umm, the pinky finger ins't so important as the thumb. if you lose you're thumb you lose 90% of grip modes and mobility, while loosing the pinky it reduces you to just 10%. so no biggie.
Free energy has been here all along ,But there are very powerfull forces that want to supress the technology,Get the blueprints for a real Magnet motor free enegy machine at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,take part in the revolution!
Does the VA cover this item? I lost the fifth finger on my right hand in the Navy. I lost my finger at the proximal phalanx (I think that is what it was called) and I have just a small portion of bone, approx 5-8 mm protruding from the knuckle, though it appears that there is no finger at all. I wonder though, as I did 20 years ago when I first lost it, would such a prosthetic get in the way more than help?
Hey David, I'm currently studying prosthetics and orthotics in college, we've seen the blueprints for this thing and even did a case study on it. The MINIMUM "stub length" for any non-robotic prosthetic finger is at least 10mm,depending on age and height. Unfortunately due to the law of the lever, a 5 or 6mm stub just can't generate the leverage to activate the mechanism effectively. And as the x finger is currently still in development, VA wouldn't cover it I don't think
@BitsInAByte Thanks for the response on this. I do get along fine for the most part without the finger. Typing is sometimes awkward and catching things in the right hand took some getting used to . I think a device like this would actually get in the way more that it would help.
Great invention... so practical for people who may have lost a digit, or were born with mal formed digit.. Also may be interesting as a augments for people with short fingers how may need the extra resources that longer finger provide, like playing a piano or certain jobs. They may also be employed as gloves on soldiers withe retractable ultra strong, sharp, and light weight retractable blades for combat.. perhaps with power assist to increase finger strength.

Love technology; I depend on it a lot since I am partly machine. Within ten years many of us will be part mechanical for one reason or another, it's inevitable.
consider this... if cars are essentially mechanical prosthetics for human transportation, augmenting what human legs can do. And that car transport has become essential for livelyhood, then we may already be a majority of humans relying on machines as parts of us. That doesn't even factor in the scores of people using glasses, contact lenses and partial or full dentures, which allow people to see and eat.
They need to adjust his finger, it looks like its broken, but nice X-Finger technology, I wish my hand got chopped off so they would build somthing that connects to your nerves and you would have an X-hand!
I agree, even though it is awesome... they may fine tune it be doing some adjustment on the finger alignment. And why not... why not make the alignment more naturally balanced with the other fingers.. it is minor task relative to the building of the finger and may also provided for over all, less maintenance on the finger as well.
I agree, it is definitely progress in a good way. Future prothetic fingers will probably have enhanced tip sensing... on another note.. the person could have a different finger that is a bit longer an with greater girth... and perhaps with some fibration capability for ... uh... hemmm... sexually pleauring thier partner.. or perhaps themself... just a thought.
This is awesome. Truly. I lost only the tip of my little finger. I can type and have sensation on the end. I have adjusted. At first it felt like I was touching things with the side of my little finger. Cause it was the side that was wrapped to cover the bone end. Xfinger is not perfect but its as close and you can get to the real thing. Bravo!!! perhaps a more flexible "skin" sheath?
Ranger, you should see these when 10 fingers are needed. Until these devices, there were only non functional, rubber fingers. This is a huge step for finger amputees even if you do not think so.
So are you saying that all amputees do is play golf (or at least work on their swing) and make cocktails when they are not busy typing on their computers, counting to five or impatiently waiting... Seriously, good luck with this invention. It may help many people.
Respect for the inventors. They might work on the camoflague a bit more but the functionality is great. I wonder why US people call everything X-something... :)
Hello Sternkern, my name is Dan Didrick and I invented the X-Finger. Thank you for your kind words. PS. I cannot answer why others use "X" for everything. The reason I used it, was due to the reciprocally and transversely interconnected components of the design. In its most basic form, the components all form crisscross patterns resembling the letter X.
Thank you for the detailed answer, wishing you a great success. bet this will help countless people. Could you tell us about the cost-efficency (price) and the availability outside the US? Thanks in advance!
I am currently negotiating a deal to distribute the devices to more than 140 nations. I am sure they will be appropriately priced for every economic region. As I am the manufacturer, I wholesale my devices to any licensed practitioner, but their price varies depending on their location. Our devices are actually less expensive than some silicone cosmetic fingers that offer no function.
Hi, i miss a peace of three fingers and I don't need nothing to do anything, I have a 100% functionality. It could be great if was posible do an X-finger with human skin or something that means real becouse the ugly stump is the the unique thing that I bother me, nothing more.

The typing bit is a joke. you can see him pressing like 3 keys at once with that clumsy thing.

Yeah, he can't really type 100%, but it's still pretty good at other things that amputees probably missed being able to do.
