I spent the first 25 years of my life in Dublin. That would make me a native English speaker, I think. A few of my friends back home have called me 'a bleedin' German' having watched this video but I think that's mostly because I tried so damned hard to speak clearly when explaining what it was the video is about.

well, I'm german too, but I learned english very well. It has to be in the family, my uncle is professor for english studies. Also, I went 2 years to London as an exchange student. Schön, anything that promotes linguistic tolerance wins my approval. I have observed that native speaking English people are more tolerant of the flaws in non-English speakers than vice versa. Why is that?

First of all, thanks for commenting. I suppose that it is now very normal for English speakers to hear their language spoken 'imperfectly' but here in Germany, I would also have to say that people accept mistakes that I and the other non-natives all make. I'm not really sure about languages that are not so widespread though. It would be interesting to know what experience of this kind of thing you've had!
