  • There is a saying I'm sure many people with mental illness identify with - including myself.

" don't blow on someone else's candle in order to make your own burn brighter."

The treatment of the mentally ill is often along those lines and demeaning assessment.

Exercise is a quick fix and not always +ve. It can be the wrong path - believe it or not.

It is wrong to enforce lifestyle choices onto others and call it "help".

    Understanding first - not judgment.

God is love. Love is the answer.

  • the world needs to stop judging us as "not trying hard enough."

They wouldn't tell someone who had cancer to get up off their asses.

Healing of any kind requires space and understanding. It doesn't require judgment and condescension from others. If I hadn't wisdom to do that in my life I wouldn't be here now. Depression has to be healed.

I'm tough and have fought hard and yet depression is an illness I live with everyday. "Depression is not a weakness - it is an illness!!"

    Stay strong....

  • Depression runs deep and I think in some circumstances we grow to it and become comfortable with it, I'm just trying to say its possible to beat I feel ive beaten it through simple things in life such as humor I forced happiness upon myself and it worked, but sometimes I feel myself longing for my previous state of depression but i dont give in. I think us depressed people grow attatched to depression... YOU CAN BEAT IT

  • I wish i could say the same like you, that im winning, but its not like that for me

  • You are amazing :)

    Well done. xx

  • is it ok to throw quarters or paper money instead of pennies, will need a lot of those.

    good luck.

  • Keep it up friend. I know how the battle is hard. Through strength, determination, love, empathy and support you will overcome.

  • Keep fightin' the good fight.

  • I am currently battling depression and every day it steals more and more of my soul.

  • you have balls to do a video like this. respect man , hope you get better soon. keep ya head up

  • I can tell by your face about all the bull**** you went through. Man your a true inspiration, thank you.

  • You are very brave to put up a video as such and be completely honest to the world. I have suffered with severe depression for about 8 years now; lately it has gotten much worse. Your message is very insparational and I wish you good luck in everything in your life.

  • A very good approach to fighting depression!

  • Nice video bro I like your honesty

  • You are a strong man Nick, and an inspiration.

I wish you nothing but the very best life has to offer.

  • Certain foods help fight depression:

Eggs, asparagus, spinach, cabbage, molasses, brown rice, bananas, brocolli, fish, but honey can actually make it worse.

  • Can I ask, out of curiousity, if you performed the ritual this year?

  • I didn't, as I wasn't in Fredericton (and obviously not the bridge). And I was busy with school. But I did get to do the other usual annual tradition that I've had: watching What Dreams May Come.

  • Good for you! I sincerely hope all is well

  • Great video. Very honest.

Healthy eating habits also helps, along with what you mentioned

    I hope all is well

  • good luck, and remember Jesus loves you brother

  • good luck.

  • Thanks Nick, you are awesome.

Keep fighting...know that I, along with many others, are fighting as well.

  • i hope you feel better nick.

  • The battle analogy is apt. To extend that analogy, one can become so good at fighting a battle that its no longer difficult, just some work. Then no longer work, just maintenance. Then no longer maintenance just habit. Then unconscious, conditioned habit. ;)

  • ThatNickGuy28, thank you for putting this up.

A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with clinical depression. I'm very much together these days but I've no idea how I got through it!

Your strength and courage is admirable. Hang in there!

  • Throw those pennies in hard! I wish you peace.

  • Thanks. Trust me, those pennies were thrown DAMN hard.

  • Good idea and good luck.

  • Thank you, I appreciate it.
