  • Great basic salmon cakes, Betty! My mom makes essentially the same thing, but depending on who is going to be eating them, we sometimes add chopped green olives, pickles, celery, onion, capers, parsley, etc. I highly recommend olives. :]

  • Since i have bread crumbs and judging by the volume in the zip lock i would estimate approx 1/2 cup of crackers or maybe a little less ? I have saltine's but I'd rather skip a step and use bread crumbs for mine. ill be cautious and mix it in slowly until it looks about the same consistency as your product.

  • @mixwell1983 Using breadcrumbs should come out great! Thanks for commenting!

  • Hope I'm not sounding rude and I don't know your age but is it wrong that at 28 yr old I find you highly attractive ? Almost every recipe I've looked up leads to your page and most recipes are so simple which I love. I mean the utmost respect on your beauty and your cooking so if your hubby gets a little jealous he can take it as a compliment. About ready go give these salmon patties a go for the first time. Nothing wrong with learning to cook while watching a beautiful women teach huh ?

  • Betty, could I use bread crumbs?

  • @tigersfan3411 Yes, bread crumbs would be delicious!

  • Betty, how many eggs did you use?

  • @pisceslady71 I used 2 eggs. The complete recipe is always with the video. Just click "show more."

  • I luv salmon patties...yummm.

With the salmon cakes u made did u leave in the bones that r n the middle or was that a sort of boneless salmon? I noticed u left the dark skin peel n it, I always take that out just cuz I don't like the look of it lol It disgusts me but I luv salmon. It's always time consuming 4 me tho cuz I try removing most of that bone in the middle of the salmon.

Those look delcious! Now I am wanting salmon patties. I luv them with mustard w/homemade mac & chz & yam patties

  • @1970sarteaga I leave the bone in and the skin on. (I agree that the skin does look unappetizing, but it all gets mixed up and is never noticeable.

  • Good recipe, used for 3 generations.. I put the finished patties on hamburger buns and top with tartar sauce made from Miracle Whip and sweet relish.

  • @trucker63601 Hey that sounds good. I definally have to try that. Even though I have a lot of toast, so I will use it instead of humburger buns. Hey I think it would also be good with jelopenos on top too. : )

  • mmmmmm they look very nice Betty i will be doin this recipe soon thank you for sharing the video

  • This is the exact way that my dad makes his salmon:) I think I'm making salmon pattie's today because that food sure did bring back good memorie's:) God Bless.

  • i tried this today betty, and it was really good! i used tuna instead though because that was what i had on hand and added some dried parsley just because i happen to have it lol. thanks for the recipe!

  • I like the way you speak, its gentle, and it reminds me of a preschool teacher... it makes me tired and relaxed. lol.

  • @carmellawilliams

Some people like baked sweet potatoes with theirs.

  • Is that can of salmon already cooked salmon??

I would really like to make this but all I have is fresh salmon... do you recommend I cook it first and then make these or can I shred it and make them with the salmon raw??

  • @bunzie13 The canned salmon is cooked. If you plan to use fresh salmon, just put it in a greased skillet and cook it until it flakes, and continue with the recipe!

    --Betty :)

  • cook yr fresh salmon first; yes

  • @den84ca Thanks for fielding this question. I appreciate it!

    --Betty :)

  • @bunzie13 Or place the raw salmon into a processor with 1-2 eggs and add spices, onion ect. Process it down to light spread, just a few second in the processor. Then place it in another bowl and add your cracker, crumbs, zest, ect from there cook.

  • @bunzie13 CANNED SALMON EVEN TUNA FISH FROM A CAN IS USABLE

  • Wonderful idea recipe, I happen to have all the ingredients and just didn't know any other way to use the salmon, your idea is just great. I will however try it with egg substitute to cut the cholesterol from eggs, and probably use some type of low sodium whole grain crackers to make it a healthier recipe because I believe I tend to take in too much sodium from what I eat, I am it will turn our terrific. Many thanks so much again for your recipes, Betty.

  • @Gobliwog I hope your salmon cakes came out great! Thanks for your lovely comment!

  • @bettyskitchen Betty, thank you for the great recipe. I tell you what, this recipe is awesome. I did a little modification which I like Tuna better then Salmon. Please keep it coming. : )

  • When I'm using the salmon cakes as part of a very healthy meal, I usually serve them with potato cakes, mixed greens, and cornbread. But, that's just a matter of taste!

    --Betty :)

  • can you use egg whites instead of the eggs?

  • Sure, that would work just fine!

    --Betty :)

  • Betty, what about all the little bones in the salmon?

  • I just leave them in; they are very soft and mix in with the rest of the mixture and add some calcium! Thanks for your question!

    --Betty :)
