I don't like this term Democracy. I don't like it because tossing around the term 'democracy" leads to confusion. The united states is not a Democracy, people need to understand this.
Our founding fathers did everything they could to make sure the word "Democracy" was nowhere in our constitution or declaration of independence. The U.S.A is a Republic, a republic being RULED BY LAW.
As Honduras' top general said, "No one is above the law." Not Zelaya, and not Obama.
Obama is a leftist president, supporting leftist type presidents such as Zelaya, Chaves, Correa and Fidel....Honduras will not be a puppet of any Country...
@hectate7 Obama is not a leftist the investment banks bought his presidency during the '08 campaign he is in favor of corporate hegemony which is why his administration has recognized the coup regime, which will will reverse all the socialist/progressive reforms that Zelaya had implemented like a minimum wage and protection from privatization of state services, which always leads to heightened inequality. So fuck Obama, but not for your reasons
It's very clear from these comments: Obama stands with Zelaya, Chavez and Castro. In the name of righting historic wrongs, he turns his back on the Honduran Supreme Court, the Honduran constitution, Zelaya's own party, the Honduran people who crave any scrap of support for democracy from America, and for real democracy itself.
I hate Zelaya, becuase of him so many people have been really stressed out because we as Honduras dont know anymore what the future might behold for us, we dont if by tomorrow people are going to be setting bombs in public places just because an a.hole like Zelaya wanted to gain more power
It wasn't a coup, they were playing war games only! These "democrats" believe in Democracy as much as Pinochet believed in it.
Zelaya's sin: he likes the hourses, he uses a cow-boy hat, he is a "chavista", a "comunist", and so on....
Now we know , Democracy is only for white, "intelligent" people, and a new sense for coup: sometimes they are completelly legal, depending of who makes it and where, of course.
I just love how the left paints this as a coup despite the fact that it is legal. It's a little like referring to a cold fire or dry water. It would be funny if it wasn't so serious.
gatufighter, if you knew anything about Latin America, you would know, like Venezuelans, Bolivians, Ecuadorians, and the rest of the people enslaved by Marxist thugs known, that the referendum for a new constitution that Zelaya wanted to do against Honduran law is part of the despicable scheme devised by Castro to enslave people under the pretense of "democracy." Wiser than other Latin Americans, Hondurans would rather be isolated for a few years than enslaved like the Cubans for more than 50!
Obama lies, manipulates, intimidates just like Castro, Chavez, and the rest of the Marxist thugs who are destroying Latin America. Obama has more in common with those thugs than he does with any honest and patriotic American.
Millions of Venezuelans, Nicaraguans, Bolivians, Ecuadorians, etc. wish we could have done what Hondurans are doing before the Marxist thugs working for Castro and Chavez enslaved our countries like Zelaya is trying to enslave Honduras.
Obama sides with terrorists and U.S. enemies because he is a Marxist who hates the U.S. Imitating Hugo Chavez, Obama wants to nationalize everything, including our health care system! "Hey, Obama has just nationalized nothing more and nothing less than General Motors. Comrade Obama!" Chavez cheered on Venezuelan TV a few days ago. He added that he and Cuba's Fidel Castro would now have to work harder just to keep up.
I would just like to say that i was there when this happened and i know what the people of honduras are saying and they are for the most part in full support of the coup, and michelletti, zelaya was wanting to be a dictator and the people of honduras stood up to him and said no, thats what happened, it was perfectly legal
Zelaya did not violated the Constitution! He was making a survey to know what people think about this matter (re-election). Its is 100% legal everywhere! He did not tryed to change any law. But this is Latin America, where the military, the Catholic Church and the media are very powerful. They planned the coup because Zelaya was trying to change the economic situation for the poor, a crime in some countries in L.A. Some "democrats" here think they are living in the Could War time.
he was trying to change the economic situation for everybody to make them all poor, he was sending the nation into chaos, trust me, i would know, i was there
It was a pro-Democracy coup! A blow to Latin American Communists and a victory for Freedom! Zelaya was violating the very same Constitution he was sworn to uphold and the Hondurans called bullshit on him! "Standing with Democracy" means supporting PRESIDENT Michelletti not vice versa! Obumma is just annoyed one of his Communist buddies got his ass removed!
A coup, by definition, is not pro-democracy. Had the government of Honduras impeached and removed Zelaya, that would have been a pro-democracy move.
The entire world is annoyed that a communist was removed? No, the entire world is annoyed that the government used anti-democratic methods to reach their goals.
A coup in support of Democracy, if an elected official flips his lid and tries to illegally lengthen his term then he deserves to be taken out by all means necessary. You are just trying to support President Obongo's obviously wrong call on this situation. Guess what Che? Zelaya isn't going to return regardless of how you Communist freaks whine and cry about 'anti-democratic methods." His term is over and let it serve as a warning to the next fucker who attempts to dismantle a Constitution!
I agree with you, in the end, Zelaya probably won't be able to return. The logistics don't seem to work. That in itself doesn't justify the means though.
For the fifth time, Obama has nothing to do with this. The world community at large has condemned this coup. Are you seriously unable to understand where I'm coming from here, that I would have had no problem had Zelaya been impeached by Congress?
I don't give a rat's petard what the whole world says. That doesn't make them right and besides all other governments are going to condemn it because they all fear it. In my opinion it's the people's way of keeping government in check and all tyrant wannabes should take notice. Mad Respekt to the all my homeys in the Honduran military! Job well done! Defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign & domestic!
StinkingHombre--Right on Brother! You are telling the truth. The Honduran constitution says NOTHING about impeachment as qwertyman129 would lead you to believe. He keeps trying to judge this affair by the US constitution. He still doesn't get it or he is just plain obstinate.
I've said that I agree that there's no procedure in the constitution for impeachment. The solution to that would be for Congress to create an impeachment process, not to order the military to force the elected President out of the country and forge his letter of resignation.
We don't need words about democracy. Obama must do something else. This was a coup, Zelaya was taken by fource to Costa Rica by the military. He could have been dead in this action. Every act of the coup makers is absolutely ilegal. The UNO, AEO and the whole world know that. This is the same libretto used all over the world by the imperialism. Remember Dominican Rep '54, Congo '61,Chile '73, Venezuela '02 and so on...
gatufighter-You have a democracy and Zelaya was intent upon changing that to a dictatorship. The Honduran constitution was honorerd and the remedy was carried out accordingly. Could I interest you in taking Obama? He will be the perfect replacement for communist/ socialist Zelaya. I could care less about what the WORLD says. The UN and OAS are so full of shit who could put any weight on their pathectic existence? They are also infested with Chavez thinking socialists. This was not a coup.
Is sad to hear about us said. The problem in Honduras is in Honduras. The Hondurans people need to resolve his own problems. Obama is pragmatic, not comunist. Please don;t be ignorant.
the Honduran far right has brainwashed the honduran people to believe its ok to topple a government, It is undemocratic and makes us Hondurans look like fools, Don't u guys remember when micheletti + Zelaya were best buds, the honduran newspapers and tv stations are owned by the people in the government, the elite, liberals and conservatives r the same, and Zelaya is part of that elite to, in my opinion they should all resign. CORRUPTS! and Obama is just siding with democracy, give him a break.
Obama is so wrong!! hes probably scared of Chavez, he does not want to go into conflict with all the leftist countries, i thought the US was smarter than that! why cant they see or WONT see the truth? what are you hiding Obama?
Evenor48...are u even Honduran? if ur not, dont give ur nonsense opinions without foundation!
Obama is not wrong. Some body need to talk about the right humans in Colombia. And about Zelaya, Zelaya is by law the real president of Honduras. The republican want to make a mess with this.
Evenor48 -- you need to read the Honduran constitution fool cos you know NOTHING of which you speak. The Honduran constitution was properly carried out. I would say Obama has never been so wrong but that would be foolish as he has been so wrong on EVERYTHING so far.
This is BS to the extreme! I am no expert in Honduran law but from what i have read the former Pres was breaking the law in trying to make it so he could stay in longer. Why then should we fight for this person who is obviously on a power trip. The Honduran gov acted within its constitution so why is this illegal? Yet we let the Iranian government kill their own people and say we don't want to meddle? Seriously something does not seem right about this...hmmmm.......
Obama you are wrong! get the facts first, before you speak. So was Hitler and Hugo Chavez democratically elected and look what they've done. Shame on you Barak. Your lack of knowledge and poor judgment speaks for themselves. What planet are you living? Shame on you.!!! Yes I am Honduran.
guess what America is comunist to'' you just dont know who controle America ..you think that America is free .wake up people,,we deserve to live and have the same right as everybody aus you think that only rich people should have power ,,no now is time of Obama change,, poor deserve vacations to not just work work work.. if barack obama is comunist God bless him jesus was a comunist to .. remenber he said give all your money to the poors... God bless America and barack Obama,,amen
Manuel Zelaya is our only constitutional president we want him back! how could be possible that our own soldiers killed 2 persons on national tv and micheletti suspended the transmition!I want the best for my contry and coups are ilegal!! so I want zelaya back!!
holaalguien ---This was not a coup!!!!!!!! you need to read your own constitution because he isn't your president now. He was relieved of his duties by the Honduran Supreme Court for trying to illegally change the constitution It's not only LEGAL but it is also the way it is. We should do the same thing to Dohbama!
You mean that Justice Thomas should issue an order to General Mullen to force Obama onto a flight to Canada and then have forge a letter of resignation?
qwertyman129-- come on man..is that all you've got. Even though I think your comment was probably the only moment of clarity you've had and it's fun to entertain that scenario...I must say you have NO clue of what the Honduran Constitution says cos if you did you would shut up.
I know that there's no constitutional procedure for removal of officers in the Honduran Constitution. The response to that should not be to then allow for military removal by force, but for an orderly, legal impeachment process.
From what I've read, Zelaya did violate the constitution and should have been removed. But it was done in entirely the wrong way, and subsequent actions have actually undermined the entire point of his removal in the first place (constitutional suspensions? WTF?)
qwertyman129 --- wrong again. You seem as you like obama so much and or hate repubs enough that you aren't seeing the reality here. This is not a sporting event in which you root for your team right or wrong. This is a leader who chose to break the Honduran constitution of which states clearly that who ever tries to change election laws or term limits shall be removed. This isn't up to your partisan leanings...it's constitutional. Of course obama has cjosen to follow in this path of socialism.
Obama has nothing to do with this at all. I agree with everything you say; Zelaya violated the Constitution and should have been removed. However, it was done the wrong way. Congress should have impeached him, not had him removed forcibly by the military without due process.
This isn't about Obama following some path of socialism, the OAS, UN and dozens of states have all called this an illegal military coup.
You assume that opposing a military coup means supporting Obama, which is not true.
qwertyman129 ---Respectfully you are trying to use our constitution in their paradigm and it is not the way theirs is written. In the US the congress would have those powers. They followed their constitution and its THEIR LAW not ours. As far as the OAS, UN etc. goes they're non entities as several of those countries are enemies of democracy so I can't pay much attention to their diatribe. The Supreme Court of Honduras did EXACTLY what the law says to do. I commend them for their patriotism.
He isn't defending communism, he's defending democracy. You people have the ability to see communism everywhere. A president who doesn't kill thousands of people in the name of democracy (or freedom) is a communist for you?
So not only does Obama want to ignore (at best) or destroy (likely course) our own constitution, he wants to help other leftists destroy the constitutions of their countries. The Honduran constitution was very clear on what had to happen and their government was doing it. Obama is probably scared that if he keeps up his blatant socialism that we might do the same thing here, although the steps for removing him would obviously be different.
Obama needs to ask Michele for his balls back and use them. Fledgling democracies that president was trying to rewrite the Honduran Constitution and started to eliminate anyone that opposed him. I think Obama is a little to comfortable with that concept for me. For Obama to side with Hugo Chavez is scary and shows us what we are in for. He has got to go!
My god, what is Obama thinking and what the is he siding with the Hugo and the others ? my goodness what the hell has happened to this country and to my governemt ?
I Have nothing against the people of USA, just your goberment, and I think you are alienated from reality becouse of the media, but its in your hans to change that.
(I am not communist, not everyone who disagree with you is it)
Honduras was on the process of a National Plebiscite, a democratic way to change the Constitution. But once again conservatives with the back up of the Church, Judges and part of the Congress have stoped this CITIZEN RIGHT with a MILITARY COUP and an illegal arrest (no rights respected even for his family). All for personal interest, and finally for money. You should be proud that this time your President doesnt support a HUMAN RIGHT VIOLATION like this, at least from his mouth out.
sorry but you are wrong. he had completed his first term. he put forward an amendment to the constitution to change it so that a president could run for a second term. this is all well and good, but it also states that if any elected official, ie. the president, puts forth any such legislation that he himself would benefit then that elected official must resign his post. the case went to the supreme court and found that he was in direct violation and legally employed the military to remove him.
FALSE. his term ended when he put forward the legislation that he would have benefited from.
his term ended when the supreme court found him guilty.
his term ended when he kept trying to fire the head of the military for not following his coop of trying to change the government to an totalitarian socialist government controlled exclusively by him.
his term ended when the the congress, supreme court and citizens of Honduras legally and democratically told him to step down.
I have to inform you that the court told him to step down hours after he was kidnapped and exiled. And it seems that court's rule was unconstitutional too.
This is a serious situation when the leader of the free world is siding with the comms/socialist leaders and not backing the small country of Honduras trying to keep out the dictator wanna be. Pres O is on the wrong side. Honduras needs a strong ally now, it needs a Pres Bush to stand by its side. ----From the movie: The Godfather when the Don tells the mortician " then your enemies will be my enimies". Zelaya would not try to go back to Honduras if Bush said "oh no you dont".
This ignorant man. Prez O dont know what the hell he is talking about. The people of Houndurus do not want this Chavez wannabe dictator running their country. Zelaya violated the country's constitution and was removed. It was not a coup. Well, add one more apology to the Obama apology future world tour. Siding with Chavez, Ortega, and the Castro bros is not only wrong, it is stupid. Another dumbass mistake by our 'very smart' Pres.
I am SO SICK AND TIRED OF LIBERALS! I AM SHAKING WITH RAGE AS I TYPE THIS! FUCK LIBERALS and FUCK OBAMA!! I am moving to Russia! At least I will have a REAL president, General Putin! And I hope there is a war between Russia and America, so I can fight on the Russian side against liberal America!
Actually I am thinking to moving to Britian, I lost faith in America after Bush and Obama has hit the last nail on the coffin for me. Way too much spending and now gov controls health, banks, states, wall st, soon energy.
HOLY FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!! This guy is taking the side of his fellow communists Chavez and the Castro brothers. Once again he has come down on the WRONG side of things!!!!!!!! GOOD GOD! >:(
THIS WAS NOT A COUP YOU HALF WHITE IDIOT!!!! MY GOD THIS IS EMBARRASING! If he can't understand what a coup is he isn't fit to be president. The Honduran constitution directly states that what has happened IS what was supposed to happen. Anyone trying to change the constitution regarding election laws and terms IS to be removed. The Supreme Court of Honduras has agreed. The war with communism is NOT over.
Wake Up America! Zelaya is the puppet of communist dictator Hugo Chavez. Chavez wants to spread communism in all America. Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, Ecuador, and next, Honduras, Mexico, Chile, Peru...
I like how Obama says 'Honduras'.

Rangerday1 2 years ago
Obama has nothing to do with this at all. I agree with everything you say; Zelaya violated the Constitution and should have been removed. However, it was done the wrong way. Congress should have impeached him, not had him removed forcibly by the military without due process.
This isn't about Obama following some path of socialism, the OAS, UN and dozens of states have all called this an illegal military coup.
You assume that opposing a military coup means supporting Obama, which is not true.
qwertyman129 2 years ago
qwertyman129 ---Respectfully you are trying to use our constitution in their paradigm and it is not the way theirs is written.

Mr. President - why did you not address the fact that their president attempted to re-write their constitution?

BEcause he was legaly elected by the people. Thank U Obama for supporting latinamerica, we don´t need no more countries stepping on us nomore

He isn't defending communism, he's defending democracy. You people have the ability to see communism everywhere. A president who doesn't kill thousands of people in the name of democracy (or freedom) is a communist for you?

He doesnt say how corrupt Zelaya is, and why was he overthrown, so he in en favor of corruption , because Obama is in favor of Chavez and Castro now.

what an idiot
Zepman2393 2 years ago
So not only does Obama want to ignore (at best) or destroy (likely course) our own constitution, he wants to help other leftists destroy the constitutions of their countries. The Honduran constitution was very clear on what had to happen and their government was doing it. Obama is probably scared that if he keeps up his blatant socialism that we might do the same thing here, although the steps for removing him would obviously be different.

To Elect Obama is the biggest mistake that American people have committed in the history of the U.S.A.

You should be proud that this time your President doesnt support a HUMAN RIGHT VIOLATION like this, at least from his mouth out.
antoniommeschi 2 years ago
sorry but you are wrong. he had completed his first term. he put forward an amendment to the constitution to change it so that a president could run for a second term. this is all well and good, but it also states that if any elected official, ie. the president, puts forth any such legislation that he himself would benefit then that elected official must resign his post. the case went to the supreme court and found that he was in direct violation and legally employed the military to remove him.
4tiggers 2 years ago
False. His term ends 27 January 2010.
antoniommeschi 2 years ago
FALSE. his term ended when he put forward the legislation that he would have benefited from.
his term ended when the supreme court found him guilty.
his term ended when he kept trying to fire the head of the military for not following his coop of trying to change the government to an totalitarian socialist government controlled exclusively by him.
his term ended when the the congress, supreme court and citizens of Honduras legally and democratically told him to step down.
4tiggers 2 years ago 2

Costaricambar 2 years ago
