Compare this to youtube's Rev. Johnny Blakey "Warming By The Devil's Fire". Same emotional intensity. Son was a preacher on and off from his teenage years through his late '20s. Whiskey and women got the better of him. Had a good friend in Willie Brown. Good book on Son House called "Preaching The Blues". God bless Al Wilson, Dick Waterman and Joe Beard and all the people who helped Son. "I had a good-looking woman -- she lived in Hughes."
Too bad he only sings part 2 of that song in this recording.
When Alan Lomax recorded Muddy's "Country Blues" for the Library of Congress in 1941, Muddy admitted that the tune had originated with Son House's "My Black Mama" (1930). Robert Johnson also recorded his rendition as "Walkin' Blues" (1936).
...sounds like 'Walkin' Blues' =)
