I've seen hundreds of gigs, Zappa, Queen, Clash, Stranglers, Damned, Bowie, Residents, PIL, Ministry, Nick Cave, Fall, Slayer, Nirvana, Melvins, Shellac, Gorillaz... Jesus Lizard was by far the greatest live band I've ever seen. The first gig I saw had David Yow hospitalized after four songs. I caught them 3 more times. Their energy on stage was absolutely minde-blowing, intense, electric, dangerous but also warm and gentle. Thank you Jesus Lizard, the frigging best live band ever on earth!!!

But when Nirvana tried to sound menacing and dangerous they never came close to the Jesus Lizard, whom they seem to have admired a lot. Personally, I find TJL to be a much more interesting and better band, but it would probably not have occurred to me to compare them had they not once shared a 7" before Nirvana were mega-famous.
