Man level 15 for both before gong after the mirror makes it so easy to deal with all foes in the tower. Also Later on You should think about the GBC version of this game. Much better version of it.

The real reason it's an uphill battle to keep the Princess alive is her low HP, weak armor, and low innate Defense.
