Can we please end the argument of Radiohead v. Muse? Radiohead came before Muse, releasing 3 studio albums (Pablo Honey, The Bends, and OK Computer) before Muse's debut album. Thus, RH is a precursor to Muse, and it can be assumed that RH was either a direct or indirect influence on the band. Ever wonder why RH fans don't spam Muse videos with argumentative comments? It's because we're too busy listening to quality music.
@ClockStriking13 I'll rectify this now. Planet Telex is a great, hypnotic song whose lyrics let predate the brilliance of the texts in OK Computer (1997)!
@ClockStriking13 Right on. It's actually my favourite Radiohead track, which is a HUGE statement. I don't claim it to be the most inventive, impressive or incredible song they've ever written. But the first time I played The Bends album, and heard this opening song... wow. I just love the song, everything about it. I loved it the moment I heard that cool 'reverberating piano' riff throughout the song, and the guitar, and the lyrics - which are great. It's a seriously underrated RH song.
this song makes me want to sellotape the whole world back together again and put it back on the dinning room table (as if nothing ever happened), until one day we all actually agree that nothing happened, and someone accidentally knocks the world off the table again.
@wackyman11 Because music - especially Radiohead's - is extremely subjective. I can honestly say there's no wrong way to rank Radiohead albums. OK Computer is my personal favourite, but it's ridiculous to not accept that someone just maybe doesn't think it's the best one. Hell, if someone put Pablo Honey or The King Of Limbs above OK Computer, I can't say I'd fully agree with them, but when you have a band as flawless as Radiohead, shit like that happens.
@RazrHack this is true, and that was a stupid post, but the King of Limbs as best album, no fan thinks that lol. Although Ok Computer changed alternative music forever, in my opinion of course
@wackyman11 Again, there is no wrong way to rank Radiohead albums. I personally think Radiohead have literally done no wrong, including King of Limbs, and I'm sure there is the odd fan that thinks King of Limbs is the best Radiohead album. It happens.
@RazrHack man please don't compare Pablo Honey with TKOL, there's a whole career in between, the musicality in TKOL is amazing, and it's philosophy is in another lever.
@etejuanete3 At what point did I ever compare any two Radiohead albums? I used those two as examples because I seem to find that most people - including myself - rank them at the bottom of "Radiohead albums - best to worst" style lists.
@RazrHack well, maybe if you had told me that 6 months ago, but I don't think most fans rank TKOL as worst any longer. a lot of people started loving it after the live versions... including myself. so sad if you still don't like it.
@etejuanete3 Wow, everything I say keeps going in one ear and out the other with you. By me saying that there's no wrong way to rank Radiohead's albums, wouldn't that imply that I love all of them? One of them had to be the "worst" per se, don't you agree?
@RazrHack man in you comment you said "I seem to find that most pople rank them at the bottom" and well, maybe you do, and some fans used to think that way too, but they changed their mind. If I asked someone for his/her personal list 9 months ago, TKOL might have been at the bottom along with PH, but most of those fans have now a deeper appreciation of it NOW. of course there has to be a "worst" in the list, but I don't think they have one bad album. you can even find some great stuff in PH
@etejuanete3 Once AGAIN, in one ear and out the other. To clarify my views on Radiohead's music, RADIOHEAD HAVE NEVER RELEASED A BAD SONG. I love every single second of all 6 hours and 15 minutes of Radiohead's discography, and while there are certain albums and songs that are better than others, they are all amazing. And while people may have a higher appreciation for TKoL now, every single list I've seen that ranks Radiohead's albums places it in 6th or 7th place.
@RazrHack MAN CHILL OUT!!!! BREATH PLEASE!!!! I NEVER DISAGREED WITH YOU!!! AND STOP THE "in one ear and out the other" is starting to sicken me. now pay attention: I never said you didn't enjoy any album, I was telling you the perception I think people have of TKOL now. ANd if you look at my comment you'll find the words "of course there has to be a "worst" in the list" . OK?? WE'RE GOOD?? fine
@julianuknow I agree. OK Computer was good for its time, as was Kid A. But this one proved that they could rock out and still not sound like every other band that was out.
@rkobiggestfan7 Not many people will agree with us. I have heard it from most Radiohead fans that Ok Computer is superior (or even Kid A) but I honestly think The Bends captured them at their very best. It was raw yet mellow and the songs are just so good! It lacks the 'conceptual' appeal, but to me that is irrelevant, when The Bends came out, it was such an amazing, era-defining moment for me.
that awesome feeling when you want to link an awesome music from your epic favourite band (in my case Radiohead) but don't know which to pick because they are all equally eargasmic in their own way.
What an amazing opening track. It starts with strange rumbling and they cracks open to a delayed piano. I'm thinking "shit, this is ballsy." And then the unstable guitars comes in and the song explodes. After Pablo Honey, to open with this track it's clear that Radiohead is determined and focused. What a powerful metamorphosis. This ever-changing aspect would become the hallmark of every Radiohead effort from this point on.
@zachweidenbach You think the 'delayed piano' is ballsy...? I really love the way it sounds, all the instruments sounds great together in this song though.
@goverlingaite The Gallaghers seem to be obsessed with Radiohead... even if most of their comments are derogatory. Saying that, Noel has praised them highly a few times.
true, RH aren't a "party animal' band, and like every RH release, they were trying to murder their last album. One night came to record at RAK, but the cook called in sick, EMI sent 100 quid for restaurant, they drank lots of wine, got shitfaced, went back to do Killer Cars, but took the drums & made 3 separate loops, Jonny on piano, Ed rhythm & lead, TY laid on his back, snockered, called it Planet Xerox, suits pulled name: Telex! He was drunk, it's true...written &recorded in 6 hours...
@malibar1 Yep! in fact the band had just been for a curry and got pretty 'Pissed up' and they went back to the studio and thom was plastered whilst doing this actual take! Not bad for someone lagged up on booze!
