In Hinduism, an avatar (English: /ˈæv.ə.tɑːr/, from Sanskrit avatāra, अवतार in the Devanagari script, meaning "descent") is a deliberate descent of a deity to earth, or a descent of the Supreme Being (i.e., Vishnu for Vaishnavites) and is mostly translated into English as "incarnation," but more accurately as "appearance" or "manifestation".[1][2]
i saw them performing live at vic's in chicago in 91'or 92' - everybody was mesmerized with aura of magic and mystery, they ripped the crowd apart with their glowing music and poetry and created great energy field never to be forgot
unquestionably one of biggest musical phenomenons, a class of its own
i "discovered" them in the 80s in school...thanks to my friend who was an australian exchange student lol! she also introduced me to clannad and enya ! i used to think i was the only american who knew and loved this type of music;-)
i saw them live in 1993... grew up with the cocteau twins and dcd (4ad)... truly a musicians' band... watching lisa sing and hammer away on the dulcimer was breathtaking. I saw the cocteau twins in 85 / 91 / 94. The 91 show was amazing to watch Robin play these huge chords that on the sustainer system.
@TheAliceParty I envy you,in a good way. In 1985 a friend of mine was smuggling a cassette with some 4AD artists in high school, in my far far away country. Amazing. I wish I was there :')
From the images that you used in your video, I suppose that you have read about Ancient Mythology, about DogHead creatures, that seems to exist thousands years ago.....You have expressed the meaning of the song title with your video pictures....Where are you from?????????
@ganyuehan Thank you for your interest. Actually, there's not a strictly logical reason for the choise of the images: i've just followed the arcane and haunting iconography that this song of DCD suggests to me :)
am only now "discovering" DCD - wow! incredible vocals and arrangements. Avatar and Bird are especially addictive. Her vocals in Avatar sound like Edith Piaf -- Mme. Piaf would be flattered and enjoy DCD as much as I do, I'm sure ;-)
I think i recall hearing when people first saw illistrations of the giraffe from study drawings done abroad ...they believed them to be as these ... fantastic monsters ...

If sounds are able to reach up into the corners of heaven, the music of Dead Can Dance will most certainly be among them

In life - you are where your thought, imagination and ideas are.
In your soul you are free to go wherever your imagination takes you.
By changing your thoughts and dreams you may become and be,
whatever you like to be or become.

Sorry is this is a stupid question, but why the use of monsters or hybrids like manticores as visuals. I like it, but I'm just curious.

Icon from 03:20 to 03:40 represents St. Christopher.
In the Orthodox east he is depicted with dog head according to Holy Tradition about his life, but that representation is not common.
