  • It sounds just like starting over in a new city anywhere :)

  • as always, great info! wondered about how much, though...you suggest bringing some 3K to start off with. other people are telling me only $600-700 needed. so getting conflicting info and want to be prepared. other the the things you mention in this video, what expenses can i expect? thanks again for your very great information!!

    best,

    zach

  • It depends on what country you're going to and what kind f living arrangements you'll have. My school pays for the room and gave me basics (cooking stuff and bed linens). So coming with $1000 should be enough. The more money you have the less stress you have. I would recommend at least $1000.

  • Great. No one is worried about anything.

  • I shudder (or is it shutter?) to think how many people don't have access to this kind of advice before heading out there to do what you're doing.

Looking forward to seeing that park and however much of the rest of the city you show us, Steve!

    :-)

  • Thanks Curt. It's amazing to think about how much one doesn't know when you stat out on this little journey. Now that you have a bachelor's degree... want to come teach?

    muhahahahahaha

  • Why am I also hearing thunder crash while I read your "muahahah"??!

    LOL

BTW, I thought you could only move abroad if the broad WANTED to be moved.

    *rimshot*

  • LOL

  • Back in in the R.Korea, are you? Thanks for the videos- i'm sitll debating whether I would like to go out and live/teach abroad when I finish school (probably somewhere where you are located).

Can't wait for more videos, and I hope the DPRK doesn't cause you any problems!

  • It's not going to cause any problems!

  • Thanks Bryan!

  • Kamusta! Ako ay issang Bundang oso. Ako ay issa manunulat at issa professora. Salamat po!

  • PS-I've moved into copy editing and text book writing in the ESL business for a major corporation; I am no longer a teacher. Ownership in the villa was part of my "incentive" package.

  • Very cool.

  • That's the kind of gig I need to get into!

  • I first came to Korea in 2000 with less than 100 bucks, and my boss fronted me about a million won to get set up. Maybe times have changed; maybe i had a GREAT boss! Who knows, but I do know my case is atypical. I'm back in the States for the summer, but I'm still part owner of a villa in Bundang-dong, near Yuldon Park, not far from you!!

  • Not far at all.

  • Wow...I am so out of it. I had no idea you were going back to Korea. Now, I'm particularly sad I didn't get to see you when you came to DC!

  • I'll be in DC again. Don't you worry about it!

  • really good info!

  • Thanks Di!

  • If you live in Seoul and you want some recommendations on where to and where not to go to buy supplies for your apartment, send me a message. The weird thing about Seoul is that you can get the same thing at two different places, same quality but the price difference will be astounding.

  • That is true. Just have to be savvy.

  • Hi I am one of your subscribers, I am being away from Korea for studying in Aus. I know a guy teaching English in Dongtan, do you happen to know an english teacher from canada? His name is Ryan. We used to hang out together when he was in Buchon and later he got a job in Dongtan. This guy is cool, if you happen to know him. please say hi.

  • Thanks for watching!

  • They won't have a movie theater for over two years? How big is this city?

  • Nope... Not really sure... they are still building it. Think of it as a new suburb of a city. Not everything is in place yet.

  • What excellent info and insight. You certainly are an authority and I value your excellent illustration

  • You're welcome.

  • That is true. Some privates are going the settlement allowances route as well. Even still W300k-400k can go very quickly.

  • love the background. qiranger is the MAAAYN

  • Thanks DC. Took the picture at Central Park. Playing with the white wall and chromakeying for an upcoming project.

  • man you've got the greatest game show voice ever. so old school its fresh

  • Thanks mate. I'll be bringing back the YouTube Family Feud soon!

  • Thanks mate!

  • Good hearing from yah Steve. monthly pay would drive me nuts. When do you start teaching?

  • My first class is Monday!

  • So there is no recession there? Sorry we missed each other when you were here. Our church helps people that want to do such things like this. I help sponsor a woman in Ukraine who teaches english and computer training. She is also a missionary for the church, so it is a little different. I know you aren't there for any religious purposes. Great info!

  • That's great. There is a recession, but it isn't affecting the education sector to a great extent.

I do a fair bit of religious work while here and will continue to do so.

  • Top video, glad to see you got there safely

  • Thanks Karl!

  • Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying them.
