  • This is the funkiest closing theme of all time. Why they would ever change it to anything is beyond me. How could it be any better?

  • Anyone realize that Danny Epstein was the most AMAZING drummer? Peace.

  • this is my ringtone on my iphone. it defines me and my childhood! damn they dont make music like this anymore!!

  • SOMETHING WIT THE BUBBLE AND JUNK IN THE TRUNK

  • DON'T MESS WITH THE RITZ BITZ, WHEAT THINS, SALTINES, AND TRISCUITS

  • RIP Northern Calloway... What a sad end he had.

  • it's motherfucking nice to see a picture of a the late Northern Calloway smiling at you with the Sesame Street signs in his hands with still the still image constantly varying in kailedescope colors!

  • Gotta love those funky chimes.....takes me back to grade school! Thanks for uploading!

  • @bloggaloggs, @shydmples ... Not that it really matters, but is this something you guys have personal knowledge about? Only sources I've found is that he did, indeed, die in a psychiatric unit. Those sources could also be wrong, of course - but at least they have a New York Times article to back them up ... Google Northern Calloway.

  • @Clothosx Michael Davis' excellent book "Street Gang: The Complete History of Sesame Street", details Northern Calloway's struggles with his mental health. Very talented guy. Unfortunately, mental health issues are diffucult to diagnose/treat. Even more so at that time. Great contributor to SS.

  • this theme is BADASS!!! i am 32 and i feel like i am 4 years old grooving out!!!

  • I've been looking for this forever, and now you made an extended remix. My heart and brain exploded simultaneously. I cannot thank you enough!

  • Joe Raposo was the man!

  • This sound was a bit scary....but I still liked it because it had like a ethereal feel. ... like a "revelation after armaggedon feel."Yeah...my child hood was pretty disturbing. Couldnt wait for that day to come to end all the suffering. But thats just me.

Wow...even to this day it still makes me feel meladramatically...nauseous. :-/

  • till then smack one eye jack, hope one of his people's could hook him with a tri pack.

  • They Used This Closing Theme All The Way To The Early 1990's. Any Kool Music Whether It Was Television Themes Or Radio As A 4 Year Old Boy And As A 37 Year Old Man It Makes Me Dance I Had To Get Up And Grove To This Like I did in 1978 At Age 4.

  • moonwalking to this right now

  • PHAT!

  • I am a kid of the 1970s and that era ruled big time!!!

  • makes me wish that us kids from the eighties forever rocked

  • Sesame Street always had the illest music! I've been wanting to hear this for years!! I remember just sitting in front of the tube listening to this music and thinking Kermit, Cookie Monster, Grover, & everyone was jamming behind the blue screen and credits. Like the party was still going on Sesame Street. Haha! That's how funky this music was!

  • Sample.... worthy!!!

  • THIS IS THE ENDING THEME I GREW UP WITH!!! THANKS FOR THE POST!

  • Do you have this in full stereo? I can hear the vinyl being played here. I'd love to get my hands of the full length song in stereo.

  • Best music track to a kid's show!!!

  • One of the best end music ever

  • I never forgot this piece...it bummed me out, scared the crap out of me, and made me dance all at once... I hated seeing it because like many others have commented it meant another episode of SS was over, and I am pretty sure the bells were what scared me... I have never been able to find out who wrote or recorded this though.

  • I'm diggin' the extended beat. Nice!

  • jasonvoigt, i know what you mean I was creeped out by this too, sounded wicked evil and funky as hell.

  • "....suppose to be checking emails, all I got is messages from ass naked females. Kookies!!.."

  • MF DOOM!

  • @CFCCalum92 "Even the Oreo, no matter what the weather, always kept 'em, dipped in milk and stuck together."

This is why I love MF Doom. Kookies! Nice catch CFCCalum92

  • Now that I know that dude died, now the song just makes me think of Mr. Cooper. Memories...

  • @1212LeoSnake Hooper! LOL

  • R.I.P. David. The baddest skater on Sesame Street!

  • Should've kept this end theme. I looked at other ending themes and they don't hold a candle to this. I hope other generations of kids can enjoy what I did from back in the day

  • Should've kept this end theme. I looked at other ending themes and they don't hold a candle to this.

  • They got a better sales pitch than the Girl Scouts.

  • RIP DAVID.

  • groovy baby groovy!!

  • AWESOME! So who actually wrote/recorded this track back in the day? I need to know. Sounds like Sly or similar. I know the Pointer Sisters sang the Pinball Song. Can anyone help me with this??

  • @Yumoshrub What is the Pinball song?? Is it similar to this beat?

  • Do a search for "Pointer Sisters Pinball Song."

  • @Yumoshrub: Apparently this is the work of Joe Raposo, the show's music supevisor.

  • People who hate this are stupid...

  • This is so sample worthy!

  • @LadyofWar1980 MF Doom used this in his track Kookies.. You betta recognize.

  • @JLSPFOC I know but I didn't like how he used it. MF Doom is still dope nonetheless!

  • Sly and the family stone ....I think??? I was born in 77! love this riff! Thanks for the post robo : ) been looking for this song for a few years....really I have! LOL Jasonvoigt, GREAT comment! LMAO

  • my mother used to tell me and my sister we were bad people for liking terrible music like this. i still like it and i'm still a bad person.

  • I used to be creeped out by this song too! HAHAHAHAHA!! But in my case, it was the "wah-wah" bass followed by the wind section completely grave (at that time) for me, different to the traditionally upbeat children music. HAHAHAHA!

  • I've always loved the guitarist's taste on this track. I'd be delighted to find out it was Eric Gale, Stanley Turrentine or George Benson on the session. But just one thing: that's excessively looped. No self-respecting guitarist could have restrained himself to playing the exact same solo five times over. Gotta love the track, though! COOKIE!

  • HELP!

    WHO WROTE THIS TRACK!

i,m dancing around like a whiteboy on angel dust...........

  • @whitepowerboyz: Isn't that they way they all dance?

  • This theme brings back pleasant memories. :)

  • The 1970's closing theme score reminds me of David. Nice tribute to David/Northern Calloway.

  • I sampled this back in 1989 with the AKAI MPC 60.

yo def, so def, it's a DEF Jam.

  • quincy jones

  • Why can't that shot of Northern (David) holding the Sesame Street sign be on a t-shirt? I'd wear it all the time.

  • this is so funky, only an artist as great as doom could use this

  • i love this theme

  • I admit I used to be scared of this music because of the bells, minor key and not knowing what the hell funk was at age 2. Now I dig it because I LOVE funk and disco!

  • Give it up to em whoever invented the camera.

Never mind the gingerbread man or the Grandmas.

Shh! make sure she don't wake from her dream

or get caught with a handful of ccrreeaamm ffiilllleedd...

  • thats nasty, go wash your hands.

  • Sorry, the correct answer was "KOOKIES!".

  • we dont mess with the ritz bitz, wheat thins, saltines, or triscuits. only the chips ahoy with the double chocolate chunk...somethin with the bubble and the junk in the trunk.

only kookies here sir, call me famous anus

  • I think you mean Famous Amos lol

  • i subconsciously turned it into anus when i found out this song was about porn lol

  • It's not really about porn as it is just sex in general, though. I mean he mentions "slap[in] one-eyed jack" and the internet and shit but he also talks about real girls anyway ("and that's the last time I saw her.").

  • i think "and thats the last time he saw her" is just talkin about the sheer amount of porn on the internet lol.

Doom, stimulating the worlds interest in Literary Analysis classes

  • @izaks14 Jerry Saggs and Brian Knobbs are Nasty, because they are the NASTY BOYS!!

  • This song would be cool if it was covered my megadeth!

  • I'd love this as a ringtone!!

  • This song was the reason I learned to do the windmill. Thought that windmilling was the righteous thing to do when this song came on!

  • he doesnt look like dracula he looks like blacula

  • wish I can get this as a ringtone

  • Hah! I knew Doom sampled this! Took me forever to remember what it was!

  • This feels so good to my body to hear this and to remember the energy I used to have when hearing this!

  • DOOM

  • Man, I loved this back in the day. Hearing this is bringing back all kinds of memories. This was just waaay too funky!!!

  • That kid has cool sideburns!

  • I used always love this music!

  • I used to be creeped out by this song when I was little, only because they used the bells that sound like 'you're in hell'. Now this video's even creepy because David (who died in a mental hospital) is in this video and he's changing colors and he's got dracula teeth!

  • @jasonvoigt ha hahaha lololol lmbo!

  • dude really died in a mental hospital??

  • @jasonvoigt did he really?

  • @jasonvoigt u have a point there, dAvid does look like he's got fangs!!

  • @jasonvoigt Oh...don't say that about my David. That hurts. :(

  • @jasonvoigt What are u talking about?! To me its saying "Sunny Days" from the theme song. Its also the Sesame Street Remix. Oh and by the way, KOOKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @jasonvoigt Wow, guys what are you thinking???? Most of us that grew up in the 70s used to hear music like this around Christmas and on happy occasions. Creepy? Good grief!

  • @jasonvoigt You heard "you're in hell" from those bells as a kid? Twisted, man... :D

  • @Tardbot5000 yeah poor kid

  • @jasonvoigt why was he in a Mental Hospital for?

  • @angelgirl7473 when I watched this show as a little kid in the late 80s/early 90s I remember my mom breaking the news that David died in a mental hospital. I'm unsure what her sources were, If you google his name (Northern Holloway) you may find some sources on what he did to get in there. One site lists that he ran around naked and threatened little kids while going schizophrenic. Whether or not true, the folks behind Sesame Street swept the whole incident(s) under the rug.

  • @jasonvoigt His name was Northern CALLOWAY. He didn't die in a mental hospital. He had an episode of schizophrenia, or bi-polar, or something like that, and took some time out from Sesame Street for a while. After that he returned to SS without incident. He died of a totally unrelated illness (stomach cancer) many years later.

  • @jasonvoigt did he die in real life or in an episode of sesame street?

  • @davejago He died in real life in 1990 of stomach cancer.

  • @jasonvoigt LOL so true

  • KIIIICCCKKK ASSSSSS!!!

  • OOOOOOOOH YEAH!!!!

  • you rock. Thank you so much for this :D

  • watch this while high..take it from me ;)

  • This isn't a TRUE extended version. I think the music always went a lot longer than what you heard.

  • True... I only looped it.

  • mf doom used this on "mm food" kookies

  • MF DOOM is a beast!

  • It needs a James Brown lyric...."HUWH!"....

  • There IS a god.

James Brown has stopped spinning in his grave............

  • George Clinton couldn't have made this any funkier.

  • Finally,

I have found it. The music that Jehovah plays during Armageddon.

  • OMG I can't stop laughing whenever I read this.

  • lmAO...THATS SOME FUNNY SHIT OSHAN!! YEAH, WHILE THE MJUSIC PLAYS, YOU SEE THEM STANDING IN FRONT OF PEOPLES FRONT DOORS WITH WATCHTOWERS IN ONE HAND AND A SIGN IN THE OTHER SAYING "CHARLES TAZZ RUSSEL COMING SOON"..

  • Yep, the ultimate show's-over music.

  • Jehovah ROCKS!

    ....when he destroys worlds.......

    At least he is cool!

  • PERFECT ANALOGY!

Except I SERIOUSLY DOUBT that Armageddon

would or could EVER be this funky or even exciting!

    > Professor DLC

  • I used to dance around the room like a crazy man when this outro came on. The 80s ruled.

  • during the 1970's the Children's Television Network had the funk going som'n serious. Listen to the Short Circus' songs on the Eletcric Company also.

  • Can you dig it! As a fan of ABBA and all disco, I love this! This kind of reminds me of ABBA

  • Naw, this is the funk. ABBA couldn't funk with the chimes.

  • If anybody took this off of Youtube at any time, I'd cry!

  • ah, sounds from my very early childhood, I was pissed when they changed it, PBS made alot of changes in 1984... right when I started watching lol

  • They still used to play this at then end when I was little and that was in mid to late 80s

  • Yeah same with me too, I think they stopped it in like '87 or '88

  • I remember kids sliding down some humungous slide-like thing on little rugs or something when they played this. Anybody else remember that or am I just crazy?

  • I think I remember that!

  • That was the Canadian Sesame Street. Actually, as I recall, the main Sesame Street closing theme played over this video, as the Canadian credits rolled. Then this music followed with the funding credits.

  • I think it depended on your PBS market. I remember this into the 80s too at the end of Sesame Street in Detroit.

  • so is this what the song was really called?who actually wrote/played this song anybody know its has a slick pure funk 70's beat you wont find that nowadays i wish it was alot longer.

  • mm...... KOOKIES

  • so did doom

  • is that cuba gooding holding the sign

  • This was tha shit, straight-up PIMP shit!!!

  • Feels like a B-boy Christmas breakin beat. LOL Tight.
