  • still relevant...hell even more

  • In Gorbachev We Trust was an astounding groundbreaking album......takes me back to good times. This was the Shamen at their best. Will Sinnott RIP

  • why did you cut out the beginning the sample with the speech about God's people coming out of the closet or is that a different track?

  • "But I don't love neither"

    Rock on Shamen,

    Rock on.

  • Amazing track. Their later stuff leaves me cold but this is a classic.

  • classic from the Shamen...

  • Here we are 22 years after this song was recorded and religious extremism in the world is worse than ever causing poverty, violence and misery for millions of people. One of the key solutions is education............lets get rid of faith schools as they just seem to indoctrinate rather than educate. They also give religion respect that it does'nt deserve.

  • The Shamen's finest...........

  • what a band with wullie in it in`it

  • I have the 12 inch of this, which begins with a classic rant from a preacher who insists it is time for 'God's people' to come out of the closet.

The sad thing of course is that the christian right is just as influential today, plus we now have the Islamic right to deal with as well.

    Depressing.

  • Jesus Loves AmeriKKKa, but I don't love neither ;)

  • You missed the first bit out

  • Sounds like the lead singer of Jesus Jones

  • reminds me of pop will eat itself

  • So infiltrate, indoctrinate Inflict their lunacy Intolerance and ignorance Upon humanity May the hand of God, please cut me down Should I sing I'm true to thee For couragenous lies and dollar signs Are just fascist fallacies They offer to you salvation by the nation Keep that money coming forth Make heaven your destination
  • @zeotrope they offer to you salvation by donation

  • By radio wave, and satellite

    And computer print-out page

There's a brand new breed of pharacee

    For the electronic age

From the land so free, home of the brave

    So white they're squeaky clean

    So prosperous and odious

    With malignant piety

Yeah these are the men who break the right in righteous

Such hypocrisy, stupidity is truly out of sight, yes

  • Says what it means, and means what it says. Totally relevant today as it was 20 years ago. The best!

  • Any chance of finding this video in better quality?

I have also a question: what does he say "a new brand of pharacy". Which is the meaning of the word? Is that an invented word. It reminds me of "phariseism", but sounds like "pharmacy". I knew the Shamen sometimes use word puns, but I can't translate it.

  • @tht707 It's "There's a brand new breed of Pharisee for the electronic age."

  • @eyevocal: ooh, thank you very much!

In fact, it was the most simple word choice, but I thought I rescued the lyrics from an old semi-official Shamen site (now offline) and I'm pretty sure they transcribed it as "pharacy", but of course "pharisee" is the concept they were generically trying to address (I say "generically" because pharisee has taken a negative only connotation, while Jesus addressed the specific behavior, not the movement, which was one of the 4 main movements of judaism then).

  • I dont know why, but for me the song is the direct link to the movie by Kubrick "Dr Strangelove". Acctually, just saying truth. Very honest, very brave. Brilliant!

  • Went to see them in 88. They had a subversive underground postpunk/trippy feel to the show which was great. Then saw them again in about 1991 and it was pretty dull. It all went a bit dodgy with Mr C with his sad rapping. Never mind. What ever happened to LSD?

  • Spot on.Saw them many times before Will Sin died (after hyperreal had started to break them to the masses)

Mr C was a minor player until then & ruined them for me.

  • thx for share!!! i love this song

  • Sounds like Jesus Jones on the album "Perverse".

  • cool!

  • undisputably the shamens best album, in gorbachev we trust, i have all the albums

  • I'd dispute that as En-Tact is their best album to date.

  • C'mon USA! Do the right thing! Copenhagen is the last chance to turn your legacy around! (Will exclamation marks make the point?)

  • where is the "christopher mayhew say's" song . the one about the MP taking a drug "like acid" think it was called melacine or something, the shamen were a four piece band from scotland. brought out at least 2 albums b4 this. the techno era was good , but check out their really early stuff, better.

  • Yeah the early stuff is the real shit, especially the LP that I have that is mostly obscure psych covers (Strange Days Dream). Came here looking for Raspberry Infundibulum and this was all I could find.

  • awesome - to have the early Shamen represented on here - i wish someone would post "negation state"

  • negation state is a true classic... ;)

  • @EYEmusique

Posted now: Check this guy's channel (seem to have blocked links now... oh how long will that last I ask?) gordybhoy

  • Basically telling us that the American dream sucks big time !

  • The dream doesn't. Waking up to reality does.

  • fooking great.

  • Oh my god i had forgotten this tune !! fantastic!!

  • I don't love neither means I do love both... I think... ahem

  • You have to read "I don't love neither" as a litotes & a litotes is a rhetorical device that uses double negation to emphasise a statement. If you read all the lyrics, I think the statement is pretty clear.

  • Colloquially however in the UK it means you don't love either.

  • Computer printout page!

  • jesus loves america

    BUT I DONT LOVE NEITHER

  • Here, here :)

  • classic

  • Jesus Jones took this singing style and made fortune. Both of these bands are forgotten now, but we´ll never know what´s cooking next!

  • what would have happened if william had not passed... this energy would have continued...

  • before the bad drugs and heads

    when you where young

as for the rest of you lighten up or get off

  • this is awesome! I like the Shamen even more now!

  • Brilliant. I think I first saw this video on DEF2 (BBC's 1990's effort to be cult and youthful).

Jesus loves America, but I don't love neither... Considering the strong comments posted about this video can I point out that the guy doesn't actually mention 'hating' either of them? He might not LOVE Jesus or America, but might not mind if they both popped over for a coffee some time. Just a thought...

  • @Labruskie

Fuck off moron. If you're not going to pay attention you'll sit at the back of the class.

  • @Pooknottin I am sitting at the back of the class... Whats happening up front? Did I miss something?

Anyway, thanks Pooknttin... I completely forgot about this vid... Nice, isn't it...?

  • jesus loves america

    BUT I DONT LOVE NEITHER

  • This sounds very much like Jesus Jones

  • God theirs some pretentious drivel comments on here

Shraidha you need to get a grip!

  • patrick wolf have desperatelly plundered this classic in track "ambulance and emergency". am i the only one who realised this?

  • At least people would stand up against that bullshit and fight it instead of sitting back and enjoying the "blessings of our western world".

  • Basically for everything I have today. Not everyone in the "western world" is born with the silver spoon in his mouth. And two things I learned, religion and economy bullshit you into buying their blessings. Both systems exist for the sole reason to keep you from taking your own life into your own hands.

It's interesting that you got me all figured out without knowing jack about me, btw.

  • Shraidha, I apologise for 0x777, we all know how you struggle every day to get off your sofa.

  • Please go die in Iraq if you're so concerned about the Islamic menace.

  • Proclaimers on acid?

  • I bought this on 12 inch almost as soon it got released , years before move any mountain , both excellent

  • Excellent

  • What an amazing song. Strange how the radio never play this one.

  • well, if it's a choice between this and "E's ARE GOOD, E's ARE GOOD!!!" what do you think most of your moron-class djs are gonna go for?

  • Oh my god i remember this tune not heard this in years wiiiiiiiiiiiiiicked

  • This sounds kinda ebm-ish.

  • Does anyone out there have the Other Side of Midnight performance of You , Me and Everything? Great tune, and great performance - very underrated band.

  • Also by the Shamen - Splash 2 (the US shooting down Libyan fighters over the Gulf of Sidra) and Strange Day's Dream (the sinking of the General Belgrano). Great music!

  • Great great song

  • u can pick it up on ebay on 12" for bout 4quid,and in mint condition.1 well worth holding on 2

  • ohhh my, this is an astounding message for 1989. If This is the shamen raw id like to see more of their old songs.

  • Nothing like being educated on geopolitics by greebo psychedelic warlords who went on to do Ebaneezer Goode....nice tune when it gets to the chorus though.

  • Cool - good to see some of their raw pre-top 40 stuff. Wish I could find one for "negation state"

  • This piece is absolutely fantastic. We're singing these very sentiments across the planet. Nationalism & religious fundamentalism are the greatest scourges of mankind.

  • @shiki5876: no, Glee and The Hills are the greatest scourges of humankind.

  • by jesus' assbarf spewing mouth, the best damn youtube video of all time

  • truer now than ever...

  • Top tune!

Back when they were still playing guitars.

Jesus loves Amerikkka but I don't love neither!

  • The version I have on record of this, starts with a great sample from one of the US religious loonies, about "God's people coming out of the closet to reclaim America."

A shame we didn't have someone like the Shamen to warn up of what was developing, at exactly the same time, in Muslim communities.....

  • good soing, 87 i think

  • 1989

  • FANTASTIC song!!!

  • never heard this one b4. nice, reminds me of early "my life with the thrill kill kult" guess they were produced around the same time

  • true then true now

  • Wicked Track, I remember this pre rave era.

  • this is the first video i directed - check into jimnubz on tube for a few others

  • this is probably the best thing I have found through you tube, thanks so much.

  • love it best shamen track from my fav time of music

  • this takes me WAY back. first shamen vid i ever saw too. pity they didn't develop a more industrial sound, rather than that eezrgood/l.s.i. nonsense

  • I love this track!

  • Great song, great message.

  • In Gorbekhov we trust.

  • never realised any gorbachev stuff was on video

  • This was the track which got me into the Shamen!

    Thanks for uploading!

  • different guitar from the album version - god i'm sad

  • Finally this video!

Thanks a lot, but its quality is re

  • haha this is terrible, where on earth did u get a copy of this video?

  • Was on here ages ago but then came off. Loved this period when they were just getting into acid house

  • wow at last someone else has heard of this song!!! Thanks for the post mate! Off the NME vid?

  • but it's how the rest of the world think you fucker

  • you think we care lolololol. thats cute. haha. u suck.

  • You are ehmmm a teenager?

    With zits and everything?

    Or are you ehm, r.e.t.a.r.d.e.d?

  • Yes, get sucking suck boy

  • The Shamen may be many things but Muslim isn't one of them. As an American living in Britain, I have to say that I agree with The Shamen as well as the rest of the world. If you have a problem with people disagreeing with the actions of the US both past and present then perhaps Amerikkka should stop slinging its guns and crusading ideology around the world stage.

  • hahahaha your such a hippy leftist that it makes me laugh. people like me will always run things while people like you protest and cry about everything.

  • People like you might end up like Nixon - tarnished by history and a figure of ridicule.

  • You couldn't run a fucking bath

  • that was a terrible retort. btw i see that you like big hair bands.....cool.
