Bobby Fuller was a gambler and was suposedly dating a mafia,s figure daughter as well. The mafia figure did not like bobby fuller. if you look at thr facts of the "suicide" it seems a lot more like a muder made to look like a suicide.
@unknowable1968 I don't know about the "gambler" part, but I agree he was murdered and did not kill himself. I've read a lot about this case and it had to be a murder cover-up, for whatever reason.
The Bobby Fuller Four originated out of El Paso, Tx. According to a former disc jockey, who did an in-depth study of the death of Bobby Fuller, showed that he was overcome by carbon monoxide poisoning from running his car in an enclosed parking garage in Hollywood. It was never proved to be suicide or, most likely, homicide as Bobby had many enemies in the music world.
amazing this guy would kill himself, drinking gasoline no less , it appears he had everything going, i remember hearing that story on the steven clean show in 1976
Obviously. It amazes me that no film has been made of Fuller's life and death or that the LAPD has by now not been forced to reopen the investigation. Strikes me of the power of the music industry in LA...and I am not inclined to conspiracy theories btw. I believe Oswald was the lone gunman. I also believe Fuller was murdered and the LAPD at the behest of the music industry/organized crime (same difference in the 1960s) covered it up
@LTF6161 I agree with you. At the time this was out there was a really strong feeling in my opinion that this song was considered a challenge to the authority of law enforcement and the circumstances of his death give me the creeps to this day. I was only 11 but I remember it like it was yesterday.
Really cool clip! Yeah, those dancers really spice things up, don't they? Back in '65 I played a club called Teen A-Go-Go hehe. We all drank Sloe Gin out of the trunk of my '51 Ford on break - lol. I think I paid more attention to the cute blonde cage dancer than my drums - haha. Regards, The '62 Mathew St. Band (1 Man-Full Group Retro)
No one could put three chords together better than the Bobby Fuller Four. I still have their original vinyl album from 1966. The cover looks pretty bad, but the record sounds great. "If there's a rock 'n roll heaven, well, you know they've got a hell of a band." And, Bobby Fuller would definitely be there.
@Tarn1968: Oh yes. It is so true. What WAS IT about back then?! The chicks back then were just SO FRIGGIN' HOT! Classy is a word that comes to mind. Something that just seems to be taken for granted with today's gals. Classy bods, classy makeup, and classy hair styles, all which made them GORGEOUS. My mom was one of THOSE girls back then, all the guys in school wanted her. But about Mr. Fuller here, what can you say? The BF4 were one of the BEST back in '65/'66.
No way. They were miming to the record, just like all the music on teen dance shows was done back then. I'm not certain, but Hollywood a Go-Go's house band, the Sinners, may have played live.
Yeah, that's what I figured. Those shows didn't have the time, the budget, or the technical facilities to set up and record live performances. Even on the prime-time variety shows like Ed Sullivan, pop music acts would often have only the lead singer performing live to a pre-recorded backing track.
RIP Bob Keane.....he managed the Bobby Fuller Four. He was the founder of Del-Fi Records, and worked with Richie Valens, great surf bands like the Lively Ones, the Impacts, etc.....
antes se bailaba al ritmo de la música , divertida, sana, letras sin maldad , sin violencia verbal , y sin violencia de hechos, era alegre, . hermosas épocas.
If you want to see another hot clip of six-shootin gals, see the movie "Apocalypse Now". A Viet Nam era movie when the guys drop in on a USO show out in the bush. Man, these girls were so sexy. Even more so 'cause the guys rarely saw round eye women with t--s. The girls danced to the song "Suzie Q" by the group Creedence Clearwater Revival.
This is the best song with go-go dancers I've ever seen! I love the song, love Bobby Fuller but MAN, these go-go dancers with their 2 six shooters- that's the best choreography I've ever seen.
@herbajones thank you, herb! yes, I've checked out a website about them... great dance group. after seeing some other routines, I'm convince this was their best... maybe it's the song, too, but those outfits, six shooter and the choreography just all came together in this performance.
Unbeatable song and a dynamic performance. Yep, these go-go girlies are something else : great movement, which changes nicely as the rhythm changes.
The go-go girls on the Bobby Fuller Four clip of their tremendous Los Angeles hit, "Let Her Dance" are quite quite sensational too - the clip was from the TV show "Shivaree", and included their number, "Another Sad and Lonely Night " too. Alas, the clip has been pulled ! Please restore it ! !

Oh, I love the song and the video, I was just responding to...hell, I don't even remember who/what I was responding to! I like The Clash, but their version sucked...Green Day's cover was worse...long live the '60's revolution!
Oh, I love the song & video and I wasn't even alive in the '60's. I was merely responding to...Hell, I don't even rememeber who/what I was responding to. Great song...I like the Clash, but theirversion wasn't that good...Green Day's cover was worse.
the clash did a terrible job on this song they were nothing more than a lot of lousy musicians that could not get it sounding good the studio.joe strummer was an idiotic drunk and all those X gen would not know hard core even if George Jones gave them the real deal headbut.
The Clash are one of the best bands ever. London Calling (the album) is brilliant. And the Clash do a brilliant cover of this song, which I adore. But I think Bobby Fuller did it just a bit better. I doubt Mick Jones or Joe Strummer (RIP) would disagree with this sentiment.
moorlock2003: Conservaturds? Is that a word? If you do the math (which I doubt you can), you'll realize I was born in the early '70's. But, I have enough smarts to know that the '60's baby boomers were the start of our society's morals going downhill. Go get an education and then think about it!
I think the '60's are what ruined our society. I love a lot of the music from that decade, but our society's ideals, morals, ideas, etc. changed and not for the better. All those '60's teenagers (my parents included) had kids who are raising the ill-mannered, self-centered kids of today (except for my kids...ha!).
You're right. Things really started heading south right about when this song came out. Late '66. But it really started going down when Kennedy got blown away late '63. That's when the CIA took over running the show (with disastrous results drugs, wars, etc.) And here we are: Isaiah 3-5 "And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them. The child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, And the people shall be oppressed. Children are their oppressors."
TV is still commercial & corny but the music stood apart. Marketing couldn't sell a bad song. It had a life of its own unlike the corporate & cosmetic slop served up today. This only looks like a lot of empty headed bimbosity & vigilante nonsense. But, now, that's all there is & tunes struggle to compete with the nothingness of Paris Hilton. This country's been on a cultural downslide for 25 years. I'm glad there's a YouTube to remind me of the possibilities & I hope, better times ahead.
It has since been removed, but Wikipedia once referenced that BF's manager was involved with his death. His body was found in his car near his LA home w/multiple wounds and covered in gasoline. The LAPD tossed the gas can found in the car in the trash. Officially his death was listed as a suicide. It was believed that the police arrived before his body could be set on fire.
You have the general idea but not the real story. There is an interesting new book, Rock 'n' Roll Mustangs by Stephen McParland that is carefully researched, not just Internet gossip. It tells Bobby's story within the context of the El Paso and Hollywood music scenes of the Sixties that he was part of.
Hollywood a Go-Go featured the Gazzarri dancers from the famous Gazzarri's club on the Sunset Strip. They were the prettiest go-go girls on TV back then. Just think, they're all 60-year-old grannies now.
Got the girls dressed up to be bad asses but done in a tactful and sexy kind of way. That idea has been modified over the years with some atrocious results--namely by rappers and their stable of bitches and the like.
Many genres of music have their roots firmly entrenched in this type of music and more people should acknowledge that and embrace it.
Open 'Greenday's- holiday' vid in different tab then wait for them to start playing the actual song then open tab with this video and start the vid but mute the sound. Pretty cool and looks like their playing greendays song and go-go girls dancing is even in sync.
i'm so damn upset no one wil re-do this video with go-gos 'n all...i am going to work dressed as one of these go-gos, i am going to honor these go-gos ...wont you!

Great song...I like the Clash, but theirversion wasn't that good...Green Day's cover was worse.
pjmcnemar 2 years ago 3
the clash did a terrible job on this song they were nothing more than a lot of lousy musicians that could not get it sounding good the studio.joe strummer was an idiotic drunk and all those X gen would not know hard core even if George Jones gave them the real deal headbut.

I didn't think punk was supposed to sound good.

u fucking prick the clash are one of the best bands ever u dickhead.
cpj93070 2 years ago
The Clash are one of the best bands ever. London Calling (the album) is brilliant. And the Clash do a brilliant cover of this song, which I adore. But I think Bobby Fuller did it just a bit better. I doubt Mick Jones or Joe Strummer (RIP) would disagree with this sentiment.

There is also a cover by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush who play in a band for the Trailer park boys video

gary93514 2 years ago

moorlock2003: Conservaturds? Is that a word? If you do the math (which I doubt you can), you'll realize I was born in the early '70's. But, I have enough smarts to know that the '60's baby boomers were the start of our society's morals going downhill. Go get an education and then think about it!
pjmcnemar 2 years ago

Just say NO to conservaturds such as yourself. Go back and live in the 1950s then.

Wow, you must really know a lot about everything. Not.

Timeless pop, ace live performance, good sound. And chicks wearing holsters. Life doesn't get any better than this.

Those go-go dancers are gorgeous! Not like today's over hyped, airbrushed, neurotic, ill mannered kids that are pushed by the music industry now.
Ok so it wasn't perfect but times were better then....even allowing for rose tinted glasses:)

Hollywood a Go-Go featured the Gazzarri dancers from the famous Gazzarri's club on the Sunset Strip. They were the prettiest go-go girls on TV back then. Just think, they're all 60-year-old grannies now.
Father Time is a bastard.

How fucking ahead of the time was this cat?
Got the girls dressed up to be bad asses but done in a tactful and sexy kind of way. That idea has been modified over the years with some atrocious results--namely by rappers and their stable of bitches and the like.
Many genres of music have their roots firmly entrenched in this type of music and more people should acknowledge that and embrace it.

Ha ! Try this just 4 for fun
Open 'Greenday's- holiday' vid in different tab then wait for them to start playing the actual song then open tab with this video and start the vid but mute the sound. Pretty cool and looks like their playing greendays song and go-go girls dancing is even in sync.
Hey its late and 'm bored ...OK ???

While I love the Clash and Sonny Curtis, nothing touches the Bobby Fuller version. It epitomizes rock n roll at its finest.
