Most people don't call stuff like alesana screamo to look cool, (though there are some people that do and i'd like to assrape them with a chainsaw) people just don't know that bands like Saetia are around and that there is a difference. They hear screaming and see emotional lyrics so they assume it's screamo. When I first started listening to post-hardcore a few years ago, I did the same thing. Let's educate people, let's respect other genres, don't you want people to respect screamo?

i guess there were a small community, and there still is. its mostly based upon the internets, as the fanbase is small, tho international. they were around from 97-99, but there were bands with the screamo sound in around the latest years of the 80's.

crust punk is another genre, but recently with neocrust it has taken a step closer to screamo. (ekkaia and fall of efrafa eg)
