  • This is sad. Y100 was one of the first stations I ever really cared about and I actively attended Fez each year and one Feastival. I read about the blink-182 hiatus a few days before Y100 was taken away. The morning of the first Y100-less day, I remember thinking "blink is gone and now my Y100- my childhood is over." A bit dramatic, but I was really torn at the time. Thank you for this video!

  • it's absolute bullshit how y100 got yanked. did those people not see the turnout at each and every FEZ?! They already had a jazz station in Philly and 100.3 is now gangster rap, as if we needed YET ANOTHER rap station. Clear Channel can go fuck themselves because they single-handedly destroyed the scene in Philly for alternative music and made it hard for any decent alt-rock band to be discovered or heard. Plus, it opened the doors for a much more corporate radio 104.5, which is SO monotonous.

  • If somebody responds with that rumor that I'm not going to mention...then I'm gonna need diaper change...

  • (I don't have anything against Al Jureau but, he's just not my cup of tea...)

To anyone who is a fan of 100.3, The Beat...well, I'm not asking for any opinions on the station as it is today, the format, the DJs, etc; I'm talking about the way in which Y100 was forced off the air, why it was forced off the air, what were the reasons behind all of this, regardless of the format that the station changed to!

  • ...the time, and so the investors moved in & decided to take over. Specifically tho, they gave Y100 the broom handle treatment! And that "broom handle treatment" is the way that they did it, ...it stinks like a dead skunk!! From what I understand, Y100 employees showed to work one day and were handed their pink slips! (As in "Go upstairs, clean out your desks, and be out of the building within 30 minutes or you will be removed from the building by police!".... That's nice, isn't it?!!)

  • Excellent video!

What I want to know though is why did Y100 get shut down in the first place? I heard a rumor as to why but, I haven't heard, seen, or otherwise come across any clear evidence of that rumor; tho, I do believe it to be true. I am going to hold back on stating what that rumor is until I get more information...

The default response to why Y100 was forced off the air is that Philadelphia was the only major radio market in the country that didn't have a jazz radio station at ...
