we cant judge people from the period days like we do in modern times, Hanna did not choose her husband she had no choice, in those days when you are married you are married divorce was hardly an option. if Hanna had made a willing decision to marry Fred even if it was for love or financial security i would judge her differently, Don't forget it is not so easy to control our feelings
i believe marriage should be respected, but when a woman or man is force into it what do you all think would happen. Ned was always there for Hanna, it would be extremely hard for her not to love him or be with him. It is not right that she is cheating on her husband but is very hard for her not too.
I dont really judge all these women that were forced into marry someone they didnt love, I guess this is what men get for trying to force women to marry them...
I calculate that men can't go wrong with six qualities: tall, dark, handsome, funny, romantic and intelligent. There is subjective preference of course, but this combination will win over the majority of women, am I right? Ned is this rare breed, we can't expect to find many of them about.
They shouldn't cheat. Hannah should divorce Fred, then she and Ned should go far away, so that no one knows their history, and they can make a clean fresh start the honest way.
@Alishhh4 lol, I was wrong and you are absolutely right! It's kind of hilarious to me, because I'm usually the one reminding others that you can't assign modern mores, and in this case not just mores but laws, to other time periods. You have to understand and analyze these stories within the social context of their time. I realize why I slipped up in this case though. The vast majority of mainstream media nowadays is working hard to normalize and even glorify cheating...
@Alishhh4 ...I think it's morally toxic thing to be pushing, and it serves to undermine our individual lives, the lives of our children and our society as a whole. My anger about mainstream media pushing the idea that cheating is wholesome and virtuous, infuriated me to the point that I forgot all about the social context of the film. Thanks for pointing out my oversight =)
I'm glad that Ned finally told Hannah how much he loved her (in a sober way) because he was being a jerk toward her and being disgustingly contradictory. And kudos to Hannah for taking up for herself. Take that, Daisy and Fred! Fred knew that she never loved him, but he was too selfish to admit and see it.
He's rather dreamy in Diamond Girl as well. This movie has the trifecta of good hair, period costumes, and suppressed longing/forbidden romance, so it pushes all my buttons.

I have always loved your videos. But tell me, where do they get these women with bucked teeth? It seems that the majority of them could stand here and eat corn across the street. Case in point, the woman that played in the latest edition of "Mansfield Park."
so glad to have found this movie missed it

@MissJessyeNorman It's hardly that simple, a wife couldn't divorce her husband, she had few legal rights.

At least now she'll experience some pleasure in bed. Maybe an orgasm or 2 if he's as good as he looks.
