I almost always use the bar when playing my Strats, sometimes fingers and bar. It just sounds better and I have more control. When playing my Les Paul's I use finger vibrato, but I do it different than finger vibrato on my Strat. You just use whichever way feels and sounds better, depending on the guitar, frets, and strings height.
I'm not a jazz player so I can't help there. It is a bright, hot pickup. I think it sounds Ok clean, but I usually use it in position 2 with the middle pickup for clean stuff.
Actually, with the tone knob about 9:00-10:00 (my preferred setting) I don't notice any difference with the toggle on or off. I don't really notice anything until I move the tone past 12:00. The Rat is a good pedal. That is what I used before I got my PF. I also use a BYOC Large Beaver that nails the Muff tone really well.
Brilliant job. Any suggestions on alternatives to using the mistress and what do you think about muff and rat pedal clones available? I hear you can use either to get close to the tone, plan on getting a GGG BMP and maybe a BYOC rat?? I used the DG20 set a long time ago, I just remember it being a pain buying 9V batteries? They offer a lot of tones, but I'd rather have that early black strat tone as well.
A Rat is a good choice if you can't afford a good muff, but a Rat 2 can be found for under $100 so I don't know what the point of getting a clone is. I think the BYOC Large Beaver Triangle Muff is your best Gilmour distortion for the money. Next to that, get a Sovtek Green Big Muff on ebay, or an Absolutely Analog Green Russian (Sovtek Clone).
Thanks for the suggestions. I've owned a number of muff pedals but sold them all, never owned a Rat so I was curious? I guess I build another Muff, BYOC muffs are a little more than GGG's, the reason I usually go with GGG. That mistress is huge, I was hoping to find a smaller pedal but I guess I'll have to check them out. Thanks again!
Seriously, nice job. One of my all time fav's. I can play this but I'm struggling with one part of "the lick" in the second riff. I've got it down but I'm still missing a few of those subtleties that makes Gilmour, well, Gilmour. I've got the DG-EMG set-up in my American Limited Ash Sienna Sunburst w/ Tortoise Pickguard. You can't go past 8 on the volume knob though or things get harsh. Too hot! May convert back to passive. Like your tone.
I always get BudK Catalog, and see your swords...
I was looking up Guitar Videos and I saw YOU! never knew you were a Pink Floyd/Gilmour enthusiast also!

Great tone !
I've got a Pink Flesh too, but I use it on the juicy position. Do you prefer the flat one ?
On my video response, I use a RAT

After your message, I tried the Pink Flesh with your settings. Then the sound is really great for Animals-The Wall stuff, better than the Rat.
With the tone higher (2:00 - 3:00), I find that we can achieve DSOTM fuzz tones

Ah, but can you play the second riff? . . .

Work on your vibrato technique - don't rely solely on the whammy bar, you need to incorporate your own. Just some suggestions, hope they helped.
MikeGuitarFreak 3 years ago
Sorry, but I prefer playing with just the whammy bar for vibrato. Been playing that way for 20 years and love it!

Absoluely wonderful tone.
I'm jealous.
