ok ok the big one first... TUNING. second, you can hardly hear the brass, probably cause its NOT THERE. the woodwind needs to back off a little, and i know the start is forte fortissimo, but its not after that. just remeber, the more you follow the dynamics, the more dramatic the dynamics are. i dont mean to be rude but our highschool band can play it better.
im sorry... but to me.. Malaguena is a jazz band piece.... that is my opinion... and a high school or drum core should play this.. being honest... and my jazz band is also playing this...
i agree with shrekkmike! this song is ALLLL about dynamic control. thats how the woodwinds push the whole band when the percussion drops out. also.. TUNING??? and it should be going A LOT faster! thats MY feedback :)
The word is Spanish, there is no English version or alternate pronunciation. If you prefer to continue pronouncing it wrong, be my guest, however, know that it is indeed, wrong.
Needs a stronger entrance more brass sound, and some tuning. The bongos are not in time in the beginnining.Sax solo could use some more tounging work. But overall sounds pretty good.
The thing that you have to remember is that this is a middle school auditorium in NYC and it is not acoustically designed so the part about the stronger brass part has to do with the auditorium and the recording because this is NOT recorded on a real video camera.
I agree with pretty much everyone on the tuning thing...and whoever was on sax for the solo, your tonguing was messy. On the first 3 bars of the solo, move your fingers at the same time to avoid that. I like the style at measures 53 and 54. And near the end, with concert pitches D-E-D, it sounds very messy, clean it up. Very nice, except for the end, though.
At the very end, stay together!
My jazz band played this exact same arrangement. I had the sax solo--but I played it on clarinet.
true that, and u can tell thats niot a cord, its reay out of tune, + flutes should be sitting, only people who need to sdtand are trumpet, and trombone :p
wow. i hate to be mean, but that was really outta tune. that wasnt nearly fast enough either. maybe you guys should get better before tackling a song like that. thats a pretty hard song to play.
Hey great job guys! I'm in a beginning jazz band and we have a concert tomorrow and we're playing Malaguena. I'm playing piano. ^_^ Nontheless great job!
This is the short version isn't it? I was following in my Easy Jazz Classics book, and it doesn't follow. Probably different arrangemnt

seraphonwingsoflead is right. It's MalaGENya. gwenya is the wimpy way people who speak English and not Spanish say it.
