Where the abuse has been particularly awful the disease becomes a chronic handicap and will usually last into old age. A tiny few have been known to contract the disease by contamination. But only where the disease is raging out of control. I can think of no way that a healthy person can possibly contract this disease of their own volition. It is quite unthinkable.
