These rows are like barbell rows pimp daddy. Difference for anybody that may come across this video. Barbell rows u some what have momentum on ur side. These type u have to pull it up each time. Kinda like a dead lift.
@brownbandito7 if you're doing other work that hits the traps hard, than I would go with the pendlays due to their emphasis on lats, bi's, core, while an angled barbell row hits the traps hard (developing incredible traps) but de-emphasizes the lats and can also possible cause other lifts with trap work not as result friendly.
looking good; this has become my new favorite exercise in the last month. nothing else can make your upper back, rector spinae, glutes, and hams sore all at the same time!
@MATEOTL86 yes i have heard the phrase "beginner" ; how long have you been training? how long have i been training? exactly. by nature Pendlay Rows are not a "beginners" exercise due to the high skill factor
@jacko717 I disagree dude. Beginners can do Pendlay Rows and get good at it with lots of practice, like I did! Started with 10 pounds on each side. Had some weights on the floor to rest the barbell so it can be shin high.
@MATEOTL86 of course i respect your opinion; but personally I would never include Pendlay Rows in a beginners routine; beginners should do multiple sets of 15-20 reps of basic compound movements for a half dozen workouts in order to get used to the movement of the exercise and the feel of the target muscle working. Pendlay Rows are a high skill factor advanced exercise for those with good core strength, the 'risk/reward' for new -starters is too high.
@jacko717 alright so obviously this comment thread happened months ago for you and you probably don't give two shits anymore, but personally i think what you said made sense and these guys seemed like they were raging for no reason
forgot to add; you have great form; most people have their backs somewhat vertical which means the weight is pulling down on their traps; pendlay rows are meant to work the lats
more explosiveness needed going up; you might need to lose some weight if you can't get that explosiveness; think fast twitch on the way up, then support with your lats and shoulders at the peak, then release shoulders and lats slowly down

is the pendlay row better than a barbell row where your back is at a higher angle?

nice form, but much more weight is required. also you should look straight down at the floor to avoid any compression of the cervical spine

@jacko717 Much more weight required? Ever heard of a beginner?!

@jacko717 You know nothing about weight lifting, 15-20 reps are you crazy? Mark Rippetoes would smack the shit out of you for suggesting this.

geishpmp 1 year ago
@geishpmp well actually those are called upright rows or yates rows completely different exercise
ashoka22 9 months ago
@ashoka22 what I'm trying to say is that people post videos with the title Pendlay Row and they have improper form where they are too upright.
I know what yates rows are, and yes, they are meant to train different muscles from Pendlay rows.
geishpmp 9 months ago
@geishpmp pendlay rows are silly anyways risk vs reward there too much risk to the lower back with a result you can get by doing cable rows
