This is an excellent training video my friend. I had planned to use all my switches as manual throws because I was afraid I couldn't wire them correctly? With this video right here, I'm confident now I can do it without problems. Thanks for sharing this. Are you by any chance a teacher or instructor by trade?

Wow very well explained and esigned.Your setup is gonna be awsomewhen your finished. With this method of atlas switching and atlas relays can you still have autoroute? Or only with tortoise and hare/wabbit?
Another great video. I'm curious though, why not use the atlas under the table switch machines? They are pretty low profile. Not as user friendly perhaps?
I removed all of the Atlas switch machines and went with Tortoise and remote activators. See followup videos. The atlas under the table switch machines do not have enough hold power. The rod flexes.
Great video again i would put them in just for the lights. i do not know if it means anything and you did not mention it in your video but they do make the Circuitron Remote Tortoise Mount. just thought i would throw that out there
No Problem and thanks for the compliment. I believe that a hobby is to be shared by all those that partake in it. I do not claim to know it all but I like to share what I know and works for me in hopes that others get the same satisfaction that I get from this hobby. Jim. G.
@flymanjg My father and I are starting a fairly large layout ,and I am trying to gather all the tips and Info as possible. I am interested in seeing your complete library of how to videos. Can we talk via E-mail .....jaykroye@yahoo.com
thanks - your like a teacher that I want to learn from,I cAnnot read schematics , im a hands on guy , so watching and listening tentatively, thanks, JOE
So if I am understanding correctly after watching these, these relays simply revers polarity to accessories such as the frog or a signal? I am using Atlas switch machines and would love to use signals on my layout- do you have any you could show in action or which ones you use for the Atlas setup? Awesome videos and thanks for posting all this up! Jack
Jr, I plan to do a signal hook up to one of the Atlas relays. When I get to that stage you will see it on a video. It's simple to hook up. If you send me your E-mail address I will send you a PDF File that you can look at. The PDF file is for hooking up signals to the tortoise but it is the same principal with the atlas. you have two wire on one side and a common on the other. Once you see the schematic you will understand.
Al, there is a clearance problem with the intermodal yard and the track's below it.
As for the switches, I've tried the under the table switch machines but it seams that with the thichness of my subroadbed and the cork roadbed the pin on the switch machine flex's to much and the points do not rest up against the outside rails with enough pressure. The aove the table switches that I am using in that area are small enough and do not distract that much but do work good.
I like how tidy you kept the wiring--are you an electrician?

Hoffman switch machines may be the answer to space between your intermodal yard and tracks below it.

Only with the Tortoise and hare combo. I removed all of the Atlas switchmachine/relays and went with %100% Tortoise.

That CSX train sounds awesome! who makes it and which sound board do you have in it?
swanman1975 2 years ago
It is the New CSX Athearn Genesis SD45-2. It comes with the tsunami sound decoder.

how come you are using snap switches instead of tortise machines. another is why not under the table switches by atlas rather than over the top.
