system with 50 bike stations, 600 bikes and 24 hour access, the labor Government also complete the regional fast rail project, they ordered 50 more trams, 100 more trains and 50 more V/Line trains!

  • @iamnotascientist

Also, Myki wasn't 1 billion over budget, it is only 250 million over budget, in total they funded 1.3 billion, which was to run Myki for 10 years, and to run MetCard until 2011,

Another thing, myki will be fully operational by this year, the system has already started working fine on buses and trams, as we have detected,

The labor Government also funded to extend the watergardens line to Sunbury, and the line from epping to south, which both started this year!

  • @walkabout09

Myki isn't over budget, they funded for the operation for 15 years, plus myki devices, and to run MetCard until 2012, they funded at once,

  • 100 year old tracks lol, should our transport system be getting a letter from the Queen?

  • terry mulder a man who is all talk and no action victorias worst MP by far

  • The victorian transport minister makes a good point, they have a plan to replace track, where as the opposition are just likely to rip up the tracks and build a freeway or another footy stadium

  • @mildminotaur

i think they would, the Labor Government has done more, like, The Victorian Transport Plan, the Health Plan and the Schools plan, and at the end of 2010, if labor gets voted out, the opposition wont go ahead with the plans!
