i have this phone it is great but you can use a mirror thing you have to hold in the camera button when it is closed and use the touch screen play button and like fastforward and reqind to take the pictre or record a video so it does have one its just different than most phones
By chance can you tell me how large the text inbox is? I have an older samsung and only holds about 30 messages before it starts telling me its full. Very annoying. Thanks
Yes you can send them to your email if you have internet service. Try plugging your phone in, then seeing if a new icon pops up in "My Computer". If not, you might have to enable all hidden files and folders, which you can do with a simple google search.

The plastic cover of charger seems weak when opened,,feels like it's going to come off anytime,matter of fact i'm considering removing that cover myself,,,would that be ok u think?

I got the Gleam last week, I'm happy with it, but I have a question.
Anyone else with the Gleam have their MP3's ever play extremely loud? I replaced my first phone because of this and my second does the same, it only happens randomly and then I shut it off and it'll go back to normal...but it is annoying.
Like any phone, there are options that will drain the battery which you can shut off. It should last a little more than a day. If thats a problem then definitely invest in an extended battery, and make sure not to get a cheap knock off. 9 times out of 10 they are pure junk.
There's just certain options which generally help for any phone. For example make the duration for the backlighting of the screen and the keypad about 5 seconds. And try to turn off the service led's. Also the living wallpaper will drian the battery faster than using a normal wallpaper.
I originally got the LG VX8550 (Chocolate) but I don't like it, it is way too sensitive and the keyboard is too small. I'm deciding between the Gleam and the LG VX8350. I just want a reliable phone that I can trust. Do you think I should go with the Gleam?
i have owned this phone for six months now, worst cell phone i have ever had. when i first got it it was cool the living walpaper was neat and the battery was good. now i get like no reception anywhere. it turns off every hour and takes atleast 5 minutes to turn back on. the battery lasts a good ten hours when i dont use it...if i send more than 100 texts i lose over half of the life. i would not recomend this phone to anyone...i still gotta live with it for one and a half more years!!

Well it just so happened I had a micro SD card, so you might have to buy it separately. And no, you do not need any special programs or junk to be able to put songs on it. It is very simple.

I was thinking about getting this phone and was wondering if there was a usb cable you could buy to sync music to it from windows media player. I don't have a media card reader on my computer and was hoping the phone had the capabilities to sync music with a cable. If anyone knows thanks in advance.
It requires a specific cable. Verizon sells the cable with software in a package for about 40.00. For that amount you could buy an external card reader for your PC. Your choise.
I just ordered this phone online and i as well got the 100 dollar credit, but for me it came out to be free after all the online discounts and the credit, cant wait to get it in. heard nothing but good things about it. this however is the first time i heard about there not being a flash or self portrait thing on it but watever it not that important to me. i had one question however, the bluetooth features on this phone, do they allow for file transfers? for exampl, music transfers from my laptop
I couldn't exactly tell what you said about the camera but it kinda sounded like you said it didn't have a self-portrait veiwer and if that is what you said then it does.
I felt like it was an E815 because it is relatively the same size, except thinner. I recommend going to your nearest Verizon Wireless store and giving it a test drive. Its very simple to use like the E815, thats why I feel they are practically cousins.

Well, the gleam came out more than a few months ago, so you might want to wait for the new line of phones which I believe are coming out very soon. If you are in dier need of a new flip phone without all the bells and whistles of a true camera phone, then I would recommend the Gleam. Remember, the camera is good, but without a flash its not spectacular in the dark.
Oh I saw espresso, I liked that one. But what I meant to say is that can you take the gauges off the main screen background? (maybe that is part of espresso, I don't know haha)
Well I am pretty sure (from what I remember) that there is a much more toned down version of the live wallpaper. Its like 1 gauge compared to the 3 or 4 normal ones. If you want to you can change the background. I am not totally sure if you can take the gauges off, becuase I havent had the phone for over 1month. Sorry man.
Yeah I had the E815, which was the greatest phone I ever had. I am actually currently using the LG Venus, which is awesome to(not using the gleam because I was given a new phone!). Get the venus if you have the money,otherwise stick with the gleam. I love it.

Well good question. It is most likely just one of this things that was just not included on the phone. I don't believe its camera is the highlight of the phone, so it wasnt given much attention/options. And if it was to have perfect options, it would decrease the value of their other phones. And that my friend, is not good business!

I am next to positive you can change that clock to a 24hr clock. All phones allow you to do that. It is in settings. As for zooming, the phone has a digital zoom. Im sure if you really play around with all the options you will be able to find it. Editing pictures is really meant to be done on the computer, thats why there arent many camera options. As for sending pics, why send when you can simply put them on an SD card and transfer them to your computer?
Im pretty sure that once the music player is started, it must be opened to listen to music. There might be some type of setting to change it, but as far as I know there is only one setting.

Absolutely you can take the gauges off, you can also leave the living wallpaper on with just the time gauge. You can put just a regular wallpaper on it without the ugly red and white Verizon Font on the top of the screen. Texting is easy and flawless for me. The phone is the NICEST flipping phone I have ever had. Its quality all around. BTW: Samsung makes the best tv's on Earth, I think they know what they're doing!
Yes you can put video as a wallpaper. You can also put them on the outside. The outside LCD also has the option for the Samsung Clock, which is a black background with yellow Roman Numerals.
VX8700 wasnt rated that great. I thought about getting it but I cant stand the slanted time look (althought it can be changed in the settings). And I think the outside mp3 controls are pretty nice. And this is so much smoother and sexier. But it is up to you.
I'm looking forward to your other phone presentations. This was one was a well done presentation. I'm having a hard time choosing my phone. Gleam, Venus, or the voyager.

I noticed in your vid you stated it doesnt have a self portrait option. Try holding down the camera button for 3 secs while the phone is closed.

I do have a few questions though, when you bought the phone did it come with a cord to connect it to your comp, or do you have to buy it seperate?

Self Portrait MIRROR, it is a little silver dot next to the camera. Using the outside LCD as a self portrait mirror is also an option though.

Oh I saw espresso, I liked that one. But what I meant to say is that can you take the gauges off the main screen background? (maybe that is part of espresso, I don't know haha)

Well I am pretty sure (from what I remember) that there is a much more toned down version of the live wallpaper. Its like 1 gauge compared to the 3 or 4 normal ones. If you want to you can change the background. I am not totally sure if you can take the gauges off, becuase I havent had the phone for over 1month. Sorry man.

Yeah I had the E815, which was the greatest phone I ever had. I am actually currently using the LG Venus, which is awesome to(not using the gleam because I was given a new phone!). Get the venus if you have the money,otherwise stick with the gleam. I love it.

i've got a question, does the whole shiny "gleam" deal get in the way if your out in the sun. is it still usable in sunny areas is my question actually. thanks ruoken, other wise this thing looks awesome!

Well, the sun factor really plays in with any phone. Granted it is shiny, but I don't think you will have any drastic problems.

Well good question. It is most likely just one of this things that was just not included on the phone. I don't believe its camera is the highlight of the phone, so it wasnt given much attention/options. And if it was to have perfect options, it would decrease the value of their other phones. And that my friend, is not good business!

you can you just have to change the resolution. the resolution the phone is set on doesnt allow you to zoom but the other ones do

i bought this phone and there are a couple of things i couldn't figure out..
1-i can't manage to switch it to 24-hr clock
2-i can't zoom in/out while taking pics
3-i can't zoom in/out while viewing pics in My Pictures
4-i can't send pics to my computer without compressing size
(so what's the point of increasing resolution?)

I am next to positive you can change that clock to a 24hr clock. All phones allow you to do that. It is in settings. As for zooming, the phone has a digital zoom. Im sure if you really play around with all the options you will be able to find it. Editing pictures is really meant to be done on the computer, thats why there arent many camera options. As for sending pics, why send when you can simply put them on an SD card and transfer them to your computer?

2-when i go to camera it has a little cross sign over the zoom selector
4-i don't have an sd card..on my old phone i didn't need to do this

2- when you have the camera on the highest resolution you can't zoom, but you can on lower ones
4- i haven't gotten my computer and phone to bluetooth pair yet, but when you send a pic through pix/txt messaging yeah, it compresses it. =^/

Im pretty sure you can use the mp3's that have been bought through the phone for ringtones, not put on through the mini sd card slot.

Im pretty sure that once the music player is started, it must be opened to listen to music. There might be some type of setting to change it, but as far as I know there is only one setting.

Absolutely you can take the gauges off, you can also leave the living wallpaper on with just the time gauge. You can put just a regular wallpaper on it without the ugly red and white Verizon Font on the top of the screen. Texting is easy and flawless for me. The phone is the NICEST flipping phone I have ever had. Its quality all around. BTW: Samsung makes the best tv's on Earth, I think they know what they're doing!

Yes you can put video as a wallpaper. You can also put them on the outside. The outside LCD also has the option for the Samsung Clock, which is a black background with yellow Roman Numerals.

VX8700 wasnt rated that great. I thought about getting it but I cant stand the slanted time look (althought it can be changed in the settings). And I think the outside mp3 controls are pretty nice. And this is so much smoother and sexier. But it is up to you.
