Talk all you want about the boston organization drafting/developing players but without the huge FA dollars they've spent they'd still have 0 WS titles since 1919. Would the Tribe have let Manny go if they had unlimited resources like the yanks and their JV squad in boston? A sure-fire HOF'r? Or CC, would the sachs have let CC walk (or trade him) in a contract year? And yes, there are some good players that came through the system, but those guys would be nothing w/o the big money guys.

Ellsbury, Pedroia, Youkilis, Papelbon, Delcarmenn, Buchholz, and Lester. They even got Ortiz as a bargian from the Twins at a time when he wasn't Big Papi and you can even count Beckett and Lowell because the got them by trading a prospect that they drafted. The only big free agent in the last 2 years is Daisuke.

I'm not. All I am saying is that the Red Sox are not far and ahead above every other team in payroll. Only ten million dollars divides the number 2 and ten teams. The Yankees are about 80 million above anybody else. It also just so happens that the Angels, White Sox, Cubs and Cards are only 2 million off 4th yet if they won the World Series people like you wouldn't blame them for spending money. You only use it as a crutch whenever the Sox are mentioned to attempt degrade what they have done.

Yes, there is a East Coast bias but they don't spend this crazy amount of money and buy all of their players. Ever since Epstein came he has changed that. Their players are home grown and they have a ROY candidate that they drafted, which would make two years in a row. Yet that wouldn't change anything, you're just as bad as a Yankess fan who says "Ya, they won but we have more Titles".

Actually, Phil Hughes has a good chance. I'm not a Yankees fan, but Hughes is a top notch pitching prospect, like Tim Lincecum for the Giants. If you look at Hughes's numbers, he strikes out about 3 times as many batters as he walks and averages close to a strikeout per inning pitched, also with a very respectable ERA.
