I played through it from start to finish on solo normal last night with some skulls active to try to get the meta-game achievements and I still got the cutscene after the credits on normal. It might be because I have previously beaten it on legendary co-op, but I don't know.

I'll bet that, in order to not make another sequel and kill the game series, Bungie will just have the Chief land on Reach to save the day or somehow get his self from the past off to safety or something of the sort... or they left the ending open to whatever Microsoft wanted to make of it, i.e. another novel, a game, or a movie... another possibility... this could lead up to the non-existent Halo movie...

If you think about it, the Ark was in some sort of slipspace area when they got caught in it at the end of H3, and at the end of the book the Doctor and her team were stuck on the inside of a planet within slipspace too.

well the arbiter went back to his races home planet and idk about it being onyx cuz remember the arc was out of the galaxy and master chief didnt make it through the portal so he is out of the galaxy and in the middle of no where chances him hitting onyx which is in the galaxy is slim but if it is that would be pretty awesome but the ending does scream a sequel

At the end the planet IS Onyx.*SPOILERS*in the ghosts of onyx, you learn that Spartan 3's were being trained there and it was attacked by the covenant . What Onyx actually was was a forerunner machine that was built to protect the reclaimers(humans, who are decsendents of forerunners). there are still spartans that are shielded in the core of the planet waiting for 117 to save them. At the end a Spartan Kyle(?) sacrificed his life and blew up the covenant, but the planet wasnt destroyed.
