  • er muss auch pfeifen! ;)

  • Your German sounds really good!! Nice.

  • The thing about songs is that people can learn them nearly perfectly.

I was listening to a foreigner in Beijing.

Her Chinese was quite noticeably foreign,

    Well, OK, Bad

But when she started singing the Chinese songs she had learned,

    I could detect no accent.

I think this is true almost categorically.

  • I'm not able to hear any sign of an accent, rather good! :)

you're just rolling Rs (any plans on being a pirate?) and ck instead of ch (sprickt, spricht).

    very well! :)

  • @Rosty89 That's a true sign of his hidden franconian heritage. Everrybody in Frranconia rrolls his oder herr R. ;)

  • I spent the first 25 years of my life in Dublin. That would make me a native English speaker, I think. A few of my friends back home have called me 'a bleedin' German' having watched this video but I think that's mostly because I tried so damned hard to speak clearly when explaining what it was the video is about.

  • Sehr gut, fast perfekt gesungen :-)

  • Fast. Danke ;o)

  • This is a really good idea! I wish people would do this for all languages, with subs!!

  • i love this video, a very good idea and a great voice :)

  • well, I'm german too, but I learned english very well. It has to be in the family, my uncle is professor for english studies. Also, I went 2 years to London as an exchange student. But your German, DardisMusic, is excellent. To speak German on this high level, it appreciates a couple of visits in Germany, right?

  • im german too ...but your german is so good you must have been in germany havent you?=)

  • I've lived in Nürnberg for over 7 years now but my German is very far from perfect. Thanks for watching.

  • even the german of some germans is far from perfect ;)

  • Wow, I'd love to have a translation... :-)

  • wow das is super!

  • haha ^^ so funny how u roll the r, its such a german cliché :P im german btw and gj by you sir

  • woww this was a good video blogg...interesting i think if you dont mind i would like to take this challenge further with some of the people i know and subbed to and would like to challenge them as well

  • That would be great!

  • i am german and i must say, i understood about 95% of what you said ;) just your face expresseion doesn't look like it's enjoying this singing too much :D

  • Concentrating too hard perhaps :o)

  • Nice job, that song brings back some good childhood memories :-) Your pronounciation is pretty good, try not rolling the r though ;-)

  • I live in Franconia where rolling the r is pretty common practice. Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • Amazing! :-)

  • :o)

  • Realy good singing :) Well done!

  • Your German is pretty good! You sing welll too. Id like to hear you sing in Dutch anyways, I am Dutch and I promise I won't die laughing. :)

Great vid and a wonderful initiative, If I could sing even remotely bordering to acceptable, I would undoubtedly respond to your challenge. But you sing well and I`m now curious how your accent would turn out if you sang in Dutch, I wonder if the similarity between Dutch and German makes you sing more in a Dutch than English accent.

  • dein performance fand ich echt spitzenmaessig!!! hast bestimmt 'ne deutsche oma oder so:P

  • pretty good ! you should learn german - your pronunciation is like...wow ;)

  • :D dude you did a great job..maybe sometimes i dont understand your words, but i love that!:)

  • 很好听啊

  • :D i had to laugh out loud when you rolled the german 'r'! Awesome job!

  • Well done! That was a way better german than ive heard by some of my classmates and we gotta learn that stuff since .. ever!

  • Vielen Dank ganz grosses Kino!

  • This is great idea! I love it!

  • hehe extra!

  • There are just some little passages where you pronounce the 'r' a little bit strange but it's possible that in your original song it's also pronounced like that.

    So, good work ;)

  • wow.

    Nich schlecht!

  • Danke!

  • sehr schön!

  • :o)

  • "Prize"! Yes, a prize would be nice. What do you have in mind? How many entries can each person make (I have another couple of Chinese songs knocking about, and I know Chris3443 has about 34 or even 43). Time limit for entries? Who have you in mind for the judging panel? What about Lee Jung Hyun 李貞賢? She's gorgeous! 選擇公孫海!加油!

  • No prizes now unfortunately! Thanks for posting a video response! Much much appreciated!

  • brillian. nice work. had a good laugh and fun. do more of the stuff...please!!!!

  • Thanks - I really should get around to doing more stuff! Thanks for watching!

  • gefaellt mir!

  • Naja - nicht so einfach. Hast du einen Vorschlag?

  • I do have a recommendation. I think you could do a wonderful version of the old german song " Muss I denn ". The lyrics are simple ( i think! ;) accompanied with your musical interpretation on the guitar... well i'd like to hear it anyway!! cheers and let me know if you do it!! :)

  • what a cute song! i want to video respond, i hope i am not too chicken to do it!

  • Excellent idea! You're absolutely right and although I don't speak any German, I'm very impressed by your song! I've lived in France for ages and I'm very shy about singing in French.

  • Thanks a lot for watching & commenting. I've been 6 years in this land - that's how long it took me to find the courage!

Sing in French for me and .. I don't know ... chocolate? CDs?

  • This is brilliant Kevin. Fair play to you. We have seen alot of videos of people singing in English who are not Native English speakers also and we too are very impressed. Well done!!

You did a great job on this song although we don't know a word of German!

  • Hard enough that I made a couple of mistakes anyway ;o) - thanks for watching & commenting!

  • hi, there, norm from medicinesocks here. i plan to post songs i can sing in spanish and ancient hindi soon. a great idea you have here! i'll also post songs i've written partly in english and partly another language. here's an unrelated question maybe you can help me with: Do you know the song "St. Brendan's Fair Isle"? is it traditional? or written by Jimmy Driftwood? and how old is it?

  • First of all, any video responses would be faaaaaaantastic - you're an ambitious sort - that much is clear :o)

About St. Brendan's Fair Isle, I have to admit that I am not familiar with it, although the name does sound 'traditional' - I will do some research and if I find anything, I'll be in touch!

  • wow, ancient Hindi?? That sounds awesome. I'll be checking back to see it, be sure to post.

  • Wow, brilliant idea and you sing German wonderfully! :) I'll spread the word to my friends!! And watch every one elses video's too!! Made me smile!

  • My my! Thanks wonderful Kathaleen - thanks for the support! Your kind words have made me smile too! Thanks again (and looking forward to more videos sister!) :o)

  • Great idea! I've just checked out LeeshaHarvey

singing in Spanish and she sounds like a Spanish speaker, I'm still impressed! And I am a native Spanish speaker.

Thanks stiophain for sharing this video!

    Bruno

  • Thanks for watching Bruno! I don't think I could sing at all as convincingly as Leesha did (and I lived in Spain for two years). And thanks again to Stiophain for his support!

  • Very talented Kevin! Enjoyed it as usual. :-)

  • Thanks a million my friend. I haven't been on HNA? very much of late. Just .... maybe I've had enough! A 6 point gap should be enough though (hopefully).

    Thanks for watching!

  • hmmm... pilsener urquell :-) and a cool idea. and pretty funny german. excellent!

  • Wonderful Czech! :o)

    Thanks for the kind words!

  • wuhu Augsburger Puppenkiste ^^ Respekt!

  • Vielen Dank!

  • i love it, thanks steve

  • Thanks Steve!

  • back to visit this thoroughly delightful video. the song is marvelously funny even to a non-german speaker who can only manage to decipher one or two of the words here and there. what shines through clearly is your character, your goodheartedness, your inclusive sense of fun. thanks for being such a positive force, now i'm off to see what your channel's all about!

  • This is one of the nicest comments anyone has left on my channel, ever! Thank you so much!

  • great initiative, thanks stiophain for the notice!

  • My Dear friend Antonio wanted me to check this out! I dont understand it but it was fun to watch and you sounded wonderful!

  • Thanks - I feel more and more as though I am becoming (half) German now though! Thanks for watching!

  • good stuff,

  • Thanks Jesse!

  • Oo! This was a fun song, it sounded so. . .buuut---I only caught a few words...can you translate?

  • Ohhhhh ... I'll send you a copy of the original. It's from a German cartoon (and it's wonderful!) and it's basically a description of an island (with two mountains!)

  • Haha! I was thinking about doing a little kids German song... but it is like 5 lines long. And I can't sing. haha

  • That would be great! And what do you mean, you can't sing? :o)

  • I mean I sound horrible! haha

  • Surely you should let others be the judge of that ;o)

  • Ha...well we will see. I don't think I have the guts/balls/whatever organ you choose to try and sing in front of anyone.

  • *****

  • Thanks Albert!

  • Kevin, this is such a wonderful idea! Really enjoyed your video and am now off to watch the video responses. You're offering an opportunity for some real fun here... :)

  • Thank you as always Suze! I hope you also enjoyed the video responses as much as I did!

  • Cool idea.... and very entertaining :-)

  • Hey, thanks a lot. You are again one of these people I have so much respect for - but then, your English is so good, I am not sure if you maybe you aren't a native too! Whatever. Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • Very nice! Greetings from Berlin, Germany! :-)

  • Danke!

  • What an awesome idea. I'll get back with you.

  • That would be wonderful Les!

  • Hi, I tried singing Geile Zeit by Juli a while ago so I thought I would add it to your responses :)

  • Great!

  • Who's above this shit? :o)

I was once #2 in lots of different categories and some guy singing the blues kept me off top spot!

  • My girlfriend says "Der hat echt ne schöne Stimme" Do I have to get jealous???

  • LOL. I am pretty sure she has heard you singing by now (on occasion) so you don't have to worry. You don't see me showing your videos to women!

  • Thank you.

This song will now be stuck in my head for at least 48 hours.

    Thank you.

    LOL

Great job though! You picked our national anthem! nice ; )

  • hehe - I have spent the day watching Jim Knopf over and over again! I think I will have to invest in the DVD!

  • Schön, anything that promotes linguistic tolerance wins my approval. I have observed that native speaking English people are more tolerant of the flaws in non-English speakers than vice versa. Why is that?

  • First of all, thanks for commenting. I suppose that it is now very normal for English speakers to hear their language spoken 'imperfectly' but here in Germany, I would also have to say that people accept mistakes that I and the other non-natives all make. I'm not really sure about languages that are not so widespread though. It would be interesting to know what experience of this kind of thing you've had!

    And thanks again for watching!

  • :D I always love singing in different languages

    great idea of this video!

by the way, your German sounds nice :)

    cheerssss

    Kim

  • geez I think I just made a ridiculous joke.

na klar du kommst aus DE!

    lol

  • LOL. Thanks for the comments and for watching!

  • Beautiful idea.

  • Thanks! The responses I have received so far make it all the more so!

Thanks for taking the time to watch & comment!

  • ♥ i can't sing well, but i'll share!

  • ♡ Thanks sooooooo much Mariam!

  • LMDAA

Man, I remember you telling me that you had to sing this in the Irish Castle. Excellent idea, my friend, luv' it

    Kudos for the idea

Kudos for the song (I'm a huge fan of the Augsburger Puppenkiste in case I haven't told you)

    Kudos for the Franconian "etzala"

Kudos for the voiced "s" at the beginning of words (e.g. sollte)

Kudos for the excellent Umlaut "Ö"

    Another free beer for you!

  • I would settle for a few glasses of red wine too! But so many kudos in one day might make my head swell a bit - thanks Antonio!

  • leberkas, hihihuhuhahaaaa!!

    danke für den lachkrampf, kevin!

  • I will take this as a compliment :o) Thanks a million for watching and smiling with me!

  • Funny song & great idea!

  • Not sure what the German song was about, but I enjoyed it nevertheless!

  • It's basically about an island with two mountains and all you can find there. A telephone, a shop and a photography place!

And thanks again for responding with your wonderful Chinese video Chris!

  • This is such a cool idea, Kevin! I shall now start searching through my collection for a song to do. Since I don't speak any other language, I'm sure I'll make a total mess of it! :)

  • *holds his breath in nervous anticipation*

  • Nice one man, you have no boundaries, great idea.
