It's perfectly safe and it's best to hand wash it to keep the color in longer.

hehe i remember way back in year 8 when we did textiles and we all had to make a tie...

nearly everyone tie dyed their ties and that meant that there were so many different dies that got mixed together that most of the ties came out grey.

so thats why people dont tie dye their tyes!
