God save the KinKs...and Soap Opera like quite a few other Ray Davies kinks projects should have been on TV and or on the Broadway stage - The KinKs were the Last of the Steam Powered Rock and Roll bands and were Not Like Everybody Else. - Ray Davies is still the greatest song writer that ever lived!
Wow.....The Kinks better not of been behind the licensing of this song to Converse....almost as worst as when Bob Seger sold his soul to Chevy or Ford or whatever it was.
I love Soap Opera, but I hate that this will be the Target song now. Soap Opera is my favorite Kinks Cd (minus Holiday Romance which is way out of place on that cd) followed by Misfits, and Schoolboys.
The Kinks are probably one of the most criminally underrated bands ever. It's kinda of a shame they have to resort to selling music to commercials to get noticed but I can't blame them. Arthur, Village Green & Lola are easily in my top 15 favorite albums of all time.
THe kINKS? OMG! I love the kinks but never knew they sang this song. And whenever this commercial came on I would always sing it. who knew it was the kinks. :)
The Kinks are awesome, one of the GREATEST Bands ever, right up there with the Who and the Beatles. NO one beats Ray Davies in songwriting, he has written some of the best songs in Rock, it is a shame that these songs are not well known, besides KINKS Fans!
I have loved the Kinks since I was 14 and loved them even more after hearing all of their amazing work that was SO underappreciated for too long. This is not the first commercial Kinks' songs have been in (HP/IBM/Cingular/Gap) in recent years but the chance of a reunion is almost nill; they don't get along and Dave had a stroke which I understand he's still recovering from. I'd love to see a Kinks reunion, but I'm not betting on it - they haven't played together since early 90s - indierockcafe
Wouldn't it be awesome if they reunited? The Kinks are the only band (British,60s) whose original members are all still alive. Ray and Co. better decide quick if they reunite, one of 'em might "vapor lock" soon.
YES! GOD SAVE THE KINKS! AND TARGET! lol. But seriously, if the Kinks keep getting all this play, how can they NOT do a reunion? And then I'll be able to die happy...
"Everybody's a Star" is a perfect choice for the product. Not only because of the logo, but because they're marketing the shoes as hip vintage with that old homemade movie look. Sometimes commercialism is not a bad word! Especially, as someone said, when it draws attention to a much neglected genius and a rare gem of a song. :-)
Gratias! Ray Davies is supposed to be on Letterman later this month - maybe as early as the 17th. They're bound to ask Davies about the "Juno" soundtrack as well.
Yeah Soap Oper is often ignored (like most of their albums) what a shame. Those 70's Kinks albums are some of the best music ever recorded in Rock! Prservation, Soap Opera, Schoolboys in..., M. Hillbillies, the list goes on and on.

Glad to find this commercial. I thought it sounded like David Bowie at first, but I can see the Kinks singing this one.

look at 00:27 its a pentagram
merrimanpatrick 3 years ago
No, it's not. A pentagram would not be shaded in and would be touching the edges of the circle.

GREAT SONG!! Kudos to Konverse for pulling that one out of the vaults. The more exposure the Kinks get, the better.
enisthep 4 years ago 3
Absolutely!
This song was written in the '70s?
(can't remember)
kinksfan1956 4 years ago
1974/75. it was on Soap Opera, an album that got ignored when it was released but might get new life after this new exposure.
