I really need to start going to your flea market.... I don't find anything really interesting out here. I have to import pretty much all of the interesting stuff, save for my FM16V23 Vortalex and 1953 Fasco box fan that I got local.
Those were some great finds at the flea market! We have an Airline portable disc recorder at our shop and had the cutting cartridge rebuilt...it does work although not perfectly. It has two tone arms, one for recording and one for playback. That does look like a retrofited tone arm/cartridge on there.
That's a real nice 45 player....Haven't seen any Sanyo dictation machines before either.
Thanks for the information. I was wondering about that arm, it is plastic, and very light. There is an extra hole by the arm also. Maybe Ill find a complete one some day, but I could not pass this by, never seen one before. It maybe gutted too, there is stuff rolling around on the inside, hope not. Different screws and wrong type too.
I like that little RCA record player it should clean up nicely. The Sanyo I think is unusual and it is heavy too. I am wondering about how rare the Zenith is. Don't think I ever seen one of those either. It is not in awful condition, but I could not pass that by. Thanks.
The Silvertone is very intriguing. I don't see a cutting arm, though. Does the cartridge appear to double as a cutting head in some way? I never saw anything like that before. That RCA has got to be one of the first players designed for 45 RPM records.... Very, very cool! :) JC
Not sure, but it only has one arm. If the arm is doing both that must mean that the Slivertone blank records must be pre-grooved, that would be the only way I can see it working. Thanks.
WHAT? No Yak hair! Looks like some great finds there. All I ever see at flea markets is junk. I think my sister had a 45rpm player like the one you found. She used to dance to it after school.
This market is fun to walk around. I had never seen a wooden canteen covered in Kak hair before, lol. It is get harder to find things, but you just never know, that's part of what makes it so interest, the hunt. Thanks.
This past weekend I went to a couple flea markets. Strangest thing...not one electronic item to be had. Plenty of used dishes though.
A few months ago I repaired a friend's Spice Rack radio. Its packaged circuit (PC) had been removed and substtuted with individual parts, but they weren't connected right. I decided to just remove all that junk and build a new PC. Afterward, it played great. Had terrific sound.
I'm looking forward to seeing that Silvertone work.
Lol, it is amazing some of the stuff you see at a flea market. I'm still trying to figure out what a cheese straightener is. Most of the time I don't see anything but it is still always interest to walk around the market. Thanks.
A friend of mine had a spice rack radio in his car the other day. I had never seen anything like that.
It's too bad that record cutters didn't catch on as well as tape recorders. I often think that a jukebox style 45 player would have been a neat idea for home stereo consoles. Have numbers for instant access and a continuous play mode.
I almost bought a spice rack radio, but did not because the doors were missing. I am looking forward to working on that Silvertone, should be interesting. Thanks.
Seeburg did make a jukebox style home player both in a 45 RPM unit in the 50's and a 33 RPM 12" unit in the late 60's. The 45 player had individual switches under each record in the slot for left side, right side or both...the LP player was programmed with a telephone dial. Both used similar mechanisms to the coin operated Seeburg jukeboxes.
We worked on one of the 45 players at our shop...that was before we had the cameras and youtube so we did not record it.
If you search google for seeburg home stereo console the first link has lots of information about both types of units. It looks like there was also a 78 RPM unit made.
Awesome recorder!! once you fix that thing up, you should make a video demonstrating recording something! it would be cool to try 33 45 and 78 and compare the sound quality, like what cassettemaster does.
I've also seen a video of someone making their own blank records. i forget what material they used but it worked quite well. Maybe you can do that!
Wow, those r reelly nice scores! That Zenith is sweet and I'm hoping to find an RCA 6-EY-3A 45 player like yours someday locally too. That Silvertone is a must have too!
Wow, I just Googled "Silvertone record player cutter radio" and found pictures of a Sivlertone Recording Discs. Maybe they will know something about it, and maybe Vinylrecordsneverdie may know something about this too. It would be neat to get it working 100%. I just could not believe it when I found it.
Sometime tells me the tonearm is not original. I notice a phono input too. Looks like the original arm was only a cutting and an external phono was needed to playback. However, it was probably changed out so records can be played on this unit and the phono input was probably changed to a tape out to record music onto a mono tape recorder. The tonearm looks like itz plastic and cartridge doesn't look like a cutting head.
The tonearm is plastic so that would be way to light to cut anything, doubt Ill ever find the original, but you never know. Thanks for the information now Im not wondering about it now. Ill get working what I can, if it is not gutted on the inside. When I first saw the ceramic I did want to ask you how could that work?
Also, I noticed is that there's a mounting hole next to the armrest. Thatz probably for the original ones. With phono recorder, there's 2 arm rather than one.
That extra hole is interesting. I just looked at it again and there does not seem to have any scratches. I cant find my magnifying glasses!!! Nuts!! Maybe I should do a video of the insides. There stuff rolling around in there, so it could be gutted. Thanks!!
Great find on the two record player's the one that records is rare !!!.....Never seen or heard of one in my lifetime....Thank you for sharing....Tec

This was one with just the run of the mill open shelves. I have a plain ole spice rack nearly identical in the kitchen.

Yep this should be a very interest project. I'll have to research how to make blank records. But most of all it will be fun working on it. Thanks.

Did Sanyo once make equipment for Dictaphone?

Don't know, but it sure does look like it could be a Dictaphone. That is what I thought it was at first. This is the first Sanyo I have seen. Thanks.
