What I really don't understand is how some people are against these topics in schools being taught to children because they compare it with sex education. This is NOT sex education. It is merely educating children about different types of families and relationships. Nothing sexual whatsoever so I really don't see how it is inappropriate to discuss with children. Sex education is talking graphically about peoples' bits and pieces and what they do with them. I loved the kid at the end!

I would be pissed if they were to try to teach my daughter about homo or hetro sexuality, at that age. It is not up to the school to teach children about sexuality. It is a decision parents should have to make. If the school wants to assist, then it should be up to the parents discretion as to the amount of help that should be given by the schools.

We talk to kids about a lot of different things, whether it's accepting other children of a different race or accepting that one kid on the bus who eats paste. Every individual who is involved in education needs to see these videos. Homosexuality is a topic that largely gets overlooked in public schools. By doing so, we are doing our students a disservice. Teaching children about homosexuality is about them being provided with the CORRECT information such as what homosexuality really is (not necessarily in terms of sex, but in terms of relationships and love), which terms that are incorrect and offensive, and dispelling the myths and stereotypes.

I am a gay Christian, and while that may contradict your theology, it does not contradict mine. This has nothing to do with theology in general, it's what the Bible clearly states, at least in the English language. Homosexuality is called a sin just as lying, drunkenness, murder, adultery or any other sin is. It's not a worse sin, but certainly a sin nonetheless.

They were written by two saints, neither of which became saints for having contact with God. The letters were newsletters, it was their personal, human opinion and thus fully susceptible to cultural bias. Saints aren't perfect. Romans and Corinthians got included not because God back them but because the Council of Carthage did.

Some say the english translation is not correct concerning homosexuality. That may or may not be, but it's inconclusive. If it is correct, it's quite clear tho.

@TheGageTaylor By that logic gay marriage would be Christian so long as those marriages were celibate. There is a naturalistic explanation for homosexuality. In addition to helping to controlling our population it provides couples to take care of the orphans and help share the load. In addition homosexuality can be observed in just about every species that has sex for procreation. Homosexuality is natural. It would be foolish to think that humans are somehow exempt from that trend.
@CyraEm I don't see why in the Bible it would say in romans 1:26-27 "... for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another.." if homosexual acts are natural why does the Bible say otherwise? I do not agree with gay marriage, but yes in that logic I would be more apt to vote for it, if I knew they were not having sex but simply loved one another in agape love.
@TheGageTaylor The bible is not exempt from the prejudices of its time, whether it was divinely inspired or not. Having truth at its core doesn't mean that the people writing it weren't embelleshing and elaborating with their own opinions. And that's what it seems like Romans I and II were. Embellishments with a bit of god in them.

@CyraEm I respect your right to that opinion, but doesn't that make it out to be a product of society? I'd rather believe God put the words into the pens that people wrote with, otherwise why believe in any religion at all? If the Bible is all we have as a map toward truth, and it has flaws of man in it, then why should I believe in it? I personally choose to believe it's God's influence on society rather than reversed. Personally I find it beautiful when I see religious patterns because no matter what we do or where we are every human society has some form of religion. We crave it, we seek it, we invent it if we have to. To think of the Bible as the culmination of the most devout people's work is rather inspiring to me. It's like, this is what we've made and it is intricate and wonderful. This represents us.

Here is this story, this set of morals, this higher being and we've been given the sense and rationalizing capabilities to undermine it if we want to, cast doubts on it if we want to. We can choose not to believe it if we want to. But the truly devout person puts their faith into their God and embraces the flaws for what they're worth. The truly devout person chooses God over absolute proof. And that's what's great about it. We choose him.

I personally don't agree with homosexuality due to what I read in the Bible, and I see no reason to discontinue faith in the Bible yet, but I am not going to bash them or think less of them. I may see being gay as a sin, but a person is a person to me, and gay is only one aspect of them. I won't vote for them to marry due to my values, but I will certainly fight for them when they are bullied.

What I really don't understand is how some people are against these topics in schools being taught to children because they compare it with sex education. This is NOT sex education. It is merely educating children about different types of families and relationships. Nothing sexual whatsoever so I really don't see how it is inappropriate to discuss with children. Sex education is talking graphically about peoples' bits and pieces and what they do with them. I loved the kid at the end!

I doubt that you would be against teaching tolerance on those levels, so why is it so different on this level? I'm not saying I was organizing gay pride rallies on the playground in second grade, but I knew what gay people were and I was making my mind up about them, just like I was making my mind up about a lot of things. When someone is gay, they usually know from a very young age, and if there are gay children, then all the children are already faced with homosexuality in their daily lives. I like to think they accept it when given the choice.

@NoGuff While I do admit to the infuriatring trend of people in their twenties feigning homosexuality because it is in vogue, this in no way disproves the existence of gay people. A lot just end up in denial, mostly because of the environment they grew up in. And you're not counting bisexuals, who can go the majority of their lives dating the opposite sex and just not exploring that side of themselves until much later.

@NoGuff No, being gay is about love. Sex is deeply involved in love, but it's not the whole thing. Gay people love those of their own gender, and their sexual attraction is symptomatic. They want the same things you do for their lives. White picket fence, two kids and a dog. They just want a different gender. One insignificant difference that people like you are blowing out of proportion.
All relationships are natural. And I've seen a lot of gay kids holding hands.

We should be integrating positive gay role models in the curriculum, as well as being positive role models and no longer turning a blind eye to bullying related to homosexuality! Every individual who is involved in education needs to see these videos. Homosexuality is a topic that largely gets overlooked in public schools. By doing so, we are doing our students a disservice. Teaching children about homosexuality is about them being provided with the CORRECT information such as what homosexuality really is (not necessarily in terms of sex, but in terms of relationships and love), which terms that are incorrect and offensive, and dispelling the myths and stereotypes.

If you never let them speak their minds because, "they're children and can't assess and think critically" you fulfill your own statement because you never give them a chance to develop that part of themselves, and they become adults who repeat others' opinions as their own.

I was lucky enough to have supportive ones....not always the case unfortunately. Also what adversity are you talking about? Sorry, It's just I don't think you grasp what Homosexuality is at all. You CAN be homosexual without having had sex with one from the same sex. And teaching your kids acceptance is NOT going to make them gay...it will make them Christian.

I am a gay Christian, and while that may contradict your theology, it does not contradict mine. I am a Christian, but I have more in common theologically with some liberal Muslims than with some fundamentalist Christians. Christianity is not the same for every person, every church, and you do not speak for all of us.

@CyraEm that's fine and dandy, and I don't doubt you might personally have a love for the Christ you believe in, but think it over seriously: what do you say when you read 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 and Romans 1:26-27? This has nothing to do with theology in general, it's what the Bible clearly states, at least in the English language. Homosexuality is called a sin just as lying, drunkenness, murder, adultery or any other sin is. It's not a worse sin, but certainly a sin nonetheless.

@TheGageTaylor This is a rather unpopular position and I may get an internet beatdown, but Romans and Corinthians are not the divine inspired word of God. They were written by two saints, neither of which became saints for having contact with God. The letters were newsletters, it was their personal, human opinion and thus fully susceptible to cultural bias. Saints aren't perfect. Romans and Corinthians got included not because God back them but because the Council of Carthage did.

I eat shellfish as well despite a strict forbiddance in Leviticous, and I lend money despite the several edicts against it in the New Testament. Things change, and the religion that refuses to do so gets forgotten.

@CyraEm That may be true, and you are entitled to your interpretation of the Bible, but I believe it's pretty black and white if in the New Testament Paul, who is said to have been inspired by the Holy Spirit when he wrote his epistles, said that neither liars, adulterers, drunkards, homosexuals, and etc will inherit the kingdom of God. Some say the english translation is not correct concerning homosexuality. That may or may not be, but it's inconclusive. If it is correct, it's quite clear tho.

@CyraEm having said that, if the New Testament values and lifestyles that were expected to be lived outwardly and inwardly by the Christian are not valid for today, we had better write ourselves another New Testament for today, because it's "passed on" like the Old Testament, correct? Thing is, testaments pass on, but God's natural design for orderly living was made for our benefit and does not change. God made sex pleasurable, but quite clearly it's for procreation. One CAN love without sex..

In addition to helping to controlling our population it provides couples to take care of the orphans and help share the load. In addition homosexuality can be observed in just about every species that has sex for procreation. Homosexuality is natural. It would be foolish to think that humans are somehow exempt from that trend.

@CyraEm I don't see why in the Bible it would say in romans 1:26-27 "... for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another.." if homosexual acts are natural why does the Bible say otherwise? I do not agree with gay marriage, but yes in that logic I would be more apt to vote for it, if I knew they were not having sex but simply loved one another in agape love.

@TheGageTaylor The bible is not exempt from the prejudices of its time, whether it was divinely inspired or not. Having truth at its core doesn't mean that the people writing it weren't embelleshing and elaborating with their own opinions. And that's what it seems like Romans I and II were. Embellishments with a bit of god in them.
On a side note, I just want to say how much I appreciate being able to have a polite discussion about this in the comments. It's rare and refreshing. : )

I'd rather believe God put the words into the pens that people wrote with, otherwise why believe in any religion at all? If the Bible is all we have as a map toward truth, and it has flaws of man in it, then why should I believe in it? I personally choose to believe it's God's influence on society rather than reversed. @TheGageTaylor It's interesting to look at us from an anthropological viewpoint and see the patterns. Personally I find it beautiful when I see religious patterns because no matter what we do or where we are every human society has some form of religion. We crave it, we seek it, we invent it if we have to. To think of the Bible as the culmination of the most devout people's work is rather inspiring to me. It's like, this is what we've made and it is intricate and wonderful. This represents us.

Here is this story, this set of morals, this higher being and we've been given the sense and rationalizing capabilities to undermine it if we want to, cast doubts on it if we want to. We can choose not to believe it if we want to. But the truly devout person puts their faith into their God and embraces the flaws for what they're worth. The truly devout person chooses God over absolute proof. And that's what's great about it. We choose him.

I personally don't agree with homosexuality due to what I read in the Bible, and I see no reason to discontinue faith in the Bible yet, but I am not going to bash them or think less of them. I may see being gay as a sin, but a person is a person to me, and gay is only one aspect of them. I won't vote for them to marry due to my values, but I will certainly fight for them when they are bullied.

And out of the entire Bible, there are only a few verses that mention homosexuals, but for some reason, those are the only ones people pay attention to.
