Remove the mag first. Then pull charging handle for safety check. That way you wont chamber a new bullet if mag had ammo. Another thing is that every part should be put in order on the table that way when you reassemble you put them back in reverse order. Not just throwing the pieces all over the place. We studied Kalashnikov at an ordinary Soviet high scool and we had to strip it down in less than 10 seconds. Assembly lasted longer - some 14-16 seconds. Some of us did it "in blind" - with closed eyes. My own best time was 9/17.

If u use a little lapping compound on gas tube lock down it should free up just enough to be a tool free take down. I had the same tight tolerance it's common in the wasr 10 lapping helped mine out. Just a suggestion

My AK is a Saiga made in Russia by Izhmash and has a lock for the bolt.. There is a button under the gun next to the trigger guard that you can press upward while holding the bolt back that will lock the bolt.. I believe this is common is all AKs
