  • THIS LONG LIVE VERSION HAS BEEN STUCK IN MY HEAD FOR AT LEAST A WEEK NOW!!!!! THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONGS EVER WRITTEN. Whenever I get frustrated with life, I just get on my computer and let this song take me far away to another galaxy. I'm also a huge Todd Rundgren fan and you can definitely hear his influence in there. Does anyone know if this live version was ever put on a cd?

  • This song is like a dream.

  • This song made me believe there is a heaven....I was 13 in 76', living in a very horrid situation...my only safe place was my music...I would listen to this again and again in the dark at night...could close my eyes, especially at the end of the song and imagine I was floating through the stars towards Heaven...I swear I could see the sparkles of stars and it filled me with a warmth and hope. My life turned out wonderful...and I thank Hall and Oates for the solace thier music gave me. xo Joy

  • I can remember going round to my best mate's (Billy - RIP) in 1976 and he was playing this fantastic album 'Bigger than both of us' by Hall & Oates and being immediately addicted to their music. We even managed to see them in the 'Playhouse Theatre' in Edinburgh in 1980(?) or thereabouts. Wherever you are, Bill, thanks mate !!

  • brings back memories of the performances at "The Bottom Line" in NYC during the early seventies...great shows...

  • Eddy Zyne on drums

  • AWESOME!!! Thanks so much for posting this!!!

  • great performers those two....I think is Jeff Porcaro on the drums....IMO this and "You'll never learn" are great songs from that album...

  • One person with such a great voice, composer and writer, plays numerous instuments, handsome, great hair, rich and respected plus many amazing songs over 40 years of music.. Daryl wasn't bad either, lol

  • Wow! This is an absolute Hall & Oates favorite for me. I never thought I'd see a performance of this. Thanks so much for posting it, ITFC!

  • This is from the second year we did MusikLaden in Germany. For some reason when they made the DVD of our two performances on that show in 1976 & 1977, they chose songs from both years and mixed them up but did not include this song. So even though your guess was that it was from Old Grey Whistle Test, which we did with this same band, I am so glad that you uploaded this clip since I do not have it and it's a real treat to watch all the way through.

  • @ezyne my respect to you Sir this performance is off the chain and this is one of my favorite Songs from the Bigger than Both of Us album no words I can use to describe this one my best to you and your family

  • Seen them do this so many times, my fav H and O tracks by a mile

  • is that kasim on bass?

  • @juggalomom20814 I don't think so at all, because this must have been around 1975. I think it's before he even met Todd. Could be wrong though.

  • @juggalomom20814 That's Stephen Dees.

  • Their best track ever

  • @therodski1 I think they're mostly ALL their best track ever Lol

  • Love this video!!!! The song is absolutely breathtaking!!! Cheers to the boys, you are the BEST!!! Keep on doin' what you do best!!!!....Love you guys!!! Thanks for sharing this video, I have the DVD of this concert, but not this song...bummer!!!

  • RIP T-Bone ...you're a huge reason why I love Hall and Oates since my childhood....you were always just as important and I know Hall and Oates would agree

Thank You for sharing your gifts with the world

  • Class. Any chance of a posting of 'London, Luck and Love' from 'Bigger Than Both Of Us' please???

  • you really had to work those keyboards

back then, the beginning of the synth

era. The were really rocking back then.

  • This has always been one of my favourite songs from the first time I heard it on the Bigger Than Both Of Us album. I especially like the second part of the song, which is mostly instrumental. I just picture actually flying through space, with stars just shooting by, similar to a Star Trek or Blake 7 interlude. Very sci-fi ish.

  • I remember Daryl speaking during "LFDH." He was telling Chromeo that the music industry didn't know what to do with them.(not a direct quote). Of course they didn't. These guys don't fit any cetain category..they do it all..they're frickin brilliant! They're still packin the house in 2009.

Thanks for posting this,ITFC! It's wonderful!!

  • Many thanks to ITFC. What a blast listening to that! I heard a little "Zepp" ..a little "Todd R"..and just a dash of "Yes."

All in all..a very interesting time in our music. Everyone was influenced by everyone else, and having fun. That's what it was all about, right you guys?? :+)

  • One of my favorite H&O songs. Thought the gtr player might be Christopher Bond, since notes, tone and everything are spot on from the record. If it is Todd Sharp, hats off to him for nailing all that. Great video.

  • BTW, this is from Musikladen 1976

  • Just unbelievable!

How young and talented they were!

I've never expected I can see their WHOLE OATES age.

Daryl plays the piano so beautifully...

  • who is the lead guitarist? anyone know?

  • Todd Sharp

  • Amazing musicality. For some reason it seems to have a strong classical resonance. Perhaps that's not surprising to anyone. Just to me.

  • Check out the song song "Waterwheel" from the Whole Oats album or from The Philadelphia Years is reminiscent of Debussy and somewhat of Sibelius, IMHO.

  • @SuddenSparkles Listen to their song "Waterwheel". Very reminiscent of Frederick Delius' work.

  • I'm absolutely in love with this song. It's a shame how underrated it is....

  • I'm falling - for this song!

  • I never thought I'd get to see a live performance of this song.

    Thank you!!

  • Wow - I forgot about this song. I never saw it live. Thanks so much for posting it.

  • when i first heard this song many years ago, thought it was todd..how close the vocals were. and the music very todd influenced. but still clearly a daryl masterpiece.

  • This is lush. Thanks so much! Wonderful...

  • Thank you for finding this great old song!

  • Thank you for posting this! It's my favourite Hall & Oates song!!!

  • OMG This is my favorite Hall and Oates song too. I can't beleive there is actually a video of them performing it back then.

  • Wow! So glad that you did this, I just love this song!

  • Hall & Oates always work well with metal, and this one is solid gold.

  • 70's Hall and Oates is in my top 5 of all time...

and this video is the best performance yet!!!!

Todd Sharp is on fire in this clip!!!!!

    amazing!!!

  • >>Todd Sharp is on fire in this clip!!!!!

Yes ... if "on fire" means aimless, cliched 70s guitar noodling. (-: Sorry mate, I can't second that.

  • My all time favorite H & O song too ... and your timing for posting this video is beyond coincidence...

  • Who are the cute, talented band member? bass, Dr, another g?

  • stephen dees.. better known as slugger blue

he co wrote the song Kerry on Bigger than both of us

he currently plays in a band called Bandees

  • ooh the drummer is eddie zyne... he plays with foghat now.. and the guitar player is a 20 year old Todd(zilla) Sharp (who went on to play with Rod Stewart)

  • my fav Hall and Oates song ever.thanx.

  • Daryl is so hot when he's looking down playing the electric piano looking so cute & adorable!!!!!!!! I love Daryl Hall!!!!!!!

  • Thank you for this!! yes its rare to see footage from this period. Daryl's voice is amazing.
