I like both versions equally. The original is awesome - just so feel-good that it puts the biggest smile on my face. This version sort of takes the lyrical meaning of the song to a deeper, more profound level. So yeah, I like both of them - listening to either one just depends on my mood really.

And I've worked with professional trained vocalists, so I kind of know what I'm talking about. She's not bad, but to transfer that song into a good classic version, you need much more skill.

I get what you're saying but just FYI, Kate Miller-Heidke is actually a trained Soprano; I don't think this cover does her voice any justice. As well as her clever brand of pop, she's been in Operas including Turn of the Screw as Flora and as Baby Jane in Jerry Springer: The Opera at the Sydney Opera House. She has also been nominated for several ARIA awards, such as Best Female Artist. So I think it's safe to say that Miller-Heidke is quite a skilled singer :) Check out her other vids.

i remember when i first saw Kate Miller-Heidke at the Tivolli in Brisbane, she was supporting for I do believe it was for evermore. While the concert itself was shit as the doors opened at 6 and the first supporting act went on at 8 an there was an hour between the support acts and main act. However she was amazing, her reception was mixed as she was very unique. However her voice was beautiful.

I agree. It's become such a cliche - half tempo + fragile/delicate vocals + sparse guitar/piano arrangement. It can be done well (Nancy Sinatra's cover of "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)". More often than not it's just a cheap, uninspired, formulaic way of reconstructing a song.

But if people like it - great. Personally, this performance makes me cringe.
