We stayed on the garrison Aug 2011 in Lloyds tower by the campsite. The Garrison was a fantastic place quiet, remote, unspoiled and very historic. The walks were superb and the birdlife very friendly. The passed Garrison gate two three times daily into Hugh town. By the end of the week the climb up the hill made us a deal fitter than when we arrived. I can think of nothing better than to wander down the track to Hughtown on a bright morning or a stagger back up the track after a beery evening...
we go to scilly every year for 2 weeks at the begining of june and stay at a house on garrison hill right outside tregarthens hotel we have only recently got back from our 38 th trip !!.booked up for next year already, this is one of the most magical places on earth to us and we have to have our fix every year ,we have been at various times of the year including november i was the only tourist on the helicopter then along with some of the locals who were going on their holidays !
I have to go to Scilly regularly. It's very beautiful but it gives me the willies a bit as it is so obviously the tops of ancient flooded hills. There is a definite vibe there. One wonders how much longer it will last as I think the highest points are only 100 feet above sea level or so. I hope sea level rising won't force the islanders to leave too soon though, it must be quite nice and peaceful to live there but I still think it has a haunted atmosphere. :)
When we stay at Star Castle, I take the dog for a walk around the Garrison before breakfast. It is so beautiful in the early morning with the solitude, rabbits running around & the clear air. The chance to explore the interesting bits of the WW2 defences is irrestistible.
My comments (pretty cool) I was refering to the wind on the boat it looked cold to me. Nice views, I did not Realise it was so big out there must go there sometime RCK
