@rensper 2 months later if you haven't found any decent cathodes, Sound activated cold cathodes on newegg, are only like $15 apiece or so, and non sound activated ones can run as low as $6 or $7 each, so running a setup like his, you won't even spend 50 bucks.
hey nice setup, question, do you no how to hook up a sound controller to led fans! i have like 4 led fans with 4 pin molex connectors, how would i go bout hooking them up to a sound controller? thanks!
Crap song! but what kinda cathodes u got? my sound reactive ones either light up totally when the beat drops or not at all, ures seem to light up halfway depending on the loudness of the bass, looks cool!
hehe yea about that, that took alot of work actually, that all depends on the placement of the controllers, the acoustic dynamics of the area around the cathode, and how prone the area is to vibration, in addition to a good while spent finding the proper sensitivity levels, shoot me a message and i'll give you a fiull layout if ya want
@darklordkruscinick question.... i'm thinking of buying some of the sound sensitive inverters... does the sensitivity knob on the back adjust how LOUD the music has to be for them to come on... or the pitch range that they activate on? i.e. higher sensitivity means the pitch has to be higher for it to be activated...??
Pretty neat, been thinking about putting LEDs in my PC but I wanna know one thing, how is the lights connected? Does it render anything useless (like front audio ports)?
sweet i need something like this, would flash more when my grandpa has a seizure and is screaming and wiggling and crap great way to ensure that inheritance for my next computer case+1
hey i likem alot now my question is when you buy the cathode with the switch is there only 1 12volt plug that comes with it or can u buy additional cathodes and attached orrrrrr do u have to buy them with the switches
@boromir408 the controllers i bought can each power 2 cathodes off a single standard fan connector ( also includes a pass through molex to fan connector in the kit)
Could you add this sound reactive cathodes to a fan controller say sunbeam reohbus and control them.
because you can hook up cathodes to the sunbeam but the only problem is they arnt sound reactive so if i bought a sound reactive cit and hooked it up to that will it be able to work.??
@lilliamXXX you should be able to do that as long as you keep the fan controller at 100%, because then it would jsut be like it was plugged in, below that idk what would happen, since all a fan controller does is give you a variable dial to control how much power goes to the device plugged into it. that being said the effect of lowering the dial would have effects i wouldn't know of, because it doesn't convert it's power directly into the light for the cathode.
haha thats awesome man i got a green xion solaris case with a green led fan but i want a green sound responsive cathrode bad nice vid and nice comp =) 5*
how did you get the cathodes to react to different sound? Like on pulses to base while one pulses to vocals and one pulses to instrumental. How did you do that wiring wise?
pretty much alot of trial and error, and a somewhat broad understanding of sound equipment. i'd be glad to share a few tips and tell how i got these results in full detail in a private message, since the explanation is really long to explain how i got it just right, and i have way too few characters at my disposal in this comment to tell you anything really useful. drop me a pm and i will tell ya everything in a response
That thing will do your vacuuming for you, if you get what I mean. Literally sucks the dust off the carpet. I made that mistake before, had to buy a new heatsink because it was so clogged with dust and debris.
the only fan that low is the one on the front which i have a dust filter on which i do admittedly need to clean quite often., the other fans are higher and have much less dust flow. but the fans are too loud to tolerate right next to my head and it is too heavy for my desk most likely so o the floor it shall live
do you mind telling me how to set those lighting to sensitivity. I just bought this case on ebay (74$ with tax and shipping) Pretty cheap compared to newegg (still love you newegg!!) I was just wonder if you dont mind telling me. XD Thanks bad ass set up too
it's really simple you jsut buy the cathodes and controllers and the controllers come with little knobs and switches on a piece of metal that mounts like an expansion card. after that simply adjust the knobs to your tastes, it will take a little while to get it to a point where you like it on nearly all songs,
tips
- mount them all in uniform places or they won't be right in unison
- make small adjustments when tuning-give 5 seconds to see
I am building my own pc within this month and I can't find anywhere in the UK that sells these sound activated ones? Where can I buy them that either sell in the UK or ship to the UK?
the case is very good in my opinion, plent of room for all your cards and accessories, really good cooling and cheap to boot, the tool less design is really good too that surprised me, it even holds my 2 visiontek hd 3850's in place rock solid. only possible bad thing to say about the case is that the front plastic cover is made of plastic but most are nowadays so i don't really see that as much of an issue, i love this case.
cleaning is easy door fans disconnect and you can move it away adn windex it if it is really really dirty, compressed air or a dry cloth takes care of the rest lol comment was too long for a single comment, but yea i really like it
sound sensitive module. its a power converter/mic for detecting the sound from your speakers. but the music has to be kinda loud for the module to pick it up.
no. you have to buy the cathode lights and then a sound module seperately. You then hook up the sound module, and that has adjusting sensitivity levels.
the 900 is a pretty big case, my bud has a 900 adn he has two blue cathodes mounted vertically kinda like mine except on the actual side of the case so that they can be seen through the window of the case and they generate a pretty good effect. if you are going blue no question get two, if getting green it depends how bright you want it to be but i would still say two they are cheap enough not to be stingy.
How did you make the cathodes reactive to different frequencies? Thanks
