Nice Roger! Great tune great wonderful playing. Heard some of the CD last night they were playing it during our breaks at Jazz 28. Congrats on the recording.
I like the way this really gets cooking about 3:15 - I notice the Eb5 on this piano is a bit out of tune. I sometimes wish I could detune just one key to add a bit more character to the sound.
Thanks for this pointer to pianoteq. l don't think a modelled sound yet matches a sampled sound; it still sounds plucked more than hit, and there's not enough difference in character between notes - hence it probably needs shaping of the sound of each note. But ultimately modelling will prevail over sampling.
Yes, I really liked the way this one turned-out. The first solo chorus starts out free, with the rhythmic pulse implied. Then, when it starts to swing, the solo builds. Also the contrast between the bass pedal tones and walking bass adds to the tension and building of the solo until the "climax" and back to the out head.
thanks for the comment! quite a site you have here. great music and information, presented in a clear, inspiring format. ever do bill evans 'time remembered?' i found a simple little trick with the accordion, which also works on piano (or any other instrument) voice the notated simple triad in the left hand, and then in the right play the same quality chord a whole step up...creates some interesting colours you can play around with.
Wow - this is fantastic! Great song and great performance. Thanks yet again for sharing such an awesome jazz video, Lot2learn :) This is one of my faves, particularly like the space and feel of your playing in this one.
This CD is a real jazz work gem, full of beautiful compositions,I never get tired of listening to it. Mixed with great sound, fantastic piano improvisation, a big compliment also goes to the drummer with the impeccable timing and dynamics
Great job, fellas! Very enjoyable, as always.

Thanks Paul. The new version of Pianoteq Pro software actually does allow you to detune individual notes.

Wonderful playing Roger - a lesson to us all on building a solo and holding our attention. And the rest of the band are terrific too!
