  • Continuing on revolvers have long been replaced in American law enforcement since the

    late 1980's/early 1990's. Back in the 1970's Glocks, Sig-Sauers, Beretta M-9/92-S semi-autos

etc. didn't even exist and were unheard of. How times have changed! Police technology included has changed drastically since the 60's and 70's. Police officers had to either type

or hand write daily reports. Now police cruisers have computer lap tops. DNA crime detection

didn't exist in the 1970's either.

  • While a police explorer scout via the Klamath Falls, Oregon P.D. back in 1975-76 I knew

several officers who carried a Colt Python .357 Magnum 4" revolver. The others had either

a K-Frame Smith and Wesson Model 19 .357 Combat Magnum with 4" or 6" barrel, and two

carried the heavier N-Frame Smith and Wesson Model 28 Highway Patrolman with 4" barrel.

I also was acquanited with a Southern Pacific Railroad (now Union Pacific) Special Agent who carried a Colt Diamonback .38 Special 4" revolver.

  • They just don't make em like they used to. I'll take those things any day over any polymer semi auto.

  • Two people are jealous of your two beautiful revolvers.

  • Thank–you: Fine and memorable advice. They really are beautiful designs. The wood on the Diamondback handle, is either lit differently; or looks more of a walnut colour. The bluing is extraordinary at the rugged surface of such a pragmatic vision of a firearm. An obvious objet for the Museums of the future. Aesthetic pleasure and the Machine Age, this firearm reminds me of the intensified design environment in the 1970 film 'The Conformist' dir. by Bernardo Bertolucci. Thanks again for the look.

  • Quick question - would a Python and a Diamondback use the same holster? I need to buy a holster without test fitting it... Any info would be most helpful.

  • @mrrcrogersjr Best advice would be to contact Colt themselves. I'm sure they can help answer that question.

  • Awsome review. Getting older and having trouble with the auto slides, so now I think its time to go back to the basics ie. revolvers. I have always loved the look and feel of the Diamondback. Hope I can find one.

  • I'm sure you're proud of your firearms.

  • great review, and that gun is gorgeous

  • Hi Mike, hope I'm wrong saying that we share common interests... Ham radio (K1MRI) and shooting guns ! Im' new to shooting but a trained ham radio operator :-) Shooting .22LR, .38WC and .357MAG for now... I dream about a beautiful Colt Python .357 unfired (impossible to find) and the Anaconda in .44MAG but I have to wait for months or years to locate it ! The Diamondback looks pretty sexy, for sure a valuable gun, collector's item ! Cheers and best regards from Belgium, 73, Eric de ON6CV.
