@bigbadbob293 Wow, REALLY ??? My 14 year old son could beat me but he's 5'10" and 145 lbs. He could pick you up and throw you across the room. I'm pretty sure you'd be stuck because you can't pick your bike up out of the mud. There's miles and miles out there with nobody to help you. I'm always stopping to pick up a bike off some little punk's leg who's been lying on the ground for 30 minutes.
@gmanpeterson381 You're right. We all have our grumpy days. I over reacted. I just got clearance to race again after having my acl replaced and miss riding dearly. Can't wait to get back out there. It's a bitch getting old.
Ok let's get this straight. Naturefamily or whatever your name is, you did good. I'm just saying that since I could pass up most these people on a trail bike then its like a B or C class
@naturefamily Ran a great race from what i can see. i don't know why but that one Yamaha rider that always seemed to be running right in front of max had terrible technique! i don't see why he was in front of Max. Max didn't seem to slip other than that one time. the Yamaha dude had his legs flying all around his bike. if it had been a far more technical track Max would have smoked him. he was just somehow lucky that those slips didn't put him on the ground. Great video
@rockerman401 Sure, if you're comfortable riding it. You'll be working the clutch a lot through the technical stuff but should be fine. The small bore powerband is best on the track and kind of tough to work with in the tight stuff but you can do it if you are good with the clutch.
Ok thank you for the tips, one of my friends rides and u am sure he will come with me! And sorry about your acl, btw what kind of bike do yow have and is it a 2 stroke, it's a kawasaki right?
@rockerman401 I've ridden both but my favorite is the kdx200 i have now. I like the 2 strokes because they seem a little more durable when things get tough and they're cheaper and easier to rebuild and i maintain 4 of them: mine and the 3 kids. 4 strokes make awesome useable power but feel a little heavier which dosen't bother me at all but it's just too expensive to fix them if things go bad. When you're riding 3 hours at a time through rocks and mud thing go bad eventually.
This is something I am very interested in, am 15 years old and have a 1998 cr80 expert. That needs some work but will be fixed in a couple weeks, do you have any tips on where to start or some pointers to be ready for!!!! Btw niiice video I like it alot post more please
Then read through the comments on this page for tips on prepping and racing.
If you can find someone who has done it to go with you the first time it would be good otherwise go watch one before riding one and make a friend while you're there so you can ask questions.
Can yu explain like the concept of a hare scramble? I just got a cr125 and i only rode my freinds klx125 a couple times on his lil track and i wanted to try something like this because there isnt much trail where i live
@IIWARF4REII A hare scramble is an off road race that is time based. Around here they are run on a track that is around 10 miles long and you do laps. after 2 hours the winner crosses thd finish line on whatever lap he is on and the checkered flag is thrown it can be much longer than 2 hours before you finish depending on where you are on the course. It is a freat opportunity to do a lot of great riding in some beutiful challenging place.
im 14 years old and i ride a yz 125 ... my brother who is in A class is pushing me to race this year. do you think you could give me any tips for this year.
@MrHellow12 If you start out in the woods on a yz125 it is good experience and may be very frustrating. Gear down slightly from stock. Make freinds (or enemies) with the clutch, get used to sliding it frequently. Get some good soft enduro tires. PACE YOURSLF. You can't ride a 125 for 2+ hours in the woods like you're burning a practice lap on the track. Pedal a bicycle for an hour at a time whenever you can to stay in riding shape. Most important: Ask your brother.
@MrHellow12 It sounds like your brother is a good resource. When you go to a different bike like a exc200 or a wr250 it will seem very easy because you learned on a 125.
why do you keep backing off on the straights an d the sweepers, and the squids are jsut waiting to be passed...zzzzz...lol....zzzz....wake me up when you get some balls.......lol at 1:30 are you waiting to get back in line???or you gonna pass them all...zzz
@fuzzypige222 I race in a class filled with 18 - 25 year olds on 125's and 200's. I'm a 44 year old guy at 6'1" and 200 lbs. My old kdx won't keep up with the 125 mx bikes in the open. Believe it or not i placed 2nd in my class that day due to my riding in the woods and mud. I placed 4th in year end standings. You have to pace yourself for the 2+ hours and work your strenghth. I have a feeling you're another one who dosen't actually race. You're welcome to correct me on that.
@naturefamily Thank You for the inspiration. I'm 37 and I ,have been wanting to enter some hairscrambles on My old KX 250. I ride My bycycle alot in the summer to stay in shape. Recently in Our area a gravel pit opened to the public as an off road park. There are alot of wooded trails to practice on. Thanks for the good footage and, keep on riding.
@fuzzypige222 same here old guy, still have the YZ490, havent ridden for a couple of years....boxes of trophies etc etc...raced mostly in fla, ga, and ala, won the whole thingie one year for B class....loved the 200 and 220 but i wouldnt ride one..boring..i keep dreaming of a comeback !!!...and yeah you ride nice but not a racer.....zzzzz
why do you keep backing off on the straights an d the sweepers, and the squids are jsut waiting to be passed...zzzzz...lol....zzzz....wake me up when you get some balls.......
@MrBmxLoveerr I was ripping through the woods at about 30mph on a yz125 just riding along a creek and I just clipped a 1" tree branch with my left hand and the bone in the middle of my hand broke and stuck up about an inch in the middle of my hand. I learned my lesson and have bark busters on everything. I had to ride with a cast on my hand for 3 weeks.
I don't becaue my kdx has a 2.9 gallon tank and I don't ride as hard as some. Some of the guys need gas during the race. I can go 50 miles in the woods on a tank. Rule is when my bike is out of gas so am I.
Im 15 and own an rm250 what class would I run in? Im just looking to start hare scrambles. Also is it legal to run a 265 big bore kit? I will be riding in Pennsylvania and ohio and mabey a bit of west virginia thanks!
that tree attack at 3:58 looked awfully familiar. I was leading for about a mile in a race my first season and did the same thing and like you, had 6 or 7 guys pass me. You just don't realize how many are behind you till you're on the ground!
Yes, you should go try one if you have the time and money. That bike will get you through fine although you'll be tired out and probably not very fast but that's ok, It's still great fun and in our series the small bikes only go 45 minutes or an hour.
It's a kdx200 and it's got quite a different temprament than your typical small bore mx bike. It likes to short shift. You have to remember this race is 3 hrs sometimes and you have to watch how you ride or you and your bike run out of gas.
Wow that looks like fun can't wait til I get enough confidence to race, watching vids like this get me pumped for it. I've got a kdx220 would I be in the same class as you're in here with your 200?
man oh man this made me feel anxious haha... it looks ALOT like the sydney nebraska enduro with the RMEC. i love these helmet cam videos, they make me feel like im riding. Great video, great riding.
Nice move on the outside @ 2:02 to deal with that guy annoying you since 1:29
I raced on an IT 175 back in the early 80's (District 17)and remember when I signed up and they asked me if I cut down my handlebars yet. CUT DOWN my Handlebars???!?? 3:57 says it all. :D
i have a KDX 220 and it is one of the best bikes to ride in the woods. not to mention thier pretty much bullet proof. hairscrables are fun but can get really sloppy you should try an enduro soemtime
My first time in the woods i rode on a track like this & it was fun but it suckd to cuz i wreckd 6x mostly from trees that seemd to popd up outa nowhere & once in the sand section & its not that i wasnt good enough it was that i was ridin my Husqvarna 125 2 stroke that i couldn't touch the ground on & weighs about 100 lbs more than me & i was bein brave & goin on the expert parts of the track lol..
Hi, Yes in our series (and most) a 13 yr old is allowed to run on a 125. My son started on a yz125 stock bike and I also rode the same bike in many races. It handles great but the power is a little funny in the woods. If you learn on a 125 you will become a very good rider however it may be frustrating at first. Make friends with the clutch. hi im thinkin of racing harescrambles im in pensylvania and im 13 and am i aloud to run in the 125 2 stroke c class this will be my first race before i race im planning on doing the suspension for me full pipe filter reeds and skids and i think it said i needed a 19 inch rim or something any recommendations or tips ect? thnx
lol idk once I start racing we'll see the bikes about set up. Just needs the jetting tweaked a bit and the suspension softened. For now Ill just use the clickers on the forks and see if it helps enough Any recomendations on where I should race first? High speeds is nothing to me since i ride the kx500 and woods and the track are where ive grown up :)
It's a 200. have it running pretty good and it winds up nice. The suspension is lacking coming off a yz125 but the power is easier to use in the woods.
We are lucky enough to live on the edge of some town land and we maintain the trails there. We don't ride there very much so as not to piss off the neighbors. You should join a local club. There's a couple clubs where we live that you can join and ride their land. We joined an mx club and practice at thier track. They have some woods trails also. See "Practicing on the mini track". Good luck. It's getting harder to find a place to ride.
where do you guys ride? i have a 90cc dirt bike and i love it. but the trails in my backyard go on other peoples property, so they put down spikes. I WANT TO RIDE!!!
Watch out for that ............TREE! I hate it when that happens. Since when do you start on the bike, I thought the starts were grandprix style. Is this Arcadia,FL FTR? One more question how much was that Helmet cam setup?
It's arcadia in New York, Near Newark up by Lake ontario. There's always a tree in the way. Our hare scrambles are alway on the bike with motors off. We did a GP race last week where we had to run 10 yard to the bike at the flag. The recorder is a mini HD and cost $169 at Target. the helmet cam itself is a sony 520 and it cost about $150 online. Check out the jasper video. I recorder the whole race in the rain and had to clean mud off the cam several times. It's a great setup.
Nice riding! Go KDX!! What yr do you have? I just picked up a used 06 200, but haven't ridden the trails yet with it. Hare scrambles look like a blast. I am a old fart like you 41 :} No more MX for me!
Thanks, They're a lot of fun and there's always a battle for you whatever your level. My bike is an '03 and it's a really tough bike. It's not the fastest or lightest bike but it gets the job done. I'll tell you some stuff to do to it if you email me to get it just right.
This kid is pretty good why is everybody hating we all live to ride....not live to criticize keep on riding

lol idk once I start racing we'll see the bikes about set up. Just needs the jetting tweaked a bit and the suspension softened. For now Ill just use the clickers on the forks and see if it helps enough Any recomendations on where I should race first? High speeds is nothing to me since i ride the kx500 and woods and the track are where ive grown up :)

KDX 200 or 220? I had one for a year I loved it, really broad power band for a 2-stroker, the clutch would slip like hell after it got hot though.

It's a 200. have it running pretty good and it winds up nice.

Watch out for that ............TREE! I hate it when that happens. Since when do you start on the bike, I thought the starts were grandprix style. Is this Arcadia,FL FTR? One more question how much was that Helmet cam setup?
jdemick 3 years ago
