I don't think I could give them democracy, and I do think that point of view--that many others carry--is a load of BS. I was simply voicing it because that was my interpretation of the lyrics, and the thought process Cocorosie was mocking. I agree with everything you are saying--it is a bunch of BS. The US is doing a bunch of shit, and I don't agree with lots of it.

This song, while appealing to a certain group in its own avant-garde sort of way, is pretty dischordant and weird. The lyrics are also pretty simplistic and childish, and not in a way that allows them to be an allegory or something more transcendent. Just thought I'd add my own opinion, seeing as the comments are dominated by huge CocoRosie fans. I listen to a lot of eclectic, off-the-wall shit, and I think this is just garbage. Just sayin'.

@watj I think you just have to look at the lyrics a little differently. To me Cocorosie is making a comment on how Americans imagine other places based not on knowledge but stereotype. California is thought of as a giant playground, but when you get there, you never have enough because there is so much; Jamaica is thought of as an island in the sun where people do nothing but sing and smoke weed, but really it has it's dangers like any other place; Iraq was a country we thought we could save...

Think about it this way--many people (at least those I heard from) thought that Iraq needed democracy as soon as possible. We saw them as a nation who'd been overpowered by a government full of tyrants; we felt that freeing them from this type of government would liberate their country as a whole, and we wanted to be the ones who did it.

We were wrong on all counts, and half the time when we go somewhere we complain that it's, "...not like we pictured..." when really we're stupid for thinking we'd love Japan because we watched Sailor Moon growing up. I hope perhaps my take might encourage you to reconsider your views on Cocorosie, but if it doesn't then I hope you at least semi-enjoyed reading all this. :P
