well wolf has been goin since around 1987. with the release of 9 albums and 15+ singles . id say they have had a great run and i dont think they were "just getting realy great" they've always been great, just less known then now. heppner had alot of side projekts goin aswell. probs about the right time for them to split, alot of bands dnt make it anywhere near how far they've come.
