That was present day trunks who Tapion met and gave the sword to-future trunks never met him, nor did future trunks ever get to fight as a kid alongside Goku, Vegeta or Goten as he did in the movie (Goten didn't even exist in his time, and Goku/Vegeta died when he was a baby). The movie is meant to be a fun illustration of an idea, not to be taken as a serious part of the story line.

Cell only got to the original timeline because Cell killed Trunks to get his time machine, but that time Trunks beat him. If you haven't realized it, doing 1 thing completely different that you would of done in the past changes the future completely. He also had training with Vegeta at a young age so that helped him because SS at 8

While Gohan has a lot of raw strength, he didn't have the training to harness it and make it stronger. Remember Goku had Gohan stay SS and they pretty much trained together for a year straight(though it was only a day in the HTC).

@ehmonja Well Gohan was originally slated to become the strongest of the fighters with his Mystic/Ultimate Form and was going to defeat Majin Buu. The idea was that he would become his father Goku's successor as defender of the Earth, but then Goku fans wanted him to return as the protagonist.

I wish they hadn't have done that, all that Z Sword/Mystic stuff was building Gohan up as the main hero. As it is Gohan's character was wasted. He could have been as cool as this future Gohan.

The androids originally showed up while Trunks was still a baby, Goku had already died from his heart virus, and Vegeta and all the other Z fighters except Gohan were killed by them.
