The co-pilot, a 24 yr old female was at the controls for the landing according to the accident investigation. The pilot took control of the airplane in time to avoid a crash, performed a missed approach and landed safely.
@happyninslave Ummmm that was a bitchin crosswind that caused the wingstrike. Had you seen the whole approach - this is only part of it - you'd have seen the skill of the man. No mistake made. You can't get away from Mother Nature. Hats of to the pilot.
@happyninslave no he didnt, there was an extreemly strong crosswind and the plane was very near to crashing a lot in that landing and this is proof that americans or wherever u come from are idiots twat!
@happyninslave I disagree. Watch the rudder and ailerons. The pilot applied left rudder at the last minute and right roll (both normal procedure). The approach looked stable, and the pilot made the correct control inputs, but rarely gusts are so strong that full control input cannot counteract what they do to the plane. Strong crosswind landings are commonplace and generally safe. I think this was a severe gust at the worst moment with a quick recovery. No major mistake. No need for insults. :o)
@happyninslave Are you 35 or 10 years old? Europeans aint anymore idiots than americans.we are all human beeings!!!! @happyninslave Idiot. I am Mexican and I was in Germany at the time, the Orkan was very strong, it cut many trees disrupting the D-Bahn. @lookvidz Ya think?? Thanks for pointing out the obvious. I'm sure otherwise everyone here would have believed I am pilot just because I said an airplane has wings. So sad some people are deficient in being able to identify sarcasm. I am also a mechanic because I can tell you a car has 4 wheels.
Not readily admitted is that during the first approach, the First Officer - A WOMAN was the one who nearly tanked the plane. Second attempt the Pilot - a man, landed the plane.
@Knepperify1 Does it really matter whether the pilots were women or men?! What's correct is that a *better* pilot took over the controls. The gender of the pilots may make for a funny joke, but it's entirely irrelevant and frankly sexist.
I don't care if you think that a fact or the truth is sexist.
-
The fact is that Female Pilots have a statistically measurable difference in performance - to the negative.
But because this reality is not Politically Correct, or considered sexist by rigid anti-intellectuals such as yourself, no one allows themselves to think it, say it, or act upon it.
-
When you make the truth unspeakable due to political concerns, you are on the side of tyranny and lies.
@Knepperify1 Please show me evidence that there is a "statistically measurable difference in performance" to the negative with female airline pilots.
It's a serious allegation and I would be interested in seeing the hard numbers before I could continue this dicussion further. If the evidence is there, then I would be interested in seeing if any other correlations exist in order to further understand any reasons for why. (e.g. women pilots are newer thus have less overall experience, age, etc.)
Male pilots flying general aviation (private) aircraft in the United States are more likely to crash due to inattention or flawed decision making.while ***female pilots are more likely to crash from mishandling the aircraft***
These are the results of a study by researchers at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health.
========
I would rather fly with someone who can fly but may err in judgement, than someone who cannot fly and can also err in judgement.
Ya know, sometime the guy or gal sitting next to you just up and does something totally novel. And sometime it's a bitch sorting things out afterward. A good driver could have pulled a landing out of the hat in those conditions but it would never have been pretty or terribly pleasant in the back. I bet you she's still wearing some sort of nickname for this performance. Her first name + Regenpfeifer would have been my choice.
Co-pilot landed the aircraft in extreme crosswind at the limit for the type. Strong gust just before landing. The co-pilot does good job, but as the main wheels hit the tarmac the computer switches from flight mode to ground mode. This overrides rudder authority and crosswind takes over. Pilot takes over. Subsequent safe landing on another runway. Pilot and co-pilot both commended for skill, Airbus recommended to modify computer program to defer ground mode. Truth is out there.
@mr2kat NO WAY.... Those pilots should be fired. I'm a pilot myself... Lucky I wasn't on that plane.. I would have punched them both in the mouth for not going to another airport.... Those crosswinds were not last minute.. NO such thing....
@riverlifeva No, since you wrote Death to America, I just took a guess that you were not from America :S So, what's the thoughts behind writing that then?
I can say I flew an airbus a320 last fall to Orange county on Frontier Airlines, and I flew on an MD 80 just a few weeks ago with American Airlines, I can clearly say the old MD80, that by the way was 16 years old and in impeccable condition, was far more comfortable than the Airbus. If this is the best, Airbus needs to keep trying .....
@kieran2720 We've always built the best planes and your continent has been responsible for two world wars. Facts speak for themselves. Have a nice day, sunshine.
@SenorSpode I was talking about the allies, and you proved my point. We went to war with the Germans and the Nazis, that was the point. You assumed I was talking about the Germans starting two wars.. No, I disagree with that, they shouldn't have.
Besides the point. unbelievable how a video about a landing aircraft has gone so off-topic.
@oldsal30 You're making the wrong comparison: both the 767 and 747 are widebodies. Large aircraft. The A320 is a much smaller narrowbody. Widebodies are always quieter than narrowbodies on the inside. If you want to compare, compare the A320 to the 737, the A330 to the 767 and the A340 or A380 to the 747. You'll then notice that in each case, the Airbus is actually the quietest one.
i thought the natzes never make mistakes.. you fuck around in a heavy cross wind and it will bite you ... i dont care whos flying..., also his speed was way to hot..very foolish.. those guys knew better... i bet alot of paper work one done on that one.. suspension also...the capo calls the shots so he should take most of the blame..oh yeah lots of landing school too......
the only thing that explains this is that it's an airbus dealing with crosswinds and not a boeing, and jets are not supposed to have joystics. And no, I am not american
@Libanass You mean crosswinds may have contributed to this and not the fact that it was a woman at the controls like someone else suggested?? Who would have thunk it!!!!!!
If the plane had crashed, how many would have survived? Perhaps all, but some may have had an out of body experience, like mine...youtube.com/watch?v=HF15T30xCPc
I never believed in these, until it happened to me.
your an idiot. you start the video by pictures and then you end it by not showing the whole clip of the plane trying to land(only part of it) and also, you throw close captioning when we do get to see the acually clip. u suck
The burning question in my mind is why the pilot carried through with a bad approach for so long. Not that the adverse crosswind wasn't in play, trying to hit the runway after that far off center probably is a mistake that pilot won't soon repeat.
@SAMCAMJAIK1 You didn't? The only Airbus I've seen that didn't have that exact style of winglet was a certain model A340, which had poor excuses for 747-400-like winglets. Sorry excuses, like the rest of the planes.
@SenorSpode I'm sick of the ignorant comments of US fanatics like you. FYI, winglets were invented in Europe, as were many other aeronautical innovations, like jet engines, flaps and slats. The whole idea behind Airbus was to combine all aeronautical genius in Europe and push for innovation and refinement. I think Boeing finds Airbus a force to be reckoned with, or else why does the 777 have FBW like the A320, and the advanced airfoil (part of it supercritical) like every airbus since the A300?
PROBABLY CAUSED BY STRONG CROSS WINDS AND WIND SHEAR.THIS CAN HAPPEN T O THE BEST AND MOST EXPERIENCED PILOTS. WE CAN,T CONTROL THE SUDDEN CHANGE IN WIND DIRECTION.
I am an Aerospace engineering student. Airbus doesn't suck. Airbus has some brilliant engineers from TU Graz and TU Delft who know their shit. In fact, the airbus wing's stability derivative is a few points higher than boeing's on average over their aircraft fleet.
Well no, a 737 wouldn't be more unstable. I'm just talking with respect to the main wings and their quarter chords. There simply is no way of gauging whose aircraft is more stable under any condition. They are commercial airliners after all and designed for stability and comfort. EADS is a fantastic parent company and they come through with great engineering practice. Airbus and Boeing actually help each other occasionally, too.
@rustlerboi1052 yeah I understand what you'r saying, I'd have to say I do like airbus but I don't like how the controls are not phisicaly connected to the pilot.
Now if that pilot was drunk it would have been a smooth landing.

@Knepperify1 Does it really matter whether the pilots were women or men?! What's correct is that a *better* pilot took over the controls. The gender of the pilots may make for a funny joke, but it's entirely irrelevant and frankly sexist.
Spudst3r 8 months ago
@Spudst3r
-
I don't care if you think that a fact or the truth is sexist.
-
The fact is that Female Pilots have a statistically measurable difference in performance - to the negative.
But because this reality is not Politically Correct, or considered sexist by rigid anti-intellectuals such as yourself, no one allows themselves to think it, say it, or act upon it.
-
When you make the truth unspeakable due to political concerns, you are on the side of tyranny and lies.
Knepperify1 8 months ago
@Knepperify1 Please show me evidence that there is a "statistically measurable difference in performance" to the negative with female airline pilots.
It's a serious allegation and I would be interested in seeing the hard numbers before I could continue this dicussion further. If the evidence is there, then I would be interested in seeing if any other correlations exist in order to further understand any reasons for why. (e.g. women pilots are newer thus have less overall experience, age, etc.)
Spudst3r 8 months ago
@Spudst3r

Truth is out there.
mr2kat 8 months ago
@mr2kat NO WAY.... Those pilots should be fired. I'm a pilot myself... Lucky I wasn't on that plane.. I would have punched them both in the mouth for not going to another airport.... Those crosswinds were not last minute.. NO such thing....
ricramey2000 8 months ago
I'm a pilot too and there ARE such things as "last minute crosswinds". Although, about this particular case, I don't know if it applies.

SenorSpode 10 months ago
@SenorSpode I was talking about the allies, and you proved my point. We went to war with the Germans and the Nazis, that was the point. You assumed I was talking about the Germans starting two wars.. No, I disagree with that, they shouldn't have.
Besides the point. unbelievable how a video about a landing aircraft has gone so off-topic.
lol.
claudp 10 months ago
man i flown in an airbus 320A and Boeing 767 and 747 and by far boeing's planes are much more quiet and comfortable in my opinion
oldsal30 10 months ago
@oldsal30 You're making the wrong comparison: both the 767 and 747 are widebodies. Large aircraft. The A320 is a much smaller narrowbody. Widebodies are always quieter than narrowbodies on the inside. If you want to compare, compare the A320 to the 737, the A330 to the 767 and the A340 or A380 to the 747. You'll then notice that in each case, the Airbus is actually the quietest one.

kristis917 10 months ago
the only thing that explains this is that it's an airbus dealing with crosswinds and not a boeing, and jets are not supposed to have joystics. And no, I am not american
Libanass 10 months ago
@Libanass You mean crosswinds may have contributed to this and not the fact that it was a woman at the controls like someone else suggested?? Who would have thunk it!!!!!!
diapermanful 10 months ago
@diapermanful here a little story..
The US knows how to make planes, germany is the best at making cars and everything else, and french can do smelly camembert :D
If it's a women or not, I can't tell, but at least I can tell that it's an airbus :))
Libanass 10 months ago
If the plane had crashed, how many would have survived? Perhaps all, but some may have had an out of body experience, like mine...youtube.com/watch?v=HF15T30xCPc

this music made me laugh haha, but i heard the pilot was a women (that explains it)
iAirsoft69 11 months ago
The burning question in my mind is why the pilot carried through with a bad approach for so long. Not that the adverse crosswind wasn't in play, trying to hit the runway after that far off center probably is a mistake that pilot won't soon repeat.

bozemanbob 11 months ago
@SAMCAMJAIK1 You didn't? The only Airbus I've seen that didn't have that exact style of winglet was a certain model A340, which had poor excuses for 747-400-like winglets. Sorry excuses, like the rest of the planes.
SenorSpode 10 months ago
@SenorSpode I'm sick of the ignorant comments of US fanatics like you. FYI, winglets were invented in Europe, as were many other aeronautical innovations, like jet engines, flaps and slats. The whole idea behind Airbus was to combine all aeronautical genius in Europe and push for innovation and refinement. I think Boeing finds Airbus a force to be reckoned with, or else why does the 777 have FBW like the A320, and the advanced airfoil (part of it supercritical) like every airbus since the A300?
VWaudiRULEs 10 months ago
@SAMCAMJAIK1 Those are airbus-320 winglets...

Why didnt the plane look that damaged when it pulled back up for another spin?
OmGitsapie 1 year ago
I am an Aerospace engineering student. Airbus doesn't suck. Airbus has some brilliant engineers from TU Graz and TU Delft who know their shit. In fact, the airbus wing's stability derivative is a few points higher than boeing's on average over their aircraft fleet.
rustlerboi1052 1 year ago
@rustlerboi1052 FINALY! an expert actualy pitches in! So a 737 would be even more tipsy on final?
I like the A320's design and allot of my friends are against airbus because its foreign. so stupid
Helicopterpilot16 1 year ago
@Helicopterpilot16
Airbus and Boeing actually help each other occasionally, too.
rustlerboi1052 1 year ago
@rustlerboi1052 yeah I understand what you'r saying, I'd have to say I do like airbus but I don't like how the controls are not phisicaly connected to the pilot.
