If tax were put to what it justly should be put, that is, necessary public services such as health services instead of , say, wars, then taxes wouldn't have to be exorbitant anyway and the paying of taxes would be tantamount to the savings account that the guy in the book is suggesting.The reason we get catastrophic health care costs is because health care is being carried out for profit and not because human beings need it. Price control on all things medical is desirable in civil society.

Reserect this topic please the answer is simple...it has to be a socialized system. First, the gov. bills the people say $85/month for a 5 member family and about $25 a person. Everyone pays unless too poor to pay then free. It is ok to support your brother because he will support you. Government decides the billing costs, but the better the doctor you are the more cash you get. Remember that the gov. is the people, the people pay so they hire the gov. to oversee costs.

John Stossel made the point that what you describe is very similar to how normal car insurance works. If you get a small fender bender costing 500$ you don't claim it on your insurance you pay yourself bc otherwise your insurance premiums will go up forever. car insurance is used for more "catastrophic"damage to the car. this keeps the incentives on the car owner to be more carefulo but stil ensures he will be protected from huge $ loss in a big crash

When you stand naked in front of a mirror, are you fat? Fat people are actually starving to death. They don't digest their food. Sugar is readily absorbed, not needing to be digested. Without sugar, fat people would truly starve. Or they would learn how and what to eat.

People already take responsibility without insurance. What we eat and how we eat is a fundamental reason for disease and illness. It is assumed, what you eat is digested and absorbed. Medicine can not prove, only assume, you digest food. You are alive, you must be digesting food. Undigested food is poisonous, causing the disease and illness to break heath care costs.

Banks can fail, robbing you of your "medical" savings account.

get the fluoride out of our water and toothpaste and we could reduce a lot of illness. eliminate fraudulent testing of hiv and cancer and we could reduce a lot of unnecessary expenditures. feed people healthy natural foods and stop telling americans that they are under constant terror alerts and we could save a lot of money from all those stress related conditions. the government policies are the cause of most problems. we need to open up more healing retreat centers to de-stress ourselves.

As far as fluoride goes, I've gone back and forth on that issue, and I'm not entirely convinced that fluoride isn't beneficial for hardening teeth. I, myself, never had a cavity until I stopped using fluoride toothpaste.

I'm from Canada, our medical system isn't in very good shape from my perspective. It is abused and underfunded. I havn't been to the doctor for a year, he's only in it for the money. Every solution he offers requires me to purchase medications. He pressures me to come for weekly visits since the government pays him WAY TOO MUCH for every visit. They charge you $60 for a missed appointment, are you charged for missed appointments?

You know, come to think of it, I've never missed an appointment. There was one time, though, where I called to see if a doctor was available on the same day, and then said I'd come in to see him later in the day.

...Almost immediately after I hung up, I changed my mind and called back to cancel, but they said I'd have to pay a fee for cancelling, even though I JUST made the appointment, not a minute before.

That is some wisdom there. There is too much waste in healthcare, it seems to me especially with the drug companies. I have had two hospital stays less than a day and both were in the 1,000's of dollars and all the medicine I had was benadryl.

Repeal the Health Maintenance Organization Act of 1973, & this could be done by the private sector. Indeed, procedures not covered by the HMO system - such as laser eye surgery - are far cheaper, & mall clinics are very cheap as well. As it stands now, we might as well be requiring car insurance companies to pay for gas.

By doing things in the private sector however, you gain one additional benefit; you eliminate the mother of all middlemen.
