Too many cooks spoil the broth, too many musicians spoil the song. Keith Richard is just playing random notes that have little to do with the emotion of the song, the addition of Ziggy Marley is pointless. It annoys me when Ziggy is seemingly rolled out as a Bob replacement; he is an entirely separate human being and musician who should be judged on his individual merits rather than a kudos carrier of his father's acheivements
i ve first heard this song on the radio when bono dedicated this to all who work for and live on amnesty international on new years day, dublin in 1990. it was nearly to the ending, and the song applied to the atmosphere there, was a great perfomance, influenced my life
Hello! I've been a U2-fan since 1986, and this is my all time favourite song.I agree, this song is about the love of God Almighty! This song is BEAUTIFUL!
What I love about songs in general is that it can be interpreted in so many ways. Wether these lyrics are about self-love, romantic love, the love of God, etc., it can be whatever makes sense to you or how it makes you feel. Beautiful lyrics. :)
Given Bono's devout Catholic faith, I don't think this song is about self-love at all, but the love of God. That's the message of the Son, whose hill he speaks of in the song. The Christian message is that He is our rescuer because we are unable to rescue ourselves. So I don't a think a devoted Catholic would write that we save ourselves.
U2's "B" sides are usually more amazing! Love is Blindness, is likely one of their most underappreciated songs... This song reminds me of Hymns that we used to sing in our little shack of a church... May Taureans truly shine! Keep your eyes open for Robert Pattinson, another young May Taurean that just totally knocked me off my feet... Born on Stevie Wonder's birthday, and just flat out astounding as a vocalist! Screw Edward Cullen... The man can sing...
@vickiksandoval Love is blindness is a great song to me too!! the best in this cd also Acrobat and Ultraviolet, and maybe Tryin to......unfortunately songs like M.Ways and One were the promos...
Awesome video, the song is a masterpiese and bono turns it into a religious experience. his harp is wonderful. Would have like to see ziggy and the rest but I thank you for what you have shared here. It's magnificent. --Jan
Point Depot....if you can ever get ahold of it...I am a pretty big U2 fan, and have heard almost everything they ever recorded, and would say this was their hallmark concert. All of them were on their game. Phenomenal concert with all their great songs done, and to perfection, and with pretty awesome contributers. As a biased U2 fan- would put it as the greatest live show ever.
Beg to differ on this performance but this was the Smile Jamaica benefit concert at London's Dominion Theatre (16th October 1988). Was an awesome perfomance though. I have the whole thing on video somewhere and you can see me in the crowd at one point!!!!!
my words(snippet from "miracle drug" reflect on the recovering persons comments and inspire hope that the loved one in my life may also seek recovery.
Its important to remember that when we think of "love" in the content of a song like this, which is great by the way, although not one of Bono's best performances, one should think of self-love and not automaticaly of "romantic love" - of how one person can "rescue" us from our demons, sorrows, etc -- love of yourself-spiritual love - self respect - etc-- that's whats enduring, that's what cannot be taken away ,that's the love that will truly rescue you.
Agreed, love, understanding and acceptance of oneself is a powerful force. Love these days is often misconstrued, especially by Hollywood who seem to have turned love into a fairytale fantasy.
Or how we can rescue ourselves through admitting our imperfections and finding something else, or someone else to fill in the gaps of our imperfections. A marriage if you will of Buddhist and Christian religions. Still Haven't found what I'm looking for, pardon the pun, but I believe the answer exists somewhere in the void, b/t self, and unifying of self to another higher purpose, singular or plural.
@Spektator100 the love i hear here, is the love of Christ, rather than self love, i'drather call it selfless love, the love that supercedes our own needs, the love that holds the universe together, "grace" ....
@Spektator100 Yeah, we look for love from others or in others when we need to find it in ourselves, to love ourselves even for our flaws so you don't need to be dependent on others.
@Spektator100 That's a beautiful point of view. I think we can see something in this way, when we listen a song like "windows in the skies" too. "Love makes strange enemies, Makes love where love may please, Soul and its striptease, Hate brought to its knees", it's not a "romantic love"
I remember this concert. It was the Smile Jamaica concert at the Hammersmith Odeum I think. This was their last concert =after the long Rattle and Hum tour. That is Keith Richards. The whole song was once on YouTube. It is a wonderful rendition of a song that is exponentially better done live.
this song is written by bono and bob dylan!

I have always loved this song...as a recovering person I love the line:
I have Conquered my past
The future is here at last
I stand at the entrance to a new world
I can see
The ruins to the right of me
will soon have lost sight of me
love rescue me.
