  • nobody else is otis redding but taj has them leathery lungs... one of the few people who can do justice to the material....

  • Otis sang it better period.

  • i like it better this way.

  • i prefer Steve Marriott - Humble Pie

  • A most beautiful R & B classic.

  • Otis is the man, but Taj ruled this song! Incredible!

  • @mrhoffame this is not directed to you but just in general. A lot of people seem to think Ottis Reddings sung the original but he did a cover of his own in 1965. O.V. Wright is the original artist and maybe not by far but his is the best.

  • @mano8p Intresting. Never looked into that. I have to search that version out. Thanks for the heads up!

  • @mrhoffame He is not better than Otis

  • @annemarie18121957 No...Taj is not a better artist than Otis by far. Now way! lol. I just think Taj's version of this song is better than Otis's version.

Are you a big Otis fan? If so, and I have not idea where you live, but I recently went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and they have some pieces of Otis's Plane in there. They had the panels that had his name written on it. It was so creepy and so moving to be that close to that.

  • Love this version!

  • private Taj

  • Much as I love Otis Redding, I've got to say that this tops his version. Just fantastic.

  • @SatchmoProductions Stop talking your foolishness! yes this is a very good rendition,,,,,,,but dear one it does not touch the Big "O" version. not even in the ball park....

  • @jollysincere Hey, don't get me wrong, I love Otis- he's my favorite singer. That's what makes this cover so extraordinary in my mind.

  • @SatchmoProductions hahahaha...i must say his rendition does move me, and i'm a 76 year old great-grandmother!!!...in fact next week i'm gonna have one of the grand pick me up a taj mahal cd. i had until now heard of the bloke! cheers Jollysincere.

  • More great music from Taj Maha! You never cease to surprize me with your music. Always great and your soul shines through. Thanks Man!

  • Does anyone know if Taj sings a song about a girl with hairy knees? "if you were my girl, i wouldn't care if you had hair on your knees", something like that.... i heard it once before but i can't remember and i can't find it :(

  • that's how strong my love is for taj and phantoms...

  • heard this song on Boston Legal and have loved it ever since....can't seem to find it being song by Otis Reading...

  • I just got back from hearing mick sing it and I had to switch back to taj. Taj sings with so much feeling and his band rocks.

  • In addition to all these versions of a great song, check out the Dave Specter version as sung by Tad Robinson. I've only found it on "Midnight Blues," a compilation album. It's my favorite, especially the last ten seconds.

  • Obviously, you gotta give props to Otis Reading, but overall I think this is the best version of this song.

  • A great song with a terrific interpretation

  • Ooooooooooh man do i ever love this song thank you, awesome song.

  • ooh ! a big thank you Roolika for this OTIS 's song........Taj Mahal is super

    Bise ........Marie de France

  • Fantastic!

    Great post, thank you!

  • This is a great version but Otis Redding's is still the best.

  • Try OV Wrights version,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • Nice, Steve Youngs version is great too!

  • I agree: great version. Taj Mahal... wonderful voice, rhythm in the blood, blues in the soul... this is a man of music

  • clearly the best version of this song...

  • What do you think of Rolling Stone's version? I like it best!

  • @mananka55

I like the Otis Redding and Stones versions best.
