as always, great info! wondered about how much, though...you suggest bringing some 3K to start off with. other people are telling me only $600-700 needed. so getting conflicting info and want to be prepared. other the the things you mention in this video, what expenses can i expect? thanks again for your very great information!!
It depends on what country you're going to and what kind f living arrangements you'll have. My school pays for the room and gave me basics (cooking stuff and bed linens). So coming with $1000 should be enough. The more money you have the less stress you have. I would recommend at least $1000.
Thanks Curt. It's amazing to think about how much one doesn't know when you stat out on this little journey. Now that you have a bachelor's degree... want to come teach?
Back in in the R.Korea, are you? Thanks for the videos- i'm sitll debating whether I would like to go out and live/teach abroad when I finish school (probably somewhere where you are located).
Can't wait for more videos, and I hope the DPRK doesn't cause you any problems!
PS-I've moved into copy editing and text book writing in the ESL business for a major corporation; I am no longer a teacher. Ownership in the villa was part of my "incentive" package.
I first came to Korea in 2000 with less than 100 bucks, and my boss fronted me about a million won to get set up. Maybe times have changed; maybe i had a GREAT boss! Who knows, but I do know my case is atypical. I'm back in the States for the summer, but I'm still part owner of a villa in Bundang-dong, near Yuldon Park, not far from you!!
If you live in Seoul and you want some recommendations on where to and where not to go to buy supplies for your apartment, send me a message. The weird thing about Seoul is that you can get the same thing at two different places, same quality but the price difference will be astounding.
Hi I am one of your subscribers, I am being away from Korea for studying in Aus. I know a guy teaching English in Dongtan, do you happen to know an english teacher from canada? His name is Ryan. We used to hang out together when he was in Buchon and later he got a job in Dongtan. This guy is cool, if you happen to know him. please say hi.
So there is no recession there? Sorry we missed each other when you were here. Our church helps people that want to do such things like this. I help sponsor a woman in Ukraine who teaches english and computer training. She is also a missionary for the church, so it is a little different. I know you aren't there for any religious purposes. Great info!
It sounds just like starting over in a new city anywhere :)

I shudder (or is it shutter?) to think how many people don't have access to this kind of advice before heading out there to do what you're doing.
Looking forward to seeing that park and however much of the rest of the city you show us, Steve!

They won't have a movie theater for over two years? How big is this city?
Yerzriknot 2 years ago
Nope... Not really sure... they are still building it. Think of it as a new suburb of a city. Not everything is in place yet.

That's great. There is a recession, but it isn't affecting the education sector to a great extent.
I do a fair bit of religious work while here and will continue to do so.
