I have had a stomache biopsy, with a fine needle. I had the most pain i've ever experienced, but my guess is, that it was the doctors fault. He injected the local anaestethics, didn't test or ask if i felt anything, and inserted the biopsy needle in less than 10 seconds... I had that feeling you normally get from local anaestethics about 10 minutes AFTER the biopsy was done.
I've once sprained my ancle, and i walked around without much pain in mind. So i have a high pain threshold, but this...
I have had dozen of these in the last 14 years starting when i was 8 i am 22 now there is nothing to fear from this procedure and it really dues give the doc an ideal what they need to do.
i am 13 and might have to get a liver biopsy. i'm so terrified of the pain. i really don't want one done. but i need to know what's wrong with me. does it hurt. please be completley honest
Just finished this procedure with this doctor. He made it a walk in the park. Previous experiences were not like this. The doc makes all the difference.
sorry for the delay answering: yes they can but believe me the "twilight state" they put you in and the local are more than sufficient tp prevent pain or you caring about it ...turn your head and avoid the dangers of general anesthetic
no nit necessarily. Unless you have HCV and are willing to treat it, there really is no reason for biopsy...in fact many mds are using a fibroscan system as an non-invasive option...does that help? or just create more questions?
one of my relatives will undergo that procedure in few days for a suspected hepatic cancer,I wish unpainful experience and a good interpretation for him and for all people who have to experience this.
wow. Do they need to stick it in there that far. I just had a liver biopsy and they had me awake but the pain meds were great. made sure not to look . maybe they did stick it in that far?? Didn't really feel much.
I couldn't even feel mine because the tumors were on the outside of the liver and the liver was so swollen that they barely had to go in that far. Theyused a diff method than this. They stuck me in a catscan thingy to locate the exact area to poke me. After they found the exact spot he glued a thing that was like a straw to the bullseye. Then he stuck a longer needle down the straw and took 7 or 8 small slivers of the tumor. It didn't hurt at all. It all depends on how easy it is to get at it!
That looks sore doing it like that and while the patient is still awake. I was put on local anaestetic and put to sleep, woke up just feeling a little bit daisy and I felt great after that. Looking at this method of a liver biopsy make it look scary, sore and painful.
I went in to hospital for a liver biopsy(Hep C).The other patients there were scanned and marked, then they got to me.During the scan the 2 docs were looking at each other, shaking their heads.Surgeon said I do not feel confident & will reschedule for A US biopsy. He said it was because I had too many vessels close together & this would be safer..but it made me scared there was something they weren't telling me.Have it in 5 days & from what I've heard&read I do expect some pain!
Had some discomfort for a couple of days afterwards, but not as much pain as I expected. They were very good at controlling that..and there was no dark secret(my vivid imagination).Only had any real pain for 30 minutes or so after the procedure,They sedate you first and then have the analgesic(Fenatil) going nearly the whole day.Starting 48wks combined therapy shortly. :)
BTWI noticed your Hospital system must be very different to ours.Treatment is free in Public Hospitals here if you are on social security or dont have medical insurance.
I had a liver biopsy done 9/4 by a former student of Dr D's, so it was a procedure fairly similar to this. It was definitely not painless; however, my superficial layers of skin were numbed & afterward I was given demerol. During the procedure it felt as though my liver was being yanked over to the right, with enough surprising force that I yelled & kicked the resident at the foot of my bed. Once pain meds wore off, I felt like I got kicked in the gut with a soccer ball. Feeling okay today tho.
Jayrod59 is so right and true! It was extremely painful.they gave me the same lecture,no pain, local site with lanacaine.Oh my! What pain! The needle looks about 6-8 inches long and they stick it in you why they watch the catscan/xray.They do not care about your pain. They actually vagaled me out! I could not breath!Extremely bad experience for me also.Avoid at all costs!Get put to sleep if you really have to have this done! You are ineffective afterwards anyway,so go to sleep and avoid the pain.
So sorry to hear that you and jayrod had bad experiences. Such experinces made the making of this properly performed liver biopsy procedure performed by a expert. Sedation, pain meds and local numbing is part of a properly performed liver biopsy procedure, If any one of these things is not happening...STOP the procedure right there. You have the power to refuse the biopsy if all is not in order. Help others to understand their rights....be an advocate.
Go to sleep... My god.. Yeah i hurt a bit (had a liver biopsy yesterday) but u dont need to be put to sleep. The anenstetic hurt most, but the biopsy itself dosnt take more then 10 secs top. And when u are really sick like i am, u really just want to find out whats wrng. so they can fix u:)
Your right. So they can fix you. Well I'm on a $10,000, twelve month program called Anticavir (Antiviral). I've now been on it for three months and my liver improvement is dramatically unbelievably improving considering I was an alcoholic for twenty years with my liver deteriorating. I did try to drink alcohol again but my body couldn't down it so I was feeling quite nausea (horrible feeling) so it reversed. I'm happy, feeling great just a little change in life style. Good way to give up alchol.
I had a liver biopsy a couple of months ago. At first I was scared, curious, praying to god everything that you can think of under the sun. I was put under anaestetic, dosed off, woke up as though nothing happend and got home feeling as fit as a fiddle. Now after almost two months, I'm starting to feel little tiny pains which seem to be increasing. The doctors aren't being serious with me cos I can feel it or could it just be my vivid imagination?
I had a liver biopsy done two weeks ago and it was very painful. I will never do it again with out some kind of sedative or pain medication. All the guy did was numb the area with lanacaine. Also he had to make two stabs for some reason. It was a BAD experience for me.
actually it wasnt even that bad i stayed for 45 mins after it was done then my mom drove me home the only thing i think was bad about it was the pain in my side
hepatitis C infection itself in early stages may not cause any symptoms. A blood test will help find out if your liver is being damaged, and then if it seems from your results that it may be a biopsy can tell how much. There are also tests out there that measure damage without biopsy which work pretty well but tbiopsy is still "the gold standard"
sorry cannot help with the cost...probably expensive like every biopsy...try alopecia forums to get answer. Any good MD will numb the place of biopsy with an agent before performing biopsy. Afterwards, think of how your head ould feel if you cut it...while it was healing , it would be a little sore and itchy but it would heal.
YES sedative is given and they made me stay for observation about 3-4 hrs. Driving yourself after biopsy is not recommended because of teh lasting effects of the sedative. I hope this was helpful
Im getting one tomorrow, and it doesn't look that painful. The last painful experience I had, was with a Korean Dentist, and she shot my upper gums up about 10 times with novacane, and jerked, and twisted, broke it in half, broke it again, then finally got it out. You wanna talk about some pain, get you some of that!
Argh... mine was quite painful. Definitely one of the more painful things ive had done. I had mine done just earlier this morning at 8. And I couldnt even MOVE PERIOD for 5 hours after words. It hurt a lot lol.
