  • Probably everybody knows this, but just in case...

    KCAS = Knots Calibrated Air Speed

    100 KCAS = 100 Nautical Miles Per Hr (air speed) = 185 KPH

  • she's beautiful. is she being marketed as a business jet or a "personal" jet? she looks like she'll be an uncomfortable ride in gusty winds or even light turbulence. i wonder what the winds were on landing...she reminded me of an rc plane (in skilled hands) on landing. she must be very light. would love to know more about its pitch, roll, and yaw stability in light turbulence. (fascinated by a/c design and aerodynamics.)

    According to the test pilot, it handles and rides about the same as a Mirage or Meridian.

  • It out performs the Citation Mustang in all categories except flight with one engine out. A Meridian turbo prop goes for about $2.2 million and this will certainly be more expensive, if it is priced close to a Mustang, the multi engine safety factor that the Mustang has will tip the scales in favor of Cessna. Engines sometimes ingest birds or blow up or suddenly quit, for $2.5+ million I expect to live through such a scenario.

    At least the Cirrus jet has a parachute.

  • @fbhjr68 That sounds good. I'm a fan of the FlightGear project, even though some of the models leave something to be desired due to their lack of development. Any idea when we might see your PiperJet available?

  • mmmmmm!!!!!!.....I would like to say it is a nice plane......but something is not good enought.......or in other words.....something it is wrong.......

  • Don't think it will be a big seller. Kinda noisy on take-off and I don't like the single engine. Also, the range is short.

  • I liked it pretty much. The elevated engine shielded by the fuselage makes this airplane a nice candidate for unprepared runways - truly interesting considering it's a jet. However, i think i lacks a thrust reverser to make landings shorter than the informed 2500 ft (~ 762 m).

  • That is a massive horz. stab. - why?

  • Better control at maximum operating altitude of 35000 ft.

  • A larger horizontal stabilizer is required when the distance from its aerodynamic center to the aircraft's CG is small. (Less of a moment arm)

  • @dave0mary Prolly because the engine is on the aft part of the plane, so naturally its counter weighting towards the front is just as high. Pitch stability has to be improved with a larger horz. stab.

  • @jwhoneycomb: A special note to all, knowedgable about aviation or not. THIS aircraft does not have a stabilator. It has a horizontal stabilizer and elevator(s).

  • 1.I am new to flying help me out can that single engine plane fly from NYC to LA on a full tank or do you have to stop and refuel

  • 1300nm of range with full tanks..with 800lbs max payload..

  • @MrWorldbefree-The maximum range was 1300 nm according to this video. I think the distance from NY to LA is more like 3000-4500 NM.

  • Actually, KLAX to KJFK (straight line / great circle) is 2151 nautical miles.

  • That is what I get for not double checking.

  • It was just pointed out to me that I was wrong. The direct route is 2165nm and great circle 2151nm

  • Its square windows reminds me of Commet aircraft. And ceiling of level 330 makes me to think - let us wait and see.

  • Thats a big ass engine. Looks like they went for the "this is as close as your gonna get unless you buy a viperjet to an F-16 experience" feel.

  • @superskullmaster-I think a BD-5J would probably give a closer feel and would be cheaper if that is what people wanted. I think this is for someone who wants a business jet but can't afford to deal with taking care of two engines. Since the wings aren't swept and since it has one engine, it would probably be easier for someone with time in a prop driven plane to transition into.

  • But the engine DC10 like configration realy hit me.The pushing line is too high es for a small A/C.

  • The designers at Piper Aviation have compensated for engine being mounted above the centerline with an automatic pitch/trim system that will keep the aircraft stable despite the addition or reduction in power to the engine. It's similar to the fly-by-wire setups they have in the F-117 Stealth Fighter.

  • This is going to be a monster hit for Piper for the next 25 years. Job well done.
