Something I don't get about Mother games (excluding Mother 3) is why the villains always promise the main protaginst that they'll meet again one day yet they never do, I mean was it just the localization team editing the story to make them say that I mean for people who have read My comment in the Earthbound playthough this is what I mean, here is Geiuge promising Ninten that they'll meet again but they don't and *spoilers for Earthbound but I mean who hasn't played it by now* 2bcont.*
*anyways as I said Earthbound spoilers but if you haven't played it yet you really should because there really should be no need for spoiler warnings for a game that came out that long ago* Geiuge promises Ninten they'll meet again yet they don't and Pokey does the same thing with Ness in Earthbound saying they'll meet again but the two never do, the only explanation I can come up with is the translators added these promises in because why make them say these things if *2cont.*
because why make them say these things if they weren't going to happen? Because that would really mislead players who went to play the sequel to the game they played.
Giegue is the alien that was raised by George and Maria 80 years ago from the time this battle takes place. Like Giegue said, George got plans that were vital to his race of people (the aliens) and ran with them. Ninten is his great grandson that Giegue is after now. That song is what Maria sang to Giegue all the time when they were raising them as a family, and that song fills Giegue with remorse and the memories of Maria, making it all the harder to kill Ninten.
I'm a little confused as to when George and Maria ever raised Giegue. Did Maria stay behind or something? 'cause they say in the intro that she never came back while George did, right?
the ending to this game at all who is Giegue and why is he here? what happened to Ninten, Ana and Loid? Are they related to Ness,Palua.Jef and Poo? Why doesn't Giegue like that song?
Well, later on in earthbound, Giegue or Giygas had become so full of hatred and power that his entire being destroyed itself along with his own mind becoming brainless and an undefined existance (Thus his appearence and lack of incoherent talking). He pretty much lost everything about himself and became the very envelopment of evil itself.

This is my favorite one of them all. Problem is, I just dont like Earthbound that much (except for the final battles) because the enemies and some of the music is cartoony.
Theory has it that Giegue/Giygas is susceptible to human emotion - it can actually hurt him physically. Also, singing re-established the loving memories of his "mother", Maria. He couldn't bring himself to do anything to humanity after that.
Apparently he got defeated by the bee people and banished to his own subconscious. He freed himself by destroying all good left in him, and became pure evil power. His power was so great, it destroyed his mind and body, making him that spooky formless wisp you see in EB.
I imagine if I played this as a child that song would be stuck in my head much like the eight melodies of earthbound are. I suppose in a way they are related...
i meant mother 3

I always thought that Ninten & his friends singing drove Giegue/Giygas insane and it caused him to become nothing but pure evil in Earthbound.
eiremoonblossom 3 years ago
The singing drove him away from Earth.
His mass accumulation of power caused the Giygas form.
From what I understand.
SwordfighterRed 3 years ago 3
Giegue is ACTUALLY Giygas, Name is different, but he returns.

I wonder why he looks so different in EB when compared to his NES EB look...

That's where Giygas came from in the NES version. Now I know the answer.
Linkz1485 4 years ago
That's why, when you play MOTHER 2 (NOT Earthbound, Japanese Counterpart), it says "Gyiyg strikes back". In Japanese, Giegue/Giygas' name is "Gyiyg".
